The tube preamp that I am currently using was $3,000 in 1998. Adjusted for inflation today that would be roughly $4,500. I don't think I can ever afford to buy one of this items brand new. However, I think it would be worth it to pay that kind of money if you buy a proven reliable tube preamp. Needless to say, 15 years later this preamp still work as new!

That's one reason I didn't pull the trigger ----- The price.

That's one reason I didn't pull the trigger ----- The price. You could still find a very very good used tube preamp at a reasonable price....Just keep looking arund. I was lucky to be able to listen to the preamp I got before I bought it used.

I keep feeling like they're still playing catch up with the XMC-1 and DIRAC and once they're caught up, maybe some of the other products will start moving...
I'd still buy that clock, even though I don't realistically expect it to come to fruition!

I think that we all need to forget the old way that Emotiva did business. When you have the money and are ready to buy, just go do it. If Emotva has a product available great give them a shot. If it is not on the cart and available buy something else. I don't mean to be so direct about it, but I think that after all the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the xmc-1 we just aren't going to know until things are truly ready.
Regards,

I agree with you. Would be nice to know when something might come out - or if it's even in development, but I think the days of ETAs are long gone.. I'm sure Emotiva Glass will still happen, but it might be 1 month, or it might be 3 years from now.

I do truly understand why Big Dan wants to do it that way, but it was one of their separators from other companies. I would debate it with him over a beer or scotch if I ever had the opportunity, but he does know a lot more about this business than I do.
I hope they still come out with some awesome glass products, but they have limited resources and as already stated they are probably mostly engaged in the xmc-1 finish.

I would not wait on anything else than what is available NOW from ANY company. This is not just an Emotiva case, but also the case with most other "higher end" companies promising to release product that make take over a year to hit the streets. I too thought about waiting for the RMC for example, and Dan has talked about releasing products using the XMC platform, but who knows when you will actually see something. Just be assured that what you buy today will be outdated in 2 years by something flashier and more features at the same price you pay today.

There are sooooooooo many proven good designs out there that I find it silly waiting for one from Emotiva. Do some research and if you can some auditioning and buy one.

I'm not in any rush - and I'm not obsessed with tubes. Much like their SS gear - I'm sure it'll perform well and be good value - so why not? Lots of tube gear has farcical pricing.

However, if you want to enjoy and try new gear it is silly to wait for something that might never happen when you can enjoy it right now. Pricing on gear is irrelevant as people are willing to pay whatever he or she wants to pay for gear. Go listen to a good preamp and I guarantee you that will be in a rush in a hurry to get one. I personally think when it comes to tube preamps it is challenging to make it good and cheap. Maybe that is why the past association between Emotiva with a tube amp designer and builder did not materialized. If Emotiva comes out with a low priced tube preamp, it is going to be just a cheap tube preamp. Not worth the wait in my opinion.
