I quoted this from FAQ, but would like to discuss it here and if other can repeat the result then Tony please consider to add to FAQ. I had this same problem with Mic and thought I had a bad Mic. But I saw Lonnie said it‘s a driver conflict in the computer rather than bad gear. I use Win7 32bits. It recognized the Mic, show c-media driver in Mic property under control panel and allow me to run Dirac. Dirac generated sound under gain and volume adjustments but Mic did not work. Updated driver for the Mic through its’ property panel. Either it went through or Win7 said it already had the best driver. It did not work. At this point, I did 2 things. 1. Open CCleaner program and disable soundcard from startup when turn on computer to make sure no other potential conflict driver loaded. 2. Right click My Computer(or computer) and select manage, then select device manager and uninstall driver for Mic or input Sound device(I could not remember exactly that it is under USB controllers or sound, video and games).
Unplug the Dirac Mic and plug it back. Win7 will install new driver and everything including Mic works now. Ran Dirac again, complete and got good result.

Very valid point. you can not just trust MS windows to install the correct driver. I am sure ansat will add this to his FAQ .

I would like to see if the CCleaner helps anyone else before making a reccomendation as it adds yet another thing to try and troubleshoot. ;D Tony

What happened to Socketman's calibration file? I should have it in the faq in the calibration zip. Tony

So just to get this straight, the XMC-1 supplied EMM-1 microphone has a generic calibration file? I have a UMIK-1, I think I will have to generate my own EMM-1 cal file as well... or should I even bother and just use the EMM 1?

If not, get Dirac Full and use the UMIK.

I do have Dirac Full, but was curious about the other mic, mostly. If it's a decent mic, and I expect that it should be, I would like to use it, perhaps for other purposes.

If you have a UMIK and a cal file associated with it, just use it. Personally, I wish Emotiva would give the option of having DIRAC Full or their mic for the same price. I would rather have DIRAC full, but my own mic, and not have their mic. Many seem to opt for this. Mark

That would have been a cool idea! It's just that I have this mic, and it's gonna gather dust. I'm like that... years of catholic school.

Mark Remember here when it comes to Dirac full.. thats a price controlled by Dirac, not Emotiva so I don't think a swap is feasible. Plus I'm sure the mic comes at a lower cost than $99. Its pretty cheap to get full Dirac and scoop a UMIK-1. Its all still worlds less expensive than Dirac from Dirac.

Frankly, I would rather save a mere $10 and NOT have a piece of gear I will never use that will likely end up in a recycling pile, and ideally pay a little less for the XMC-1 and put that towards full Dirac. Others may differ, but that is where I am. Mark
