I think that Dan referred to US sales only when he talked about Direct sales not going away, but i might be wrong.

Only a 4400 mile round trip!! Bet the shipping cost Melbourne to WA will be similar to USA to WA. I can't imagine for a second that it would be free. Warranty will be the same nightmare.
Grrr +1

How much did you pay for freight, or did you use the freight forward co. They weigh the same as a postage stamp :-) local price is $450, I figure you beat that by at least $100 AUD.

Wow...an XPA-5 for $1999 Aus
Wow...an XPA-5 for $799 US$
$1200 for exchange and shipping
I want to OWN that company with their margins. That is if they actually end up selling anything to an informed consumer.
Target couldn't figure out that Canadians could add the US price, exchange rate and estimated shipping to see that they were hammering the Canadians who quickly stopped shopping at Target Canada. Now Target is offering shipping to Canada at even HIGHER prices. Guess they will not last long.
US companies do this constantly and wonder why the don't end up as a growing business in Canada. LOL
Glad I have residences in Canada and the US

XPS-1 is either AUD350 or USD119. that's either an enormous margin or it gets its own seat on the plane*. I asked whether the current sale they emailed me about is available in Australia, got the "contact the distributor" reply.
Pass. Exclusive distributors are the reason we've been getting ripped off on hifi gear for decades. The internet - and companies like Emotiva - largely cured that problem, now it seems we're back to square one. Yes, I understand the economics of it (distributors pay import duty/GST on everything, they wear exchange risk, have to run a business, make a profit etc etc). But if that makes the products no longer competitive, there's no point them even existing.
Having said all of the above, if I were in the market for an XMC-1 I still might go to the Aust. distributor because that's the only product they're advertising that is about the same price as I can import one for. That is, it was competitive before the current sale, and before Emo stopped selling to me direct. And assuming I can use my 40% card with the distributor as well.
*Hyperbole.

If (when?) I want to buy an XMC-1 I'll be going to Franklin to buy it and bring it back in my suitcase. I'll save about what the airfare will cost me and I get holiday in the US for free.
Cheers Gary

You don't even need to go to franklin...just ship it too a hotel or friends place and collect when you get there. but franklin is fun and you might get to meet the Laufmans which is a privilege indeed.

I tried to buy an XSP in the current sale. Knocked back. Have to wait another 6 weeks to pay $1999 for it plus freight from the Oz seller when they finally get stock

That sucks, if buying direct is no longer an option then Emotiva has killed its international sales in those countries.

The next trip to the US is mapped out, fly to New York, catch a few Broadway Shows, drive to Washington, update the Museum experiences, drive the Smokey Mountains route to Lynchburg, Memphis and Nashville. It adds Kentucky and Tennessee to my list of States visited plus I'd like to time it with Emofest. Cheers Gary

That's quite some suitcase size you have! Be careful of your back! Eh, an XMC-1 is only 14 kgs, we get 22 kgs per suitcase allowance. That leaves 8 kgs for clothes, plenty for me, not so much for my wife. She will leave Sydney with 10 kgs in one suitcase and come back with 22 kgs in that suitcase as well as buy a new suitcase and that will have 22 kgs in it as well. Plus the suitcases have wheels, so no big deal there. Cheers Gary

Twice she shipped very large and heavy items she bought on a whim after bargaining/haggling in Asia. She thought she got a deal but after shipping and custom duties I know it wasn't.

Looking at the prices in Australia I have real doubts that I will be buying from the newly appointed Australian dealer. I will consider using an American forwarding company. It is disappointing that the statement from Lonne about customers not being disadvantaged when a local dealer is appointed has not been honoured
