I called Emotiva about my bad board and talked with Grayson who wanted to check further with Keith and/or a tech. He called me back a short time later saying they are sending out a replacement board and call tag for the old one. Overall a pleasant experience. Hopefully my new board will be here in a day or two and I'll have better luck with it. Maybe let the wife install that one?

Cable length and type will make all the difference in the world when it comes to 4K HDR. At 18Gig we find anything longer then 6 feet is an iffy proposition. We use our HDBASE-t TX and RX for the projectors and can easily run 150 feet. But on a standard copper HDMI cable, well that is another story and as for the optical cables, well that is even more of a hot mess. None of them are approved because they all draw their power off of the HDMI PCB which is not allowed. In fact we have one here that draws so much juice that it actually sucks the HDMI board dry and the processor lock up. Now if they had an external power supply it would be great, but I haven't seen one yet. Lonnie Here's a little unknown tidbit for anyone looking for a good HDMI cable. The Belkin Ultra High Speed cable was developed in partnership with us (think Cupertino fruit company). It uses micro-coaxial for the TMDS, instead of the traditional twisted pairs. It is spec'ed to run up to 48 Gbps.

I wish there were longer variants, but physics.

Just a general update here.
We have addressed pretty much all the things that have been brought up with the individual customers. Now there is still a few things we are following up on.
Direct TV. We have new hardware coming in so we can test.
Bit depth resolution on the front panel. Right now we are reading the info frames for this information and for the most part that works, but in special cases it gets it wrong. So we are looking into this.
Looking into the XBOX as well.
The Apple TV is a real puzzle. It works just fine here, so far we haven't been able to figure out why a couple of people are having trouble. But we are working on it.
So if you run into any kind of weirdness with the above, just know we are working on it.
Oh one other thing. Computer video cards are a whole other issue. We are preparing a post to explain what 18 gig is and what is supported within that frame work that I think will help.

I wish there were longer variants, but physics. Exactly, I agree. Thus the limitation of HDMI as well. It also uses micro coax which limits how far you can go for high data rates. Still, its good to know and thanks for sharing. Lonnie

Lonnie, what's the current turnaround time for those of us who are planning to send in our units to have the board replaced? I'm not sure what the official statement is, but I believe we are caught up on all in house units. It takes a couple of days for a us to update the code, replace the board and re-certify it through the line. I do know that when one comes in they move right into the production line for retrofit along side of the new units being built. In short, we are making every effort to turn then in a couple of days upon arrival but I think the front office is being more conservative in their responses to people. Lonnie Mine was 3 days from the official release, it was there a couple of days before then but that shouldn't count. Question for Lonnie, if mine was upgraded last Thursday will it come with 5.0 or 5.1? I assume 5.0 since 5.1 is beta? Cheers Gary

Oh, a couple of other things to note.
The OSD Wide and Color selection was removed deliberately. If you run Dolby Vision the color mapping gets all whacked for OSD and if you had certain color combinations selected, the video chips would crash trying to merge the OSD over the live DV stream.
The Wide was removed because the new chips use a different form of scaling to account for the different resolutions and was no longer valid.
Lip sync is always assumed to be Auto unless you set it to a specific amount of time.
Hope this helps,
Lonnie

Like I explained to you over email, with the old board I had HDMI6 + Analog 1 for my Bluesound Node 2 which has no video out but even without any HDMI signal coming in I was able to see OSD when listening to music with a black screen. That option is now gone. Could it be possible to bring it back with a firmware update?

The Apple TV is a real puzzle. It works just fine here, so far we haven't been able to figure out why a couple of people are having trouble. But we are working on it. It may be a combination of Apple TV with LG C7 TV. At least that seems to be the combination giving a few people headaches. How do I get the 5.1 update to test this out? Also, have you looked at why the double 5.0 update is fixing some issues? My HDMI version is currently blank in the info section. I can run the 5.0 update again but am worried about it breaking something else (some are saying it breaks HDR).

Lonnie On the Oppo 203 it always get the bit depth wrong... 8 bit for all HDR movies... it's correct on Dolby Vision. Re: Auto Sync.. so if you set to no audio sync delay it is auto?? I am having some odd HDR issues with AppleTV too. If I'm using netflix and select an HDR movie I don't get HDR, yet the netflix and even AppleTV home screens are outputting HDR. Really odd. Am getting some Dolby Vision with the Amazon Prime app, but again, HDR programs don't show me the HDR flag and show 8 bit. Perhaps it's time to call an exorcist. mel

You should go straight to V5.1. After flashing my XMC-1 with V5.1, I got all my HDR and sound issues fixed for good.

Adding my experience to the group. -Got v3 board this weekend. -installed 5.0 -changed board out and restarted -HDR did not work on Oppo UDP-203, Zidoo X9s media player, PS4 Pro, Apple TV 4k -updated to 5.1 and rebooted all devices -HDR and DV work on Oppo, Zidoo, Apple TV -PS4 Pro shows HDCP to be 1.4 and won't output in 4k or HDR.....If I connect straight to my TV (LG OLED E6 65") with the same cable, it works fine. Movies and TV are at least a go, but for gaming I'm back to direct-to-TV and optical audio to XMC-1 (makes it so audio is only 5.1 and compressed) Glad to have the board working for most sources though!!! I'll have to double check my PS4 pro again when I get home. (I even have it going through the VR setup) I could have sworn I was running 4K but I got caught up in troubleshooting issues with my Tivo Bolt all weekend. I have confirmed that the Ps4 pro only reports HDCP 1.4 and ot 1080p but does HDR. Any issues with Xbox S or X owners?

I was back in the lab earlier today and we switched to an input that had nothing connected to it and it was fine. The TV showed no signal as it should and when you select Menu, it popped up and worked fine. So my question is this. If you select an HDMI input that has nothing connected, does the OSD work on yours? Then switch to the analog input that has your Bluesound and tell what happens. Lonnie

At least in theory, that should not be needed and even if done should not make any difference, but this is where theory and reality depart. While I don't have an explanation as to why, if it works it works. Lonnie

In this picture I had the Sony VPL-HW40ES projector (1080p) on HDMI OUT 2 and the LG 27UK650 Monitor (4K/HDR) on HDMI OUT 1. As you can see only the Sony HW40ES is showing OSD when there is no active signal coming in: In this picture I switched HDMI outs and the Sony projector is on HDMI OUT 1 and the LG 27UK650 on HDMI OUT 2. Now I get OSD on the LG 27UK650 and no OSD on the Sony projector. This is still with no video signal coming in: In this picture I have video signal coming in and I get OSD on both displays: Here is with the Sony HW40ES projector disconnected and the LG 27UK650 on HDMI OUT 2. No video signal coming in: Here is with the Sony HW40ES projector disconnected and the LG 27UK650 on HDMI OUT 1. No video signal coming in: In conclusion, there is no OSD on HDMI OUT 1 when there is no active signal coming in. Right now, if you have one display only, you should connect it on HDMI OUT 2 in order to get OSD on inputs with no active video signal coming in.
