Just to answer that question...... I bought a CD just last week. And I have another one on order right now. (I believe it's due for release at the end of the month.)
And I can play the one I bought last week anywhere I want to... even if my Internet connection is down... and even if Tidal goes bust. And, last night, I played the Japanese release of one of my favorite albums... the one with the two bonus tracks that aren't on the US version. I have both versions. I wonder which one Tidal has. (I'll bet they don't have both.)
Now, just to be totally candid, I have nothing against download FILES rather than shiny plastic discs. I just insist on OWNING my music (or, at the very least, owning a license, and possessing a physical copy). I just don't like renting.

Then why don't you scrap those old fashioned tubes and get on the Class D train? Class D is the way of the future. Who cares if you like tubes. Tubes do nothing but add distortion, so why would any intelligent person want that. Tubes are fragile, and are a pain for people who have pets and kids. You should be ridiculed for still using tubes. From now on everytime you bring up tubes someone here should post "what's a tube?" Of course I'm not serious. That's just my example of exactly what you are doing in terms you might understand. |

HE has much insight and years and years and years, (your old audiobill LOL,) of experience building gear and playing music. He is a mentor to many here including myself. He has the same rights as YOU and I when sharing our opinions. Theres more then a couple of times we’ve all voiced an opinion MORE then once. 😋 or twice,,,,,LOL OR,,,,,,,, Lets show each other more respect then this. I buy both CDs and Digital Download (usually High Resolution and never lossy compressions) on a regular basis. I never stream.

And from those bargain bins I am buying the ones I want as fast as possible. Ripping them into JRiver, upsampling them with SoX to 32/768 and sending them directly to a RME ADI-2 DAC -- where they sound better than the expensive high-res files I buy from HD Tracks. And much better than Spotify streams (haven't tried Tidal yet, but have no reason to).
Am up to 2500 so far (pop and classical) and still buy new and used from Amazon. Store them in Ikea cabinets that are perfect for those unused hallways. And when I need the texts, or want to try another file format, they are right there.
They look good, too.
Talk with my local new/used outlet and CDs are not going away and becoming more popular in some countries. Think that once the downsides of streaming become all too real, the format will return.

I have a huge collection of CDs, many of which cannot be found anywhere but in a small group of people’s collections. I spin my ERC-2 pretty often as well as LPs but you/I wouldn’t know it lately by all the chatter about mini PCs and net players,,,,,he,,,,he,,,, I just don’t see his remarks as you do. I’ll leave it at that. Enjoy the music. |

I stream when I don't care much about how it sounds, I play CDs when I want to enjoy, really enjoy those songs I love, boom!!!!

I'm the same way with movies. At some point the older movies/music will no longer be streamed and then you're porked when you want to listen/watch.
I'm not anti-streaming at all and have been looking to educate myself on some options for the 2 ch room. I love the fact that you can dig up all sorts of odd music on tidal, spotify et al.

I agree! I want the physical copy with the artwork/liner notes, etc. I am always on the "hunt" for hard to find, out of print and obscure releases that I am after. I just bought 12 CD's this week from all over the net and usually buy 1 or 2 every week. I rip them all into my Bluesound for the wife to stream where ever she is in the house. I spin the CD's in my 2 channel music room and enjoy the artwork, etc. I have never bothered to stream the Bluesound through my 2 channel rig (just not interested) even though it is hooked up. |

I wonder how much that 9 percent is diluted because people buy CD's, rip them, then sell them resulting in many people who buy them prefer to buy them used.
I bought a couple of CD's not long ago, and intend to buy a couple more today. I like Indie (modern day alternative) and prefer to buy CD's from the artists directly if I can.
