I was hoping Emotiva would have posted some info on the DC-2 today but guess not? They only had working test-bed units and the software has a long way to go. It will be at least 6 months before we see anything. They RMC-1 will be ready before the DC-2. What I heard sounded great though and the DC-2 will bring enough to the table to make it a worthwhile wait for current DC-1 owners who want selectable filters, DSD, Home Theater bypass w/ Bass Management, higher bitrate support. I was told that it would have a slightly weaker headphone amp than the DC-1 but an SP1-like unit would be available to drive power-hungry headphones.

Well that makes it easier for me.
Thanks!

Did someone from emotiva quote the timing you mention or are you guessing? Just curious. It sounded to me that the only non-production aspect in the parts they had was the power supply, which Keith said they know what part they will use but just didn't have it yet. As for software, code for a DAC doesn't seem like a big deal (relative to the code for a processor, that is...) Mark

I've been on the fence between the Schiit JOTUNHEIM and waiting for the DC-2. If the DC-1 had a stronger headphone amp and 1/4 inch headphone jacks I'd would have already purchased it. It may seem like minor squabbles but it's important to me. How's the fulla? Well do what I did. Get the Basx A-100 to go with the DC-1. Fantastic stuff, all out overbuild for a headphone amp. Huge resolution. Even better with the limiting resistor jumpers off - if your headphones are high impedance.

Any mention of a trigger out for the DC-2 (sorry if it has already been mentioned). Thanks!!!

Shipping for the DC-1 is $275 whereas I can ship similar sized items from other companies (I can think of 2 off the top of my head) for much less. In addition Emotiva's Duties, Taxes and Fees's number is $199 I have no idea how they come up with those fees for a $499 product. So regardless if it's what I want, it's impractical. They are definitely not getting a good shipping rate and the taxes and fees numbers are from who knows where. I'm better off at this point looking elsewhere.

I sold my DC-1 a few month ago. One potential buyer (who made a ridiculously low offer) kept telling me the DC-2 was going to be available "any day now." People will say anything.
Appreciate the update from the festival.

Any tech details available? DAC chip?

Any tech details available? DAC chip? From Mark's Emofest post: "DC-2: Similar to DC-1 but includes new chips (AKM AK4490) that support 32 bit/384k and DSD. It is still a Delta-sigma DAC. Now includes selectable filters (exact # TBD). It will include the wifi unit discussed about internally (as an option most likely). It has bass MGMT (!) via an XLR sub out, fixed 80 Hz crossover, no high pass filter for mains (they always get full range). Form factor is same as DC-1 (but may be longer and display shape is different). The headphone amp is different than the one in the DC-1 (and not as powerful) – but a standalone very nice headphone amp is being considered. The DC-2 was displayed as a set of wired boards, but the design is nearly done. The prototype had a noisy power supply merely due to not having the final parts in hand, but that will change with the final version. Regarding MQA, it does not have MQA support. Dan sees the technical logic but is not yet convinced of the need for it yet. As he noted, he felt the same way about Atmos but changed his mind."

Appreciate the update from the festival. Lol. Well, isn't 6 months from now still ANY day now? One vibe I got from Dan was that he's the eternal optimist about release dates. I know release dates can be frustrating, but it's funny to see him on stage talking about one that is sooner than someone else is suggesting. I found the honesty refreshing. He demo'd the DC-2 for us and sounded very proud of it. I think he'd love to get it to market ASAP. I think they've worked hard to add features that people want.

Wow I can't believe it has a sub out and wifi. Does this mean it does DLNA or something? Anybody knows if it's dual AKM chips? This is going to be very interesting!

Hopefully dual AK4490. The AK4490 is a logical choice and has been implemented very well in the ADI-2 Pro without the 'Velvet Sound' characteristic being dominant. Sounds promising.

It's fully balanced, so I assume that means it has to have 2 chips. I may be wrong, but... As far as the wifi, I didn't get into details like DLNA, etc. But, they did say that if you have wifi and apps on a device that can send sound via wifi - you'll be able to send it to the DC-2 via that means. I specifically asked if I could send Tidal output to it from my MS Surface, and the answer was "yes" Mark

New Zealand I'll be brief so as not to clog up the thread, I use reshippers quite a bit, the common one being located in Portland which is a big international freight hub within non stop flying distance to Auckland and Sydney etc. Emotiva has free shipping to Portland, so I only have to pay the international freight. Most of the reshippers have on line quoting so you just punch in the dimensions and it will tell you how much the freight is. Consolidating shipments, which many reshippers offer, can be advantageous in reducing the combined freight cost. There is no duty to Australia for a lot of Emotiva gear due to the Free Trade Agreeement with the US and currently (but not for long) there is no GST for items under $A1,000. www.hopshopgo.comCheers Gary
