Hi all, goodness knows I don't need to heat my man cave anymore, but I do own another system and winter is coming. Eventually,,,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,, I think for starters Emo could go with a nice pre-amp so we could get our feet wet with tubes.
Waiting,,,,,don't hold your breath,,,,,,,,I'll wait till a) I tire of the XSP-1 b) I tire of waiting for an Emo tube anything c) just can't wait anymore
As I did with my pre-pro, I purchased something else and when I tier of it or it dies,,,,I'll purchase an Emotiva product. Doing without when you don't have too is silly, IMHO. YOU CAN ALWAYS TRADE UP , sorry bout the caps, to Emo . Sell what you settled for and depreciate accordingly and then get the Emo product you've waited for. I do know that not all of us can go this route, but for those that can swing it or can take the hit and save again it's worth it.
Listen to me preach and babble,,,,,,,I can't manage to upgrade my speakers over time!!!!!!! I settled for a pare of speakers,,,,,I need more discipline to save and get the biggest bang for the buck!!!!! The most well spent $$$$$$ to inprove the sound of a system , outside of room treatment, is your speakers!!!
Yet, I can't manage to do what I know is my best investment!!!!
Sad that I can't follow my own, and everyone else's very sound advice!!!!!
I'll end this by stating that I would really love to hear some Emo Glass,,,,,,,,he,,,,,,he,,,,,he,,,,,,,,

Warren Buffet once said, "Buy from historical performance, never from speculation." Applying this to audio, I would go ahead and buy a tube preamp based on it's reputation, and history. Waiting for the Emotiva Tube Preamps to appear is an indication that you would be buying from speculation. Buying a new preamp without a historical record is like receiving a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get, lol. Buy something that you know has a better resale value should you want to unload it, and buy the Emotiva.

Warren Buffet once said, "Buy from historical performance, never from speculation." Warren Buffet's great personal wealth not withstanding, I simply can't stand the man personally. There are other rich men I'd rather take advice from. Waiting for the Emotiva Tube Preamps to appear is an indication that you would be buying from speculation. Disagree. Emotiva has a great track record with amps and pre-amps. The fact that they are stepping into tubes doesn't change the equation. There is simply no doubt in my mind that Emotiva's step in this direction will be nothing but successful. Having said that, Emotiva's announcement of a product, and it's actual release date, can be many, many (many, many, many) months apart. I'm very happy with the Jolidas at this time.

Well, I'll definitely be unable to resist the tube pre. I don't need it, but will want to play with it anyway.

I kinda put "speculation",and "anticipation bias" in the same boat. For me, it's lead to disappointment more than once. Mostly not to do with audio though.

Thinking about buying a used SS pre until then like an xsp1. I e finally tried my xda2 independent from my yamaha receiver (thanks to an rca switch) and the difference was night and day. I just need a dedicated analog preamp for my turntable and tape deck.

Do yourself a favor and check twice a month, not a day. Think of it as the time to put more money away. Definitely, forget broke college kids, I'm a broke high-school kid!

A high school kid into high end audio? That's Flippin' Fantastic! The age demographic for audiophiles has been growing older since I was in HS 40 years ago. I go to audio shows and it's a bunch old farts like myself. In the 70's lots of 20 somethings. Great to see younger guys enjoying the hobby. Peace

But I've converted most of my friends away from the mainstream audio sources, and I've introduced them all to at least mid-fi. I'm hoping that as my generation gets older, they will start taking interests in hi-fi, but all the mainstream companies like beats and bose keep pumping out cheap earbuds or terrible speakers, so my generation has been taught what "high-end audio" sounds like. Therefore, I take refuge with all the old farts on the lounge, and pretty much every other forum haha.

I think Lonnie once said, "There will be no tubes before their time." Or something like that.

But he hasn't spent any money on it yet. It's all hand me downs from me. When I was his age I had over $5K (in 1985 dollars) into my system. Hey Boom, what happened to the old avatar? Every once in awhile I get bored and change them. Yeah, and it always blows my mind. I get used to a guys avatar and it becomes part of his personality. Then you go and change it and I don't know who I'm talking to. Definitely an Old Fart problem.

Ya, I've got over 1.5k in my system, and none of that is paid for by my parents, not even to mention my music collection. All my friends think I'm crazy. I'm definitely going to miss that rotating sun, it was the symbol of "boomzilla was here"

I thought I was the youngest on this forum. I'm only 27 and I've been able to afford the parts of my system by buying only one component at a time.

It makes me cry. In my mid/late 20s I blew a LOT of cash on HT components that are now obsolete. A good stereo can last you 30 years. Buy awesome now and just enjoy it.
Hopefully we hear something about tube gear soon.

Stereo is only dependent on the formats with which music is being made. Which has only had a major change, like 4 times? since the beginning of vinyl. Vinyl, tape, cd, digital-files. Good equipment remains good equipment, all that is needed is to perhaps buy a new source component every 20-30 years.
