I've not heard of "low bit rate Atmos", having visited HDMI.org many times I haven't seen a standard for that. Is it just LG or are other manufacturers doing it? Is "low bit rate Atmos" another way of describing Atmos delivered via Dolby Digital Plus? Whereas "high bit rate Atmos" (if there is such a name) is delivered via Dolby TrueHD? Streaming services offering Atmos sound tracks are not using the higher bitrate HD audio track found on blurays. But you already knew that based on your responses. As far as other manufactures offering Atmos over ARC, you can always just click here. ARC can be a viable solution in certain situations depending on your sources and TV setup. I use ARC in my living room on the Sony 75". I only have a 5.1 set up there so the loss of Atmos is not any big deal at all. As I stated earlier the only down side of ARC to me on my Sony is that I use up one of my two HDR capable inputs leaving me with just one HDR input. ARC does make day to day functioning of the setup much easier though. Since I don't have to switch inputs on the AVR the WAF is much greater. We can just turn on the Apple TV and it turns on the tv and the AVR all at once. The volume control for the Apple TV then controls volume for the HDR via HDMI so no need for clear line of sight for IR to work. It does make my living room much simpler to use. The part where it does not help me at all is in my Media Room. I have a projector in there with only 2 total HDMI inputs but since the projector is mounted on the ceiling I would not want to run a separate HDMI line for all five of my video devices there anyway. In the media room everything has to run through the AVR (or Processor). In this case the lack of 4k HDMI is a killer. Sure I could run one dedicated HDMI for a 4k player, but then I am just making a temporary work around for the limitation of my AVR.

That’s a good point. I plugged my Sony 4K blu-ray player back in the receiver bc the TV it was not sending Dolby True HD via ARC.
Until the XMC-1 gen3 comes along, I’m stuck with my wonderful $350 Sony 7.2 receiver with 4K HDR capability 😊
