Ya, already too many moving parts. This started out as a minimalist system, and has already grown beyond it's original intended size.

I owned the original version of the HDACC. Was very happy with mine!

One thing I like about this one is that it has digital outputs, so you have the option to basically do a digital pass through. Gives it more flexibility.

I dunno, I think more products need to move in this direction. Cohesive connectivity is a real deal breaker in many cases. I'm thinking I may make the leap on this one when the CC rolls this month. It'll be an early B-Day present for me . DJ

Great! They're now out of stock. O well, this gives me a little extra time to get the $ together, and gives them a little extra time to work any bugs out (if there are any) since it's a brand new model.

What is not completely clear to me from the Essence manual is whether the volume control only controls the headphone out, or also the other outputs - analog and digital. Any information on that?

It's my understanding that it's a fully functioning pre-amp, so my thinking is volume control works for everything. You can e-mail the Bob guy. He got back to me the same day. DJ

How do you like the Jotunheim? Been eyeing that, but waiting for DC-2 to see what Emotiva does.

Simply put. I love it. I'm sure the new DC-2 will kick ass, but I just couldn't wait. The headphone amp in the OPPO just wasn't gettin it, and the wife was bitching about me keeping her up at night with the 'noise'. I didn't want to sit on my hands for a months and months in anticipation when I could be enjoying a quality headphone amp/DAC right now.

So a lot of good suggestions here and thanks everyone for contributing. I have to ask a question though. As I read through the various post and things people are asking for I am puzzled about some things. Right now the unit has RCA inputs, XLR and RCA outputs, and various other digital inputs. The back panel is pretty much full. Where would you suggest I add 1/4" headphone jacks, additional analog inputs and outputs for HT bypass, an antenna for wireless and trigger in and out jacks? I'm not beating on anyone here, I am simply curious what you guys had in mind when you suggested them, thats all. Thanks, Lonnie Now if you can make that all fit in to the size of an iPhone that would be great.... Joking of course but there really are project managers out there who use Apple products as the reference on how large all boards should be. Never mind safety standards or the laws of physics.

The new DC-2 was posted on Instagram yesterday. Anxiously waiting on specs.. "emotiva_audio We are premiering the new DC-2 Precision DAC here at CES. We listened to your feedback on the highly popular DC-1 and added some highly desired features on this new product like a great headphone amp and Subwoofer output!" http://instagram.com/p/BdvhkZjD7Cs

"The new DC-2 offers significant upgrades to the acclaimed DC-1. For example, a new 32-bit AKM Verita internal..." That means DC-2 has AK4497 - new generation premium 32-bit DAC ?

Any info on the standalone balanced headphone amp that's supposed to be paired with the DC-2? No interest in the DC-2 but the headphone amp I'd consider pairing with my DC-1.
Shoulda offered crossover options for the DC-2. High pass filters would have made this thing really enticing to a lot of people.
