just read this from a vendor:
Oppo is out of 205's and have 1,000 203's left. Oppo said at the current rate, the 203's will not last through the weekend. Oppo said they have sold more 203's in the last two days than they sold for the month of march.

With OPPO out of the picture, who makes the best 4K player? I'm happy with the Sony X800, I couldn't distinguish any difference between it and the 203 using a mid range Samsung panel and a UMC-200, audio or video. It also plays SACD's if that's important. The only "issue" I had was that the default settings needed to be changed to what suited the Samsung and the UMC-200. As usual the manual isn't much help, so I did a bit of net surfing and found the tricks. Cheers Gary

Maybe Oppo has just learned the furniture stores old fake going out of business routine. Fake going out of business to boost sales, stay basically the same but change the name add under new management.

That Panasonic looks nice. Yes it does, my first blu-ray player was a Panasonic DMP-BD10A which I bought around 2007 when blu-ray won out over HD-DVD, it is still working fine and in use at my sister's house.

That Panasonic looks nice. This model is supposed to be replacing their current top of the line UB900 model.

Just for reference, the maximum data rate on an actual Blu-Ray disc is 54 mbps (that's HD - 1080p). You would need a data rate of at least twice that to ensure being able to stream a Blu-Ray disc at full quality without interruptions. Figure somewhere around double that for 4k video at "disc quality". For 1080p, that's assuming the same compression as Blu-ray. It's half that with H.265 instead of H.264 (as you already noted). Of course, that limits your playback hardware. Also, I think it's more the exception than the rule that a disc ever approaches the max data rate. 20-30Mbps is what I've typically seen. -tm

It’s under consideration, but not definite. See HERE for the official statement from Oppo.

I panicked and ordered a 203 from oppo to be delivered Apr 7. I don't even have a 4k tv yet but will probably get one on black friday 2018. Sorry to see oppo go. I guess I should send in my very old oppo 981 to get the display fixed. It slowly faded to black over the years.

Did you just purchase an Oppo 4K player? Did you purchase the extended warranty? Why? Why not?

Did you just purchase an Oppo 4K player? Did you purchase the extended warranty? Why? Why not? Is this a poll or a question for me? Yes, I moved up my purchase of the 203 solely because Oppo is going out of the disc player business. I did not buy an extended warranty because I do not expect the 203 to fail for a very long time.

Thanks for the reply, it was a general question to all those that purchased an Oppo recently. Do you think it requires its own thread?

Did you just purchase an Oppo 4K player? Did you purchase the extended warranty? Why? Why not?I did buy a 203 because they’re going away and I’ll have a UHD set in a month or two, I’ve also not been happy with other brands. I didn’t get the extended warranty because I don’t expect it to fail, and anything I buy with my Costco Visa Card gets its warranty extended by two years.
