They're some of the ugliest speakers I've seen pics of.. but Dan says they're awesome. So anyone who disagrees must be crazy. Way to hit another home run Emo. Keep up the great work.

And I DID have plans to buy some of the new passive bookshelf speakers. But... Oh well they don't like canadian dollars anyway.

Of course that's your opinion. We all have (at least) one of those. Mine is:

Black is classic, had an innate appeal, blends universally with pretty much all decors, and is elegantly exciting in its simplicity.

Oh and it's also velvety and chocolatey!

As "audiophile" speakers they should be a centerpiece or stand out as high quality aesthetic pieces in the room. Not be bland and "fit in".

The price is nice for sure, I can't see Emotiva going to great lengths to build ultra high end speakers but that's just me, they seem to be in competition with my Chane A5-rxc towers but mine have fake wood so they are nicer oh and mine weigh 55lbs each so there haha, and Dan mine are just square boxes but they sound really really good

I've owned the ERT, Airmotiv and Stealth series of speakers (still have the AM4's) and true, they are pretty plain in appearance but I like black speakers and kudos to Emo for solid cabinets and excellent construction quality. Sure, the speakers are not Salk Sound quality in appearance but then they're also far from Salk Sound prices, too. A nice veneer finish would probably add a significant amount to the sales price, which would then bring out the complaints about how Emo gear isn't the value it used to be and why is it so expensive, etc. Also, how many would they actually sell with different and more expensive finishes? It's like when McD finally came out with salads after so many people clamored for them, but how many people do you see eating salads at McD? A few.

I can understand why some folks want something other than the basic black, and also think the speakers look strange because it conjures up images of Darth Vader, whereas others think it is just fine. I also understand Dan's reasoning behind the black-only finishes.

Another instance of DIYD, DIYD if you ask me.

Black doesn't stick out like a sore thumb. Speakers should be heard and not seen. And if they were available in 100 different finishes for no extra charge, I would take the satin black which also has a high WAF at this home.

I think the Airmotiv speakers will find many a happy home. They are well built,been endowed with all the goodies from the powered Airmotiv speakers, less the power. I hear you. You may love these passive ones, you might not. The polarization of a product you haven't seen or heard is amazing. Everyone should be happy with their listening experience no doubt. If it is the Airmotiv speakers then great. If not, then I know you will find some you will enjoy. That is the way it is, and has to be. Your room, your speakers, your listening, your choice. I would love to read more about this, but I am too busy enjoying my music on the speakers I have. Have a great listening weekend everyone.
