With the announcement of the upcoming OPPO 4K disc player, I was curious about the depth of the interest. For me there needs to be a solid amount of popular content available before I would give up my trusty OPPO 93. As a matter of fact, I held out until five years ago on buying a Blu-Ray player. I've slowly been transitioning my favorite DVDs to Blu-Rays as I could justify it. Some will never get upgraded, and now there is this new standard to think about. So I went to Amazon to see if a couple of the new movies I'm interested in getting are available on 4k discs yet. Nope, not yet.

Ok, my bad. Being "OPPO centric" I didn't realize that there were affordable 4k disc players already available. Though one might argue that they aren't fully UHD compliant yet. If I could edit the pole I would. Maybe that will be one of the changes Keith promised I suppose "As soon as it's out" would be appropriate.

Where have you been? Like bmoney, I have had the Samsung UHD8500 4k player since it came out and I have 30 4K movies. By the way, the Oppo 93 does not play all Dolby Atmos discs well.

This is getting a little silly if you ask me. I am still buying DVD and only buying Blu-ray when it includes DVD. I do not see any difference with my OPPO 103 and samsung 1080p plasma TV. When the gear and media is in play and the cost is not overblown it may take hold. I bet many out there are satisfied with what they have and times are tuff financially for most. $800 for a new phone has got silly as well. When are they going to learn that if they can bring the price down and make it reliable they will improve there sales. Stop this trying to go to the better future so fast. It sounds cool and all the tech folks love it but I think they are leaving there consumer behind.

After watching several demos in a Magnolia theater I am not really in a hurry to drop huge loads of cash on either a 4K television or a 4K bluray plater. I really enjoy my Panasonic plasma televisions and to me they still look fantastic with 1080P programming. My wife and kids don't even care to listen through surround sound most times and movie night rarely happen here. I am usually watching movies alone late at night in a pitch black basement theater so the bluray and plasma set up is doing a good enough job for me

The last time I checked the list of UHD movies was in the spring. Now there are several movies I would like to have in UHD. I guess that I'll see what the new OPPO looks like when it comes out. Edit: No wait. I clicked on several of the "4K" movies I was interested in, and UHD discs are not available

Well those of us with eyes can see the difference between DVD (NTSC - come on!), Blu_Ray (I have 400), and 4k (I have 30). Furthermore I can tell the difference between 4K and 4K HDR discs. The industry has always been this way; SOTA products at premium prices, sold to early adopters until mass production and brings costs down.

Already have one, I prefer 3D if its done right. Wearing glasses makes 3D unbearable. I think you are the only person that raves about 3D Nick but I am glad you enjoy it

Oh yeah, I could see that being a huge benefit with UHD on a screen that size. I have nowhere in my home big enough for a screen that large so I am glad I went the way of Plasma when Panasonic was on top of it's game

Panasonic Plasmas, 1080p blu ray disks, and my Oppo 103 are doing more than I can ask for me at the moment... I may upgrade my XMC-1 for ATMOS/DTS-X and HDMI2.0a/HDCP 2.2 in order to make it future proof... But I am avoiding any other kind of UHD/4K early adoption for now. By the way, the field is already getting crowded, and it seems this Panasonic DMP UB900, which also just came out, is going to give whatever Oppo releases, a run for its money:

There is too many that just have to say that they see or hear better posting online. I think they do it because they think they will look stupid if they don't because everybody does and no way they want to look like they do not see or hear better. Personally I think this notion that it is important for it to be bigger and better has got out of hand on the Forums.
