mountain thanks for confirming. That seems to be the key. The view of Tidal within Room does not show exact copies of albums I have on a NAS. It does show alternate versions like remasters. See above back and forth with sahmen and I from last night. Now that I know this, it is not really an issue. Seems to be designed into how Room works and reduces duplication. Mark

Thanks - I'll give that a closer look when I get home tomorrow. I don't recall it asking me about jump starting my library with Tidal Collections. It merely had me add Tidal as a service from what I recall. But, I can still go back and try. I'm also going to contact Roon about what I'm seeing. It really seems that what I described is the reason I can't find the Oscar album in question on Roon's Tidal. I cross checked this with several artists and each time I have something from an artist on my NAS, it does not show in Roon's "Tidal Albums" or any other route I have looked to find the album on Roon Tidal. Yet, they are all there with PC Tidal. Providing what I think is happening is true, it's really not an issue because I have a quality copy of what I need via my NAS. But, it will be nice to confirm w/Roon. Mark

If you have it in your library Roon will ignore it on Tidal since it will give local files preference.

I also don't have an NAS. Quite honestly, my PC's 3TB hard drive is more than enough storage for about 30,000 songs all ripped to FLAC. And a bunch of DVDs too.

I have the iFi PSU. It definitely has a different sonic signature than the Teddy Pardo I also have. The iFi is a little harsher in the treble. I can say that I enjoy rock music more through it. The iFi has more PRAT. The Teddy Pardo is much smoother in the teble. Sounds much better for Jazz. What I don't like is that my MicroRendu runs at a higher temperature with the iFi. The mR is very hot to the touch when I used the iFi with the mR. In doing research this has something to do with the USB implementation of the DAC and I have not tried it with EITR. I am currently running the same thing and mine runs hot. No way i could leave it in a cabinet.

OK - so even though you don't have a NAS, you have files on hard drive storage and I presume you have Roon looking to them (correct?)...please confirm that you do not have We Get Requests on one of those hard drives. (Doesn't really matter if it's an external drive like my NAS or one built into a folder Roon is looking to on any hard drive in your network). Thanks, Mark

I re-checked and it seems like what I said is happening is indeed happening. If I have a particular album on my hard drive, Roon's version of Tidal will not show it even though the PC version does (consistent w/what dyohn says a few posts above). That is applying across a wide range of artists. It's not big deal really now that I know that's what's happening. But, it is confusing at first. I will send a note to Roon to make sure what I think is happening is indeed the case. (EDIT: Note sent...likely will hear back in a day or so) Mark

Question for users of Roon with a microRendu who also use MQA files.I noticed when looking closer at the setup within Roon that in the audio setup tab, there's an "MQA Capabilities" button, with choices as below. By default, mine was set at "No MQA Support" but when I played an MQA file with Roon, my LH Labs DAC showed the higher sample rate (96k vs. 48). I've seen people talking about "1st vs. 2nd unfold" on MQA. Is that what the other choices are about? To maximize audio quality of MQA from the microRendu, what setting should I choose and is there any risk to choosing certain ones? Thanks! (PS - in looking for info on this and the "oscar" concern, it looks like my LH Labs Geek x-infinity is a Roon-ready endpoint on its own. Interesting... may have to try that. EDIT: Tried it and it works! Now, I'll have to listen to my PC outputting "roon ready" to my Geek to see if that's at all different than usual setup!) Mark

One thing which might differentiate my situation from yours is that I tend to rip my CDs into Apple lossless (ALAC) formatted files. Now since Tidal does not seem to store any of its files in ALAC, Roon tends to pull up the same versions of the albums from Tidal because they are formatted in FLAC, rather than ALAC, as well as those that are formatted in MQA and what not... If the Albums stored on your NAS are Flac-formatted, then you're likely to see fewer Tidal duplicates than I do, as Roon will not pull them up for you. Mine are indeed 100% FLAC on my NAS. Speaking of MQA, the other thing I did notice was that in Tidal on my PC, there's a tiny little "M" icon that shows for the MQA version. In Roon, I just end up seeing 2 versions in the list of albums and there's no clear identifier that I can see to show which is MQA. But, when I click on each, I can tell as there's into that shows it is MQA or not. (And it was nice to see my Geek show "96K" playing George Benson Breezin' in MQA! Sounded very good.) Mark UPDATE: I found how to get the "MQA" vs. "CD" version to show up in Roon. It's in "settings", "general", "show album format on browser". Now, as soon as I see versions of an album, I can easily find the MQA version if it exists. Mark

