There's an obvious difference between using the 40% discount card and UFL 25% discount with Emotiva direct and using them with a Distributor. Currently there is only one price (that the Discounts are applied to), the official price on the Emotiva Web Site. I might be wrong but I just don't see how a Distributor is going to maintain the same price in Australia whilst paying for international and local freight, Import Duty (5%), Customs Clearance Fees and GST (10%) plus taking any exchange rate risk. They would have to be giving them some serious discount and then taking the 25% or 40% discount off that as well.
The devil will be in the detail no doubt.
Cheers Gary

Hi Garry
I have imported many Emotiva products into Australia.
This is how I think it will work without paying any more for what the price is on the Emotiva Web Site and I'm taking about retail outlets here here in Australia, if buying a XPA-1L for $600usd, buy the time it gets here with paying exchange rates, duty, shipping, gst and what ever else, total cost will be just over $1000.00aud,(this is just for one item) the more you buy the cheaper the shipping cost from the USA So I believe we will still pay the same cost, Dan will have to neg a better price for the retailer, don't forget we are talking about over fifty new outlets, Emotiva will make a killing.
cheers
Mick

As you can see from my signature I have 10 Emotiva products currently. Earlier this year I bought 2 x XPA-1L's and, like all of the others, I didn't pay any customs clearance, duty or GST on them as they were under $1K each shipment and for personal use. The under $1K exemption won't apply to a distributor, they will pay customs clearance fees, duty and GST on everything. That adds around 20% to every single product. As we all know the $A exchange rate floats, I've bought some Emotiva gear at $US1.10 and some at $US0.70. That's rather unpredictable and just how exchange rates work, a Distributor has to build in some margin in the retail pricing to allow for downwards movements otherwise they will be issuing price lists every day. They could of course hedge forward currency buys based on their predicted $US requirements, that costs around 2%. So even before distributor margins there's ~22% cost that we as private importers don't face.
No distributor/retailer I know of in Australia works at margins less than 50%, can't pay wages and the rent for less or cover warranty costs. So I see an XPA-1L that sells for $US600 direct from Emotiva selling for around $A2,000 here. That puts a big dent in the distributor's prospective sales, plus a couple of mouse clicks and anyone can see what they can buy for direct from Emotiva.
Cheers Gary

So Garry you're in with a x3.333 emotiva price.
I know not strictly true, as I am not taking the emotiva price in AUD.

Ignoring exchange rates, which move around all the time, my guess would be around double the price retail in Australia compared to the online price direct from Emotiva. To keep the price the same the local distributor would need around a 70% discount on the online price. I just don't see that as being a workable business model.

Just having a bit of fun. Most of our US friends don't know of the massive markups we endure down under. Because of outdated geolocation distribution models, general lack of will of Government and the many protected industries, we pay above the odds. One of the core reasons I am an emotiva fan.
I will leave it at that due to forum rules.

You can already pre-order down under now I believe, Retail Aussie price for the XMC-1 is listed as $3,999.
I doubt we'll be able to use 40% off cards local, maybe Emotiva will work something out but am guessing the cards would still need to go to Emo HQ for qualification. Awesome news that Emotiva is on offer locally now, be great for other things and warranty. My drooling over the XMC-1 days are long gone though, well out of my price range. Still great news for Australian Emo fans/customers, it's good to see Emotiva expanding and doing so well.

You can already pre-order down under now I believe, Retail Aussie price for the XMC-1 is listed as $3,999. An XMC-1 is probably a bad example as it's going to attract GST (no duty as it's made in the USA) whether it's a private import or a distributor import. Something under $1K not made in the USA would be a better comparison. Because firstly they make up easily the greatest number of Emotiva purchase and a private import has no duty or GST whereas a distributor import has both. An XDA-2 for example, locally $A699 compared to direct $US299. Which at today's exchange rate is ~$A430 less 10% EClub for me plus around $A90 for freight is ~$A480. That's a $A219 saving ie; 45% more buying from the local distributor. Personally if I wanted an XDA-2 I wouldn't be paying 45% more for it just for the privilege of dealing with someone locally, actually not that "local" as they are over 1000 k's away. Shoot I could get Emotiva to stick a LittleEgo in the box and still be in front. Cheers Gary

XMC-1, no discount, my calcs.
USD Cost: 2500 Freight 200
AUD total @70c: 3857.14
Other costs (AUD): Clearance fee: 70 GST: 385.71
Gives me a grand total of $4312.86.
Cheaper to buy it from the local distributor, but because every man and his dog has a discount of some description until we know how they can be applied it's all guesswork.

Why are you unable to order internationally off the website now, when did this change ?, I used to be able to place an order to Canada without having to call them but now I am told to email or call for a quote for pricing.

I would be buying from Emotiva direct at those prices, but my guess is that we here in AU will no longer to be able to buy direct from emotive as it wouldn't fair to the retailer would it.

I recall somewhere that Dan said they would never stop anyone buying direct from emotiva ... Ah here it is Hi guys, Please relax. Change is unsettling and sometimes misunderstood. Please let me put your concerns to rest... We not raising our prices. We will accommodate our retail partners without raising our prices to our customers. We've spent quite a bit of time developing our blended market strategy and we will not do it on the backs of our customers by raising our prices. Look around the market and find any brand that is close to us from a competitive standpoint. We don't plan on giving this position up. Ever. We will NEVER stop selling direct to our customers. At the same time, we want more people of learn about the brand and have the chance to experience Emotiva in their homes. Not everyone is a hobbyist. Some people have no desire to set up and program their gear. They want to have someone else do it for them. For them a retail partner is needed to help them realize their goals. Some people need to touch, feel, and hear their gear before making a purchase decision. They need a retail environment. We want our brand to be accessible to anyone who is interested in becoming an owner and a part of our customer family. We're growing and this is a good thing for everyone involved! Please know that our customers needs and concerns are very important to us. We are making these changes to better serve everyone. We know where we've come from and we know where we are going; and we want all of you to come along with us. Cheers, Big Dan From emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/42966/emotiva-branching-out-retail-stores

So will these partners be resellers/distributers or is it some kind of parallel import deal with some small retail outlet? Seeing as you will be able to buy direct and local, I wonder how things such as customer issues, warranty and 30 day trial etc will work.
I can see people buying direct from Emotiva for savings and then trying to get support for problems and warranty etc from the local retail distributer in their own country. I wonder how the retail partner will deal with these kind of situations with grey imports. Don't get me wrong, for us folks in other countries a local rep and place to see/purchase is exciting indeed. If you get the same offers, support and service we're used to from Emotiva direct.
In Australia a great deal of business isn't too keen on supporting parallel/grey importing and there's often other legal hic-ups when it come to local consumer protection laws, rights and obligations.
Exciting and interesting times ahead, I hope it goes well for both Emo and customers.
