Only JL's cheapest sub is close to my price range. Any other suggestions? (I assumed you were suggesting JL Audio subs due to your signature.) Thanks! Chris

That cheapest sub the JL100E and JL112E are bargains do a search wit Stereophile and Absolute Sound Sorry, not finding anything with those model names. The cheapest on their website is the Dominion series, the D108-ASH, which is $799. That's pretty much the top of my price range, and I'd think for the same price, the Hsu ULS-15 MK2 or VTF-3 MK5 HP, both 15" 600W continuous/2000W peak subs, would perform better than JL's 200W 8" sub. If you have links to the subs you mentioned, please share. :-) Thanks! Chris

They had me at "tight, super-punchy bass." Are these sold in stores where I can go hear them? Thanks for the tip! Chris

On-line only, as far as I know. For their price, 2 would give you smoother bass than a single , more expensive single driver...and save you some coin. OMHO, this may be the one Big Dan is going to have to beat in a Base-X one-on-one bass throw down!
