The ultrarendu (UR) has arrived, along with the 7v power supply from small green computer.
I hooked it up, sat down on the couch with my Surface Pro 3, set it up to use Roon Ready, and within a couple minutes from plugging it all in - music was playing. Neither m tube amp nor the UR/power supply were warmed up but I went straight for the Dead's Ripple. To my amazement, I actual heard more definition out of the multiple voices singing harmony. Before it's always sounded like 2 of the voices are almost identical, but I immediately heard separation between them. Went to Linda Ronstadt's Poor Poor Pitiful Me and some Carole King. Again, more clarity and depth to the vocals was obvious. And, I think I am hearing deeper bass.
And, all that is with me coming off some sinus issues that have clogged my ears a bit the last couple days.
For now, I'm setting it aside until tomorrow AM and will commence more extended listening then. I'll compare the UR to the MR as well as swap around power supplies.
For that, I'll start a separate thread.
Anyway - so far - very impressed.
Mark

Seriosly. Congrats. Glad the setup is sounding good to you. Just don't be too complimentary with the mR to uR comparison. I don't have the funds for the uR.

I was trying to down-play the improvement I heard going from MR to UR because I didn't want to color your perception, but it is quite something to hear and actually much better sounding.
IMO, YMMV, Everyone is different, Kumbaya and Whatever Gets You Through The Night. Are there more disclaimers I need to add?

Thanks to threads like this, I bit the bullet on Small Business Saturday and ordered the ultraRendu. Can't wait to try it, and my audiophile wife will be the ultimate judge in a blind test (I'm pretty sure she'll be sold on everything I read).

The only issues I have with Roon (other than cost) are that: - I have noticed that occasionally my Surface Pro 3 loses connection to my Roon core (using the surface as a controller). When it has happened, it's been for a very short period of time. I'm talking a second or so. - I put the Roon Core on a PC that sometimes take a few minutes to connect to the hard drive I have my ripped library on if the PC has been shut down. I really need to move that hard drive to being hung off my server, and that will solve the issues that cause that (as well as allow me some other options with that hard drive). Mark These are some of the reasons why I suggest creating a dedicated music server. I built a PC-based platform that is always on and does nothing but host my server and music files. No delay, no latency, no waiting for something to boot, spin up or connect. Once I put a 2Tb SSD in my Windows 10 PC, I've been very happy with it running Roon. It worked A-OK previously, but it's so damn fast now, and very quiet (one CPU fan and one power supply fan). Granted, I do have 32Gb of memory in the beast and solid networking.... (I'm an Info Security guy, so I know my way around a PC)
