Maybe you should order some cables while you're at it. I'm still waiting on someone from Aus to order one so I know how much I'll be up for. Mine is one the way, price was like nearly $1600 AUD exchange rate depending, including shipping, and I've just been slugged with a further $221 import duty and tax which I've just paid about a half hour ago. Unit is in Melbourne now, so delivery should be tomorrow (Friday the 12'th) If it had squeezed through without the GST/Duty it would have arrived today. First piece of Emo gear I been hit with import duty and GST. Even my Seaton Submersive got through without duty/GST, both the sub like 3 years ago and more recently the upgraded amp module for it. The freight component was $225 USD, so like around the $250 AUD or so. So all up call it $1850 AUD,and were it not for the 40% discount , don't think I would have bothered in hindsight.

There shouldn't be any Import Duty, just GST @10%. Ask for a Tax Invoice, you are entitled to one, if they have charged Import Duty then ask for a refund based on the fact that it's Made in the USA and the Free Trade Agreement applies. Cheers Gary

Is this your first piece of emo gear shipped ups? If the Dirac component was taken out it probably would have saved you substantially. And you don't have Dirac....... I got my XMC-1 on Tuesday - I'm in Melbourne.
Summary of costs:
With the 40% discount:
XMC-1: US$1199.40
Freight: US$225.47 UPS Worldwide (shipping to Melbourne) Total: US$1,424.87
I then paid with a 28degrees Mastercard through paypal in US$ to avoid fees and paypal's ripoff currency conversion rate.
Worked out to AU$1,530.97 on my card statement.
Then when it arrived, to UPS I paid:
SECURITY FEE 9.95 SECURITY FEE GST 1.00 GST PAID TO CUSTOMS 154.36 CUSTOMS ENTRY FEE 56.20
TOTAL 221.51
So a Grand total of $1752.48
I spoke to the UPS lass on the phone to find out the if there was any duty (which there definitely isn't) and to find out the exact reason why there wasn't, and it's the AUS-US FTA.

Not sure who you are talking to here, Autocrat or me or both hehe with the double quote. But yeah, for me this piece shipped via UPS, all the other Emo stuff have been FedEx. (UMC-1 XDA-1 USP-1 3xUPA-1 and a UPA-2) Not sure what Dirac has to do with it though pricewise. Cheers, Z

Dirac is software which is included in the price but to which you don't actually have access. It is worth (from others on the forum) US$500 so, in my mind, should be billed separately, bringing your total cost under $1000AUD Interesting that I also have never been stung GST with Fedex. I am going to order the XMC-1 although I am a bit worried about its noise gate chopping off the start of some songs like the UMC-1 does, search the bugs thread for more. Not sure what Dirac has to do with it though pricewise. Cheers, Z

Hi all. I am in Australia and thinking of buying the Fusion receiver. I want to know how the warranty etc works. If there was a problem with the unit would I have to pay a small fortune to get it shipped back to the US? Also will I need to buy a different power lead to work with our 240volt power here in Oz? My experience (having had 10) has been that Emotiva gear is highly reliable and unlikely to need warranty. If it does, most work can be done locally via an Emotiva supplied circuit board swap. The plug on the cord is US spec, so needs to be swapped for a local plug or a complete cord. You can use a $big super duper audiophile power cord, a jug cord from Bunnings or a multitude of choices in between. Cheers Gary Still a bit unsure about lead. Would this work?

Yes, any power cord from a PC etc will work. I just chopped off the US plug and replaced it with an AU plug.

I also swap the plug for Aussie style, especially power amp cords as the Emotiva ones are rated for higher current than the average PC power cord. Any electrician can do that for you, and most (but not all) are licensed to test and tag power cords. Cheers Gary

Use cllipsal part numbers #439S for the UMC-1 etc and #439SXHD for the XPA-5 For replacing the US style plug. Black is ACTIVE or our brown White is NEUTRAL or our black How confusing is that! Or just purchase an IEC power cable. Yes, any power cord from a PC etc will work. I just chopped off the US plug and replaced it with an AU plug. Chopped off? ??

Did that to all my Emo purchases. Not sure if there'll be any more while bongo is involved..... Keep Casting - JC

Hopefully I'll never need to use Bonzo or whatever it's called. Emotiva could save us Australians some money by charging separately for the Dirac, which does not ship with the XMC-1 (at this time). The above $221.51 would disappear if the shipping documentation excluded Dirac at a price that would bring the XMC-1 to say $900. The Dirac component could be charged separately but paid for at the same time with "to-be-shipped" or some such thing included. Big Dan, Kathy, can you help please! Also if UPS tries to charge you $9.95 plus $1 GST tell them to go fly a kite. The shipping has been paid ex USA and any further fee is a try-on!!
