wait for the next emotiva processor with atmos! You mean "Wait for the first Emotiva processor with Atmos", don't you? Dolby Atmos has arrived not with a bang but with a thud (as it should)! I do not think that it is even remotely feasible for most home applications...I know this statement may ruffle a few feathers but keep in mind the audience here...Although I have a few friends with what I would call "decent systems" nearly all of them could be had at Best Buy and most don't really even know what they have hell most of them still think Dolby takes the "hiss" out of their music...But I digress...We all know that Dolby/DTS has to bring new products to the market so they can sell and license to keep up the revenew Yes I said reveNEW streams coming in...I too have heard a very high end Atmos system and I too was unimpressed or should I say not impressed enough to try and convince my wife that although the DTS Master was the holy grail and we HAVE to have it that Atmos is really truly the holiest of grails and we need it now! Firstly who wants to cut holes in their ceilings OR have speakers mounted above their screens/TVs or buy some "module" that your speaker maker haphazardly put together so you can set it on top of the speakers that you have and WORSE buy two more amps Just to get the occasional ...Whissssh of a helicopter taking off Or a rain drop slightly less then 1 foot off center, and only if you happen to have one of the 3 or so movies that are encoded! I know that may seem short sited but lets all agree the 2.1/5.1/5.2/6.1/7.1 and now possibly 8.1 is getting a bit out of hand! I would assert that the last great move in home theater processing was going "lossless" and increasing the bitrate i.e. DTS Master and Dolby lossless! I feel it was the most significant improvement since adding a discrete center channel (remember pro-logic Ugh?) The sound/effects are truly better and more realistic and isn't that what were all here for? So for me I will skip the "Atmos" portion of this ride that I have been on since 1987 and wait until the next, next, next best thing comes around...

That's fine for you, but I have a feeling you won't like the next best thing either.
