Hey guys a quick statement about the "update". My sales guys told me that any update to the Pre-1 is a physical update to the volume knob. There is no firmware update currently. I guess the physical replacement of the volume knob could be thought of as "firm" ware. lol The volume knob on all my Emo components feel pretty firm to me.

Anyone get their shipping notice about their FOB (fresh off boat) Pre 1? Of course I haven't called or anything! I did get my C-12 already.

I got one right after emofest, so far I like it a lot. I'm really digging the tone controls and how your able to toggle them on and off with the remote. The mini-x works really well with it in how you can turn the dial down so you have more room to play with on the pre-1 dial. It's the same as the usp in that it maxes out at about 10 or 11 o'clock. Only little nitpick I have is I wish the indicator on the motorized volume dial was illuminated and maybe a sub output. Can't beat it for $130 though!

Yeah my sub doesn't have xlr's but I haven't used it where I needed a sub yet anyway. I know there's workarounds so it's not a big deal, like I said just a little nitpick.

I paid $179 for the one that I got from Emotiva in August. Did I miss a better price somewhere?

I think what he's saying is that if you use your XLRs to your amp (or use them with a XLR to RCA cable to your amp) then you can use your RCA outputs to go to your sub. Then, using the crossover on your sub, tune in your sub so it's like having bass management.

$50 dollars off in emofest emobucks Mini-x doesn't have xlr's and my sub downstairs doesn't have a crossover. I'm going to grab a little sub at some point and if it doesn't have xlr's I'll just get some adapters. No big deal. Got $50 off a sr-120 too

Hi Guys
I have a problem with the volume knob on the PRE-1. It turns about 1/3rd of the way with the remote then it stops, if i manually turn it to approx 2/3rd of the way up the remote works again.
Sherbourn recommended I pull the volume knob off and loosen the nut i did this but its still problematic.
If i turn the volume shaft with my fingers with the knob off i can feel there is more tension on the shaft when it get to 1/3rd of the way up and its easier after 2/3rds.
Any suggestions?

Call Emo to repair or buy more amp, you won't have to turn it that far! He,,,,,,He,,,,,,,, If you haven't yet , read the Pre-1 thread. Peace, Nick

Unfortunately i am in south africa and shipping costs just to get it here was very expensive. However it was still cheaper than buying the unit locally.
So to send it back to the factory and get it back to me will cost the same price as the unit. Sherbourn needs to give me a solution to repair it here.
I have sent mails to sherbourn and emotiva. Firsr was to support@sherbourn....i am still waiting for a reply. Then i forwarded my mail to customerservices i got a reply from them. After the suggestion solution failed i mailed them again and i havent had a response. That was 2 days ago.

Bang! Back from the dead after five years. (I was going to say "Boom", but you know, Hi Boom .)
So how many of us are still using the Pre-1 in our systems today? I've been using, and continue to use, the Pre-1 as my phono pre-amp. It was first connected to my PT-7030, and is now connected to my XMC-1. (Its been so long that my XMC-1 is now a "Legacy" unit (sniff, sniff)). My turntable is nothing fancy. A mid 80's mid grade consumer unit that I'm very happy with. The quality of it's (at the time) moderately expensive cartridge, and the Pre-1 using the balanced outputs, is equal to the quality of a CD "DAC'd" through the XMC-1.
I don't use if often, but it's still working just as wonderful as it did the day I received it.
