Another weird quark with the emotiva mic that I found last night. Rew measurements are not accurate if you run a 4 sweep average. Not sure what Is going on there, But I discovered its existence while making the calibration file.

Tony I noticed the cal file for the EMM in the Dirac folder only corrects down to 31hz. From your measurements have you noticed if this is causing any issues to corrections below 31hz?

Good catch, guess I am back to sending my mic to Cross Spectrum. Thanks You're sending the Emotiva mic to CS? Yes I will be once its in my grubby little paws. 75 bux with return shipping give me 3 axis calibration. I gotta know how herbs files compare to what Dirac is using. I don't believe using a measuring tape in place of micrometer is of any value. In my world close enough is not close enough.

My mic seems to have a mind of its own....levels fluctuating from low to maxed out even when its dead quiet or XLR is unplugged. After closing Dirac, I keep getting sweep tones through my speakers. A hard reboot of the XMC was required. I tried to take some videos.....dead quiet, HVAC shut off even. One video shows the mic unplugged which made no difference on the fluctuating levels in the software. Bad mic? #1 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKvHG7b7_NM#2 (mic unplugged) - www.youtube.com/watch?v=MN2Fowe3Sxg#3 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrdHH21L_7U- Sometimes the terseness of my reply can't be blamed on my phone.

switched them to unlisted...see if that works. AGC? auto-gain-compensation? - Sometimes the terseness of my reply can't be blamed on my phone.

Make sure it's not checked in Windows' properties for the Mic. I think it's in the Custom tab. Not sure if it will cure anything for you but that needs to be unchecked nonetheless.

thanks....will check it tonight. I need to re-run stuff as I've got a cold solder joint on my right surround midbass and it was clear I was only getting HF in the measurement out of that speaker (its always something, right? never easy) - Sometimes the terseness of my reply can't be blamed on my phone.

I should have my third Dirac USB cable delivered today. Hoping and praying this cable works and I can finally run Dirac.
*fingers crossed*

I hope the cable works out for you! I am enjoying the results from Dirac, it was worth the wait.

From Lonnie : I am very curious to get to the bottom of what is going on here with the Mics. During production the mics are tested three different times before they are packed up and given the aluminum body they are pretty well protected from damage unless a really loud (as in excess of 120db) sound hits them which can damage the diaphragm. That is pretty unlikely though unless you are yelling into the mic. No offense intended here, but it is a really sensitive mic and yelling into it will damage it. Please don't do that. Lonnie I realize I'm joining late in the game, so I hope you'll forgive me if this has already been answered. Wouldn't dropping the mic on a hard surface, or similarly jarring it, cause the same damage?

I was worried when I started reading the OP. Now I'm worried and lost. I'm no more special special than the next guy, and perhaps even less so. What I'm trying to say is that my time isn't worth more than any of yours (especially those who have done all this hard work), but can someone please help? Is there a connect-the-dots procedure to finding out if your mic is good/bad? TIA

TIA onesufferinmind, I am still working this out, Right now the best method us using a full range speaker and taking a measurement with REW with the microphone 1 meter away to see the frequency response. The measurement should be very similar to what the specifications of the speaker are. This would be the most accurate way to test, but also have the highest learning curve. The next method easier, but less accurate, is to use a SPL meter and using test tones to spot check what dirac is seeing. The test tones are built into the XMC and even a phone would get it close. I still have a few more tutorials to work out and will have something soon. (I hope) Tony

The mic has to be somewhat heavy duty. It's being shipped all around the world in boxes and or bubble-lined envelopes. Heading home from work now. I'll give the new cable a go and hope it works with the mic.

Whah whah whah.... I feel like I am the punchline of a bad joke. Here is my new XMC-1 Dirac cable. I don't think this is going to help me.... Guess I'll have another weekend without Dirac working. First world problems right here!!!
