Mine did Retry 1 and Retry 2 for the HDMI version install then said HDMI Fails and asked me to Reboot. Yesterday I went back again to V5.4B and it did complete the whole firmware update. Of course, I have no Dirac preset but still can be set with the XMC-1 app or the remote.

darien87 - I had the exact same problem until I updated the XMC-1 firmware to the current release. I do indeed have the latest 5.3 firmware. I've also noticed that the XMC display is telling me that it is seeing a 2160 video source even when it is getting a 1080 signal such as from a blu-ray from my PS3. Weird. And I recently got an 82" Samsung Q8 and it does not like the XMC. The 2 don't seem to handshake very well. I find that at least 50% of the time when I switch from watching TV to my PS3 or PS4 the Samsung TV doesn't even see the XMC as being turned on. I just get a blank screen that tells me to check to make sure the XMC is turned on. I've been able to solve this most of the time by turning the XMC off at the back of the unit to do a full reboot, but once even this didn't work.

Is that using the Samsung TV as the receiver or do have a satellite or cable box that you watch TV via? I'm running the original 4K software version, is that 5.0? I have found that when switching from another source (Apple TV4K, BDP etc) to the cable box that I have to wait a few seconds until the XMC-1 display appears on my Samsung before turning on the cable box. It's only when switching to the cable box, switching between other devices is never a problem. The order is; Turn off ATV4K Switch XMC-1 input to the cable box Wait a few seconds for the XMC-1 display to pop up on the Samsung screen Turn on the cable box It's programmed into my remote, so no big deal. Works every time, whereas if I don't wait or hot switch between inputs then it works around 60% of the time. Give it a try, it saves rebooting the XMC-1. On the 2160 displaying on 1030 content, that only happens when I upscale in the source, otherwise it shows the correct resolution. Some sources automatically check what the display is capable off and upscale accordingly. Check in the set up and make sure that you have upscaling turned off (if that's what you want). Cheers Gary

Cheers Gary By watching TV, I mean via my DirecTV cable box. I have 2 TV set-ups. I have 1 HDMI cable going directly to the TV for regular TV viewing and 1 going to the XMC for when I want surround. So when this happens seems to be when the XMC is not involved, (watching TV) and then gets turned on, (switching from TV - HDMI 1 on the Q8, to HDMI 2 - XMC). Once this happens switching sources doesn't seem to help only forcing the Q8 and XMC to handshake again by turning off the XMC. The sources I have connected to the XMC are: PS3 PS4 Nvidia Shield Sony 4k player Of these 4 devices the only one that never seems to have a problem is the Sony 4k player. In regards to the display I'm getting this with my PS3 and PS4. Neither are capable of 4k so it shouldn't be an upscaling issue.

In regards to the display I'm getting this with my PS3 and PS4. Neither are capable of 4k so it shouldn't be an upscaling issue. The magic word "DirecTV", they are a well know cause of HDMI and HDCP handshaking problems. I always use the XMC-1, everything goes via it, hence only the one connection to the Samsung TV. From memory HDMI 2 on the Samsung is the ARC /CEC enable input, so it may pay to turn them off (if they are on) and see if that helps.. Did I read it right that your DirecTV isn't connected to the XMC-1 at all? You could connect it to the XMC-1 and have it as the default source, that way you can still watch it even when the XMC-1 isn't turned on (it just passes the signal through to the TV). Otherwise getting past the DirecTV handshaking issue may be a simple matter of trying some different orders of turning on/off. A few suggestions (that you may have already tried); Turn off the DirecTV (with its remote) Wait until the Samsung TV shows no input (that will confirm that the handshaking has stopped) Then switch inputs and turn on the XMC-1 (are you using the fast start?) That's pretty much guaranteed to work but adds time while the XMC-1 boots up. Have you tried swapping the HDMI inputs around, use HDMI for the DirecTV? FWIW I also have a Sony 4K BDP an X800 and similarly it hasn't given me any problems at all with the XMC-1. Just the cable box has to have "special" treatment. Cheers Gary

I have my DirecTV box hooked up directly to the TV via HDMI and also to the XMC. The Q8 never seems to have a problem with the DirecTV box whether the signal is coming directly from the cable box or through the XMC. It also doesn't seem to have an issue with the Sony 4k player. The Nvidia Shield seems to work fine most of the time also.
The devices that seem to almost always have issues are the PS3 and PS4 which are connected to the XMC.

30 mins ago got from Lonnie V5.4B2, did the firmware update and Dirac is back, HDR banding is still gone and everything is working as it should be. I will be doing more testing during the weekend, like the DTS 5.1 audio issue and startup black screen but at this point looks like all the critical issues are fixed. Thanks Lonnie and the team for all the time you guys have dedicated to resolve these bugs.

Now I can finally install my V3 board that I have had for 3 months sitting in its box. I've held off installing it because if the kinks didn't get worked out I didn't want to have a wonky XMC as it has been flawless since I got it. great job everybody.

View AttachmentView AttachmentLike Enrico, I've been running v5.4beta2 for a few hours now and I would agree. It now appears that "banding" is a thing of the past, DIRAC is now back in the Speaker Preset's and Input menus and DTS-HD MA 5.1 now defaults to "Surround" in the Auto setting for 5.1 mode. As of now this beta firmware is the most solid version I've used, and I've not run into any of the old bugs nor have I found any new ones.

Looking forward to this release becoming generally available and that it solves the 5.1 surround default issue

I’ve also received the 5.4 “beta 2” firmware and have been running it all evening. I can also confirm everything that Enrico and LC have stated above. I can’t say whether this will be the “magic bullet” for everyone, but this firmware is solid...

Looking forward to this release becoming generally available and that it solves the 5.1 surround default issue Ironically I found this bug in the v5.4beta1 firmware when apparently it is/was present in v5.3 and mainly because I've only been playing UHD blu-ray movies with DTS-X/Atmos and these display correctly. My experience with DTS-HD MA 5.1 tracks defaulting to "Reference Stereo" was just a display error and wasn't really in that DSP mode. Is this what you've been experiencing?

Well, when I attempted to adjust the volumes on the surrounds with the XMC remote when running 5.1 BluRay, my XMC reported the surrounds were not available. No issues with 7.1 surround. So, my XMC is reporting 5.1 but, treating it like stereo and not recognizing the other channels

I was undecided if I should get the RMC-1 since the XMC-1 was having problems when I first installed it. But since Emotiva works so hard to fix the problem and hearing great things of the audio quality on the oficial forum I will be ordering one on January.

I report that after less than hour the unit has been disconnected, it was running featuring the new hmdi board with 4k inputs. Upgrade went flawlessly. Sony projector is fed with a 10m cable.

I have been running v5.4 beta 2 for a few days now but still no luck with my syncing issue with comcast X1 set top box. No matter what I try, I cannot get video to pass through w/o power sequencing or switching inputs. Audio comes through, but no video. Any thoughts/suggestions on this issue is appreciated.
