Of course, if it came with a single hdmi in and a single out, people would want more in/out options...and then complain if with wasn't the latest version that is not even out yet, and so on...(yeah, we know that would happen...HDMI does that to people...) Mark You kinda start 'chasing the round' after a certain point. HDMI would rock, tho. The big reason why I'm looking into this is more a as a headphone amp that'll work with my current configuration with my OPPO (which I'm using as a pre), more than anything. I'm fully balanced, so that's an issue. Being limited with the number of outputs on the OPPO pretty much sux. DJ Well, I have just seen the chase I referred to several times. Trust me, it is inevitable...really. And, if you just want a headphone amp, there are a lot of options. I am sure if you laid out your real needs, folks here would be very helpful in offering options. As is, you asked for a solution that is unrelated to headphones...so, you are not likely to get help on that issue until you spell out your needs. For example, if you just talked about headphones, I would mention the latest BasX little amp. But it does not have hdmi. Net, spell out your full needs... Maybe folks can help. Mark

Mark O ya, the two are unrelated. The BasX won't work because it's unbalanced, and the switchability of the OPPO isn't flexible enough for me to run it as a stand alone . I can't set the OPPO to play the parallel systems independently if I use the analog outputs - they both will run at the same time (through the speakers/through the headphones) which defeats the purpose of having headphones. The OPPO has optical and co-ax digital outputs, but You can only choose the HDMI output on the preamp for exclusive playback. There are 2 HDMI outputs that can be selected. So, if more headphone amps had inputs, then I wouldn't have an issue, and probably would already own one. The DC-1 will work, but I'll have to re-configure the system making the DC-1 the pre. The OPPO for being touted for it's flexibility, really isnt all that flexible as a pre. DJ

DJ Care to elaborate on this? Asking since I've been considering to get an Oppo as well, and use it as an all digital pream with digital out to my DSP unit. But what does it mean that it can't use the digital output for exclusive playback? Can you still use the volume control with digital out, for example?

You can use the digital outs to run external DACs, but you can choose only HDMI as an exclusive output option. So, in other words, you lose the ability to use the OPPO as a pre-amp if you use the optical output. At this point it just passes the signal along to another unit, presumably with a way to control the signal. Look, I love my OPPO, but the headphone section is weak, so adding an external amp is kinda necessary if I want to bring phone listening up to the sq level of the rest of the system.

DJ Great, thanks. Then the Oppo is not going to cut it for me. Here's to hoping Emotiva really delivers on the Stealth DC-2 - in the best of all worlds with hdmi!

Cool thing - and I LOVE the design! However, I suspect that I'm not in the target group here... Some of my guiding principles in audio are that a) crossovers should be active and preferably DSP-based (necessitates separate dac/pre and power amps, so no integrated amps for me) b) you can never have enough power for the bass (so 60W x2 isn't close to cutting it) c) I don't need higher resolution than 16-bit/redbook, so don't need the DSD functionality A small dac/pre thingy with balanced out like the DC-1 is all I need, basically.

Ideally what I'm looking for is an A-100 flex amp with a built in DAC with a HDMI input. That would end my search in an instant.
I guess, what I'm saying is an OVERKILL headphone rig with an option of a feww different types of inputs would be a game changer, and would seriously flatten everything that's out right now.

Ideally what I'm looking for is an A-100 flex amp with a built in DAC with a USB input. That would end my search in an instant. NAD had a couple products like this in their last generation of product. They now have full width components that are like this. Check them out.

The big problem I had was no specs were given for the headphone amp (which is kinda important to me). DJ

OK, so after doing more research I edited my posts above. Cripe, I've been doing so much reading about so many units that I've succeeded in completely confusing myself. I actually had to go out and play with the BDP-105 to actually see for myself what my options were vs just reading about them. It turns out that all of the USBs are input only, and my only real option for an input is HDMI.
So, apparently having a hq DAC with a multitude of inputs and ample power would be an important feature for the new DC-2 for those of us wanting to use it as a headphone amp.

But what do you guys think: is it likely that Emotiva will release a "DC-2" this year? I understand that all we can do is speculate, but still.

Ya, because I clearly want something that hasn't been invented yet (again). I've looked everywhere. DAC/headphone amp combos that accept HDMI don't exist.

Always a catch. I only need a 2 channel throughput, as that's how I listen with this system, it's just HDMI is the only way I can make it happen without total system re-configure. I might just suffer for awhile with what I have until what I'm looking for comes along. It seems like I'm trying to squeeze a square peg into a round hole. DJ
