So for $1300, one can buy the Oppo 205 run straight into some good quality amps and out to great speakers and call it done for a 7.1 system and have it sound like the RMC-1. Hell, the wait is over. Wait...I thought the Oppo uses Sabre dacs. Yes....it does. OK, back to waiting for the RMC-1. How silly this hobby has become. Yes, one has to ask to what degree any new home theater processor would improve the movie watching experience. In other words, what does another $3,000 get you? Does the level of resolution require an additional speaker upgrade to notice a real difference? The same is often asked about restaurants; how much better is a $100 meal than a $50 meal? Depends on what kind of salt they use. Do foodiephiles have lengthy discussions about the technical aspects of the particular salt a restaurant chooses and whether there are golden tastebuds who could detect that in a double blind taste test? And then the thread gets locked? Oh, and it is not necessarily the kind of salt you use, but when and in what manner it is sprinkled on the food that makes the difference.

Well, with salt, depending on what you are cooking, this absolutely can actually make a big difference. Fact, not opinion.

just 2quick questions. can you connect a turntable directly to the xmc or by using a phono amp can the blue leds be turned into another color. The wife dislikes the blue color. If no other color is available, can the unit be used with all the blue lights off?

Then ask her whats for dinner! lol Some here have successfully disconnected the LEDs internally, others use black out or light reducing strips for this situation. Please don't follow my initial advice, would like to see you stick around here for a bit longer Regarding the turntable yes you can do both. Direct for MM and MC or use an input different from the Phono one and use your own.

If no other color is available, can the unit be used with all the blue lights off? The solution is to get a bigger house. Those who have taken this advise are still married to this day....you have been warned. Seriously, it actually has been shown that the blue LED light does interfere with some people's sleep cycles and hence have an inherent aversion to its' intensity. You can make the unit go completely dark when you're not pressing buttons just by turning down the brightness. If that's not enough, then make some space on the couch with a blanket and pillow and tell her her opinion doesn't matter, because women know nothing about high end audio!

ok guys. good advice. Glad to hear about both the lights and the phono. I was a little afraid that only the oled display could be put to dark. I personally have nothing against blue although I find that to many brands use this color. No matter what color the xmc would have for me it is to much when watching a movie in the dark. It is to much distraction

Depends on what kind of salt they use. Do foodiephiles <snip> Oh, and it is not necessarily the kind of salt you use... Actually, all salt is sea salt. Weather dehydrated from the ocean last week; or from a Devonian ocean 450 million years ago, buried, and dug out of a mile deep mine. Salt is NaCl. Alleged difference in salt taste or flavour is due to contaminants. Not unlike differences in tube sound, caused by contaminants like 2nd harmonic distortion. Contaminants or distortion can be a good thing... Sincerely, /b

Direct for MM and MC or use an input different from the Phono one and use your own. If we are talking about an XMC-2 which AFAIK is not available at this time, this may be a correct guess. If the OP means an XMC-1, there are no phono inputs. They are all line level so a phono pre is required.

Thank you Mick, I assumed that the XMC-1 would have included their excellent phono stage as it sounds excellent and requires x's more dollars to exceed if not just match. Surprisingly stunned.

if I order a xmc-1 at this moment when do you think it will be shipped? Or is it better to wait after cedia2027?

Considering that the new, but yet to be released, "V3" (2.0b) HDMI board is included in the price, and can be "self installed", there's no good reason to wait. They are not "built to order" and there is no mention of a backlog on the product page, so your order should ship within 24-48 hours. On the other hand, if you're interested in the Atmos/DTS-X upgrade, I would wait. At the price of the XMC-1 "plus upgrades", you may want to consider the XMC-2 (or whatever they decide to call it).

I doubt it that the ship within 24-48 hours. I mailed the international distributor for Belgium and The Netherlands and he told me that he could not at the moment get a hand on a xmc-1 and asked me to contact him again around September 15. Other products of Emotiva were no problem.

Perhaps someone can visit them next week at CES and then report back to the rest of us with news and updates. According to CTA they are in the Venetian 29-224/226.

Personally I think the XMC-2 is so far on the back burner with a huge queue of products well in front it.
Cheers Gary
