I think the difference in DACs and ‘fully balanced’ channels are described pretty well in the language tchaik quoted above your post. The key is to focus on the ‘dual mono’ part of the configuration, and the ‘all channels are fully balanced’. I think you’re making the right decision as the XMC-2 is at the sonic sweet spot. The differences in the RMC models are more esoteric, with the exception of the 1’s expansion bays. Heres a post in the comparison/poll thread where Keith also some sit up pretty simply emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/999247/threadThanks. I am just trying to make sure that any potential/future buyer of the XMC2 Or RMC1/L has the right information. Emotiva may need to clarify the product description for the XMC2. It’s confusing to say all channels are fully balanced under the description, then in the feature list state... XMC2- “Audiophile grade AKM4490 Verita DACs (operating in fully balanced Mono mode for the three front main channels)” RMC1’s feature list states... RMC1- “Audiophile grade AKM4490 Verita DACs, operating in fully balanced Mono mode, on all 16 Main Zone outputs. (Independent AKM4490 DAC for Zone 2.)” So the XMC2 is fully balanced but not all channels are in this mono mode? Clear as mud for me 😂 Well, many of us were a bit confused to learn that all three models were fully balanced on all channels. The way I would think of it is that dual/fully balanced mono mode is a DAC configuration that may sound better, but doesn’t make it any more ‘balanced’. If you want the dirty details, I compiled them into a single post in the comparison/tire kicker’s thread <HERE>

Bit different to other units then? I was told as long as i used my dirac account and logged n it would pick up i paid $99 for the upgrade? If you were told by Dirac and/or Emotiva, then you’ve answered your own question. Nothing has definitively been stated by Emotiva or Dirac here on the Lounge so I’d be definitively asking those in the know if you haven’t already. Thanks for that, it was a question asked by a interested party on my nad for sale thread elsewhere.

Does anyone know what crossover slopes the xmc2 uses? Are the slopes user selectable?

Does anyone know what crossover slopes the xmc2 uses? Are the slopes user selectable? This is from the manual ... “The Size screen will enable you to configure the sizes, crossover frequencies, and crossover slopes for your speakers, the configuration of your Rear Surround speakers, and the configuration of your subwoofers.”On the XMC-1 you can switch between 12 & 24 dB / octave (this is from memory, not at home)

I have a few other questions. 1. can a wireless dongle but connected to one of the usb ports? I don't have a hard wired network connection available in the room where I would place the xmc2. 2. Does it allow both height and top speakers to be configured for atmos/dts:x? in my current setup with a marantz 7705, I have front height and top rear. 3. Most subwoofers don't have a xlr connection. Are people just using converter cables to get their subwoofers connected?

I think there are some WiFi network extenders, that also have a wired connection, that might be a solution. 2) I’m just about to start with Atmos, someone else should answer this. 3) Yes

I’m confident that the XMC2 will exceed my expectations. I wish I had an XMC1 and RMC1 to compare to but at least I can give a solid review of the XMC2 😊.

For example can you specify the width channels as height leaving L/R subs/height for L/R subs.

Do you mind explaining your question? I’m going to be new to Atmos so I’m curious as to what you are talking about. It comes down to what configuration of speakers best fits your particular room. In my case, width speakers are not an option, so I would like to use 6 height speakers (actually ceiling). At the same time I would like to take advantage of the L/R sub option. Therefore I would like to use the "width" outputs as height. The flexibility in configuring the outputs from my perspective is about fitting to a particular room and speaker set-up.

I understand now thank you. I don’t think it’s configurable but you have 9.1.6 so if you have 6 ceiling speakers, the XMC2 supports it. It was pretty eye opening to see just how few manufacturers support 9.1.6. I’m looking at 5.1.4. Even 7.1.4 or 7.1.6 present challenges for me personally.

I hope we get some photos when you unbox, and then more info as you setup! 🤓 One area of particular interest will be what version of Firmware it’s running.

I’m hoping it’s there when I get home and not back at UPS. I can certainly take pictures and yes I’m very interested in the firmware version too. My family room is a mess bc is e had our house painted so I gotta clear up a lot of stuff before I can get it going. I’ll see if I can push everything in a corner so u can listen to something tonight 😊.

I respectfully disagree about priorities, if they would have stayed home from work, then I would agree. I have to wait until Thursday for mine, luckily I work from home! I am also looking forward to initial reviews etc.
