Nice work dyohn.
Personally I am all over a product that is all digital video - okay, maybe one set component video connectors. After all if you can spend $$ on the XMC and XPA I think it is time to get a new DVD player. Just my opinion.
It would be nice if we could get some updated info from the Emo Area-51/Skunkworks. Its like this product has all but disappeared. So many are whining that they cannot wait any longer for the UMC but it is a least close.

The Emo Area-51/Skunkworks area seems to be closed now. Instead, we'll find out new stuff about products a few weeks before they're released, making planning ahead as far as getting rid of old gear/money together twice as inconvenient to deal with. And, you just hope that those that guessed right and were ready to buy when it comes out don't buy more than expected, otherwise they'll be on backorder until God knows when or replaced by a future product to be released at an undisclosed date.
I'm still surprised a little complaining on an online forum concerning a release date that's changed countless times was enough to make Emo make such a sweeping change to their information release strategies. To me the price you pay of having a bunch of people waiting with cash in hand to buy something is that they're going to bug you and just be a general pain in the butt at times along the way....sounds like a small price to pay for such a luxury....

I love it! Since I'm in the build from scratch mode - all digital is no prob. The XMC is just what I'm looking/waiting for (did I say w a i t i n g [patiently]). It's too bad my OPPO is just sitting there looking good - it' waiting too. As far as EMO's announcement policy - find another company even close to them. I thing they're a little embarrassed and bummed - this never happened to them before. The closer you get to the edge.....

By the way, if anyone from Emotiva is reading this, it would be Really Great if the various audio modes on an input had discreet IR codes. On my DMC-1 I have a Denon 3930ci DVD player which I use with the DMC-1 both for DVD audio reproduction as well as for CD reproduction. I have my Harmony remote set up with a "Listen to CD" and a "Watch DVD" macros, both of which select the optical digital audio connection to the Denon. But for listening to CDs I need to have STEREO be the selected audio mode on the DMC-1, while for watching DVDs I want surround processing. I find myself having to constantly manually select these modes every time I go back and forth between listening to CDs and watching DVDs. Casey I second this feature request. Discrete IR codes for the audio modes makes programming universal remotes a lot easier. Best regards, Ole Willy Tuv

I believe both the UMC and XMC will have assignable sound modes for each of the "sources"... meaning that you can set up a "Listen to CD" source (using a DVD player) and have it use the optical input and have the sound mode set to Stereo. And then "Watch DVD" can use the same optical input, but have the default sound mode be "PL IIx" or whatever you prefer. So when you select that source, the sound mode should switch to your preferred mode and you don't have to mess with it.

I don't get that photo ... ten HDMI inputs, and no component inputs? no two-channel audio inputs?
sorry to bring this to a low level, but how would you hook a Wii up to it?

Wow, I've never purchased emotiva products but have been pulling my hair out trying to find something with true room 2 HDMI out and honestly just gave up and was going to buy something like the Denon 4310 where at least it has 2 hdmi out but not independantly selectable - and then I heard about emotiva..... Unless the room correction stuff is no good (waiting on reviews on the UMC), the specs cut the room 2 hdmi out, or its insanely expensive emotiva looks like it will convert me to buying a bundle with the xpa-5. I am concerned about a huge delay though since the XMC is pushing into new hdmi territory and ANY device pushing into new HDMI territory has been either very delayed or severly bug ridden (or both.. see sherwood 972/trinnov)

The XMC-1 will simply have two independent HDMI outputs which means it will have two independent video chips. So video-wise, it will be able to do twice what the UMC-1 is capable of doing.

I mean there are several things no single device (AVR or pre-pro), that I am aware of, does yet (sure you can take a combination of several devices but no single device matrixes hdmi like that in addition to all the normal receiver/pre-pro duties). I guess you are right its essentially 2 UMC-1s for the processing with seperate sources or a single source split when both outs are pointed to same source. If the XMC was $1000... wow an XMC + UPA 5 or 7 absolutely blows everything away in the "bang for the buck" category. Is there a preorder list yet?

re: network capabilities (streaming over the network etc) I am glad I found like minds here that think thats best left to a seperate source device. Sounds like another product for emotiva to make Seems these days message boards are clogged with people having issues with this sort of network stuff on their receivers when to be honest... if you really want flexibility for those network capabilites you can easily and cheaply build a small PC and stream via digital and have it do far more than any onboard stuff on a receiver. If emotiva want to cheaply add additional support for a pc/mac they could add a usb digital connection like most headphone DAC+Amp units do - that way even a little netbook with no digital out could be used as a streaming device.

I'd likely buy a media streamer. Although I'm toying with the idea of recycling an old laptop into an HTPC.

streaming should be done by another component and really I wish they would leave the tuner out too it can be add as a separate component , adding DSP and the like OK , just MHO

Just a little clarification please I usually spend some time every couple days on the forums. I remember that the list of official final XMC specs were going to be posted before the UMC shipped so those who pre-ordered could choose. I was curious if I just missed that post? I know that Emo is extremely busy and by no means is this a complaint or anything like that. Just needing clarification, if it's not final yet then that's okay. I would rather have them take the time to get it right. Thanks

Don't know if I missed it, but is the XMC going to be 3D friendly. In other words, is the HDMI going to pass the 3D information?

If the UMC-1 is going to be upgradeable to HDMI 1.4 for 3D, I see no reason why the XMC shouldn't either come that way, or be upgradeable.
