Yes! That's what I like to see, some old-school magic. Quite a few sets you've got there. Always wanted to hear some L220's. How do you like them? The L220's are great speakers, good bass and the mid's & high's come through nicely. Not shown in the picture are my L300's which I believe sound much better than the 220's due to the mid horns. I love the JBL L300's, especially because I always thought the slant lens on it and other models looked so cool!

Top quality work. Really well done. They look to me at least as indistinguishable from the originals. So how do they sound in comparison to your Wharfedales?

Thanks, it became a labor of love trying to get them looking as close to the originals as possible and I spent a fair number of hours measuring and re-measuring to get the active crossover setup so that the sound is indistinguishable from the Crown amps. Difficult comparison to make mainly because of the different areas that I have them set up in. The Opus 2-3's are a decent sized tower speaker and probably the best speakers that Wharfedale made, extremely fast and articulate drivers and they can dig fairly deep, the midbass region is where the wharfedales shine. I have those setup in a 2.1 config in a fairly large room 25x20x19 so they have lots of breathing space. The 3 M2's on the other hand are in a HT room too small for the number of speakers within and they really do bring the thunder. I have spent a number of hours now listening to the M2's strictly in 2 channel mode and I could truly do that all day every day and never miss not having a subwoofer. Technically the M2's are reference quality loudspeakers, who am I to disagree with that however I don't think the wharfedales are too far behind.

I have never done anything with an active crossover so I decided to put together some speakers and a tri-amp system. Being an old JBL enthusiast and having some of the components I bought a few parts and now have the speakers. I will be using 2235H woofers, 2441 compression drivers/horn for the mid’s and 2404 tweeters. Amplifiers are a little over kill, XPA-1’s for the woofers and a XPA-3 4 channel for the mid’s and high’s. I have been working on modifying some cabinets that I had to put everything into, if everything works out how I hope then I might have some cabinets built. I got the components installed into the cabinets that I had and the sound pretty good. The response is fairly flat from about 37hz through 20Khz

How much smoothing is on that curve? They sound very good to me. The mid range is better than the L220's, I like the sound of the horn vs. the 5" in the L220. The bass is very tight, this may be because the amplifies have direct control of the speakers (no passive crossovers). The sound is similar to my L300's but it seams like the mid range is a little more detailed and the bass is better also. All in all I am very happy with them so it looks like I may be having some new cabinets built. Possibly a 2 piece cabinet, one for the 15 inch and a second to sit on top with the mids and tweeters. The curve is with 1/3 octave smoothing applied.

My favorite JBL is the Everest 66000. One of the best sounding speaker systems I have ever experienced. Too expensive for my budget perhaps, but part of a dream system... The best JBLs I ever owned was a set of 4315 studio monitors. Great speakers. I made the mistake of using them hanging on my patio in California and the woofer on both of them got eaten by rats. I gave them to a friend to repair...

Likewise so I spent probably two years securing all the drivers for both the 4345's and the 4355's for cloning. Now it's just down to cabinet building. Though I have other projects to get out of the way first.

So how do you like them, especially in comparison to your L300's which I'd guess driver-wise at least they're the most similar?
I've added more to my stable as well. Got a pair of 5628's (twin 2269 subs)for the basement theater and I also bought some M2's for the lounge.

Just love the JBLs. Could give a rats on those who don't get them. Plenty out there for their taste. Middle school and High School musical hijinks. God the memories. Or impromptu silly productions all heard on JBLs. Made the detentions worth it. I made my own speakers based on the L100. It wasn't quite the same, but the homage to them was just as fun. Yeah the only reason why I would do it and still my only reason now. I love seeing others keeping the brand doing well. I am going to make some of my bedroom system revolve around some current JBL. Particulars still pending. I had some of their studio monitors and enjoyed them too. Now a buddy making music for real has them. A happy deal for him. JBL is different in many ways now, but my feelings are still the same from way back.

Hey, any you JBL fans had any time with the Studio 590's ?? ...your thoughts? Got my hands on a set of 580 before they quit making them. $699 for the pair. Sound like Klipsch LaScalas with bass to me. Less harsh and more bass without the size.

I used to own a pair of JBL SVA-2100. Really nice sounding speakers, only issue was the mid mounted horn sort of washed out when I was standing or walking around in the room. I regret selling them though.

So do you have any other JBL's you're after now? The M2's - below pictured with one of my B460's - are the best speakers I've ever owned or heard. They present such a coherent image and go deeper than you'd expect. If I had one complaint it's that the horn can sometimes overpower the single bass unit. It's making me think that Woofer-Horn-Woofer combo might be the best tweak to the system. I have my twin B460's on, but it's not just the low frequencies - my sub's bow out at around 80Hz. I think it just needs help to around 400Hz or so. So maybe I'll have to see about adding the design to the list of speakers to build... Something like this (one of the Lansing Heritage Forum member's made the image)

These M2's just bring a grin to my face every time I listen to them, they are incredible. You got some! Congratulations!! Certainly the best speaker I've ever had the pleasure of owning and listening to. I can say the hype was real with these. I have mine in my lounge. I thinking of adding a pair of 708p's for rear surrounds and maybe one M2 for the center How do you rate them in comparison to everything else you've owned and what are you powering them with?

They are the best sounding speaker the I have, very detailed and the dynamics are unreal. I am powering them with a JBL Synthesis SDA 4600, same as a Crown DCi 4|600N.

I bought JBL 4312G monitors in 1990 or so for &800. I always thought they sounded very good but the big black box look was not too pleasing. I gave them to my son and recently I told him to take care o them because JBL started making them again for $2800.