Mark The short answer seems to depend on whether you have an MQA (and DSD) capable DAC or not... Ironically, it seems easier if you do not, because in that case you do not really have to do anything as Roon itself will do all the decoding or unfolding, conversion, and feed the resulting PCM signal to your DAC for you (My Yggy is neither MQA nor DSD compatible, but it plays all those files, thanks to Roon, without my having to do any configuring) As far as I can tell, it is only when you have an MQA capable DAC that you need to review the device set up in order to determine whether the settings selected by Roon are correct, or whether you need to do some configuring manually... In either case, you have to ensure that you have Build 320 of Roon************ Long version : See whether these passages from the Roon-MQA FAQ Page are helpful in addressing any of your concerns, as they apply to your own situation. Of course you can find even more info on the Roon/MQA page it self, which is cited below: source: kb.roonlabs.com/Roon_x_MQAHow does Roon handle MQA content?Roon has partnered with MQA Ltd to properly support decoding and handling MQA files and streams end to end. This new feature allows all Roon users – those with MQA-capable hardware and those without – to experience MQA content to the fullest extent possible with their audio hardware.Where can I get MQA content? If you have a TIDAL HiFi subscription, check out the Masters section on Roon’s TIDAL page. There is some sample content available at the 2L Test Bench. See the full list of MQA service partners. ##Do I need to do anything to activate Roon’s MQA support? Check to make sure that your Roon Core and Remote are running Build 320.If you have an MQA capable DAC or other audio device, double-check the Device Setup screen for that zone to make sure that Roon is reflecting your DAC’s MQA capabilities correctly. Some audio devices do not support auto-detection of their MQA capabilities, so in those cases you may need to configure the device manually.
Can I use DSP with MQA content in Roon?Yes. Roon is the only music player that seamlessly integrates DSP with MQA content, while preserving your MQA DAC’s ability to fully render the post-processed stream. ****I have an MQA DAC, how does DSP work in Roon? First, Roon will decode the MQA file or stream to an MQA Core stream. This produces a PCM audio stream at 88.2kHz or 96kHz which contains MQA signalling information that your DAC needs to render the MQA signal properly. Then Roon preserves the signalling information (setting it aside for safe keeping), applies DSP to the audio portion, and then restores the signalling information. This re-embeds it into the stream so that your DAC can complete the rendering process. ***I don’t have an MQA DAC, how does DSP work in Roon?First, Roon will decode the MQA file or stream to an MQA Core stream. This produces a PCM stream at 88.2kHz or 96kHz. Then, any selected DSP is applied to that stream, and the output is sent to your DAC.
How do I tell an MQA album from a non-MQA album? You can tell when an album is MQA in Roon by looking at the format information on the album screen just below the cover art. If you would like to see detailed format information throughout the app, enable the “Show album format on browser” setting in Settings->General.How do I know when I am listening to MQA content?Information about the content you are listening to and the playback chain is always available by accessing Roon’s Signal Path. **************** PS... It is probably because I do not have an MQA capable DAC, I do not understand the jargon of the MQA "unfolds", even though I have also run across them a few times

Thanks guys...this link I found just now is the clearest info I found on MQA decoding/rendering. --->SEE THIS LINK!!!<--- So much of most links speaks in "jargon" that it's not understandable by typical humans. I'll try Roon with the MQA decoder and renderer enabled next and see what it does. I'll try it through the microRendu as the Roon endpoint, as well as my Geek as endpoint. Mark

Where do I find the build version of Roon? 👂I don't know, but if I read correctly on the Roon community pages - it's Roon 1.5 which was made public May 3, 2018. Since I downloaded it afterward, I think (hope?) I have it. The fact that I have the option from the image I shared gives me hope. I'll go look later. Mark

Where do I find the build version of Roon? 👂Nick (and Mark): Go to Roon Settings ==>> General, and the Click "About" in the top right-hand corner of the page . That will pull up all the technical info about the Latest version of Roon that you have. I got this, and it says I have the latest version of Roon (1.5 Build: 334, 64bit):
