Indeed.....
I will mention something else here... since nobody else seems to have mentioned it.
If you're using "two subs on a Y-cable" you don't need a MiniDSP to time align them. That's what the "phase" control you'll find on most subs is for ("phase" is just another aspect of time).
You want to play a test tone or some music with low bass through both subs.... Then adjust the phase controls on one or both so that you have the MOST bass AT THE LISTENING POSITION.... At that point your subs are "time aligned".
Note that technically you can only time align two subs perfectly for one frequency and one listening position. However, because of the low frequencies and long wavelengths involved, it isn't all that fussy.
The "alignment" is also going to be more precise if you have two of the same brand and model of sub. Technically, the "phase" adjustment on most subs isn't exactly a pure frequency independent time shift, which is what MiniDSP should be allowing you to do.
However, you'll find that it generally works pretty well.... and works a lot better than NOT doing it.
You should obviously level match the subs first as well. And you shouldn't fiddle with this after running Dirac (or doing any sort of overall room correction) because it will alter the results.
There is supposedly going to be some improved bass management in Dirac 2.0 and then the upgraded bass management from Dirac at an additional cost sometime later. XMC-1 allowed two subs to be connected, but measured them separately which did not give optimal results. Better implementation was to put the two subs on a Y connector to run together and get Dirac correction on the combined output. Or even better ... use a MiniDSP to time align and gain match the two subs on a single output. I just confirmed my XMC-1 to XMC-2 upgrade and will ship the XMC-1 back early next week. I figure I can use my OPPO 205 to handle music listening and AppleTV in stereo until I get the XMC-2, and then make some REW PEQ filters to tame room modes until Dirac ships. Great point, and I do wish I had phase adjustment on my subs. I use the MiniDSP to incorporate not only the two subs but also a Magnepan DWM. Subs work below 45Hz, and DWM from 45-200Hz. In this way my surrounds and center speakers cross to the DWM first for bass down to 45 and then the subs below 45. I use REW measuring at the MLP to see the alignment and get them to be aligned at the crossover point (45Hz). I can also level match all three. And yes, once aligned I run Dirac and leave them alone. Works great!

Thanks for clarifying, Keith.

I'm now officially an owner!
Good timing for inbetween Movie Night! events. As Navin R. Johnson famously said in "The Jerk", "Things are going to start happening to me now" after finding his name in the phone book which results in "spontaneous publicity".

Do you actually have the unit yet or just ordered it? I received my email on the trade in the this morning. Trying to decide if I go now or hold.

I paid for it (this makes me an owner) so now I'm waiting for the label to be able to send my XMC-1 to Emo. I decided a couple weeks ago to go for it. The key issue for me is the super duper holy smoly mega fantastico DACs in Differential Mono Mode for the LCR channels, and for future ATMOS which I "say" I'm going to do much later, but we all know how that usually works out (sooner than later).

The AppleTV is rather quirky in general... We've gotten that mostly sorted out with the new firmware - which will be coming our shortly. The same fixes may or may not apply to the Fetch TV box (we don't see those on this side of the big pond).
Hopefully they will help significantly.
Keith, I have had some similar issues using an Apple TV 4K, but not quite as bad as the OP here has it. Funny, but my Apple TV 4K has been trouble-free (my TV hiccups when I back out of apps but that's about it) - my troubles are with the DirecTV Genie 4k box (lose sound when switching back to it, almost always needs a cold restart) and my PS4 Pro (would not output any sound when the input was set to HDMI 2.0, had to output directly to TV and use optical from the TV to get 2180p).

I reckon if you did a search Direct TV boxes would be the #1 cause of HDMI/HDCP connection failures closely followed by PS4's. Cheers Gary

Dirac is going to be bloody brilliant or it's going back, and seeing I am in Australia, the shipping and duty will mean I will be over $500 out of pocket Any *please wait* ideas? That's a bummer mate ; like vagabond and I said back home "As vagabond says the XMC2 has some glitches ;ide wait for the next firmware upgrade to see how it goes". Understand its easy to be wise in hindsight though and its a calculated risk[ due to an ocean of course ] for a potential pay off You could always ditch the fetch and get a beyonwiz ; they have got a much longer pedigree on the market and you can switch source direct which helps with syncing possibly .. Or get a chromecast for streaming ? Hang in for the 1.8 firmware

Here are the bugs I'm hoping to see resolved in the next firmware release I'm on 1.7
Loud Buzz (sometimes I get a really loud buzz sound when watching TV my source is a comcast DVR) 5.1 SACD's showing DSD 5.1 source on the XMC-2 but XMC-2 will only play back in DSD stereo When first switching to a input set to default to direct or stereo it sometimes plays in dolby surround (a quick input switch and back fixes this)

You are right about that last comment. I got Atmos way sooner than I thought. Hopefully Dirac will be available soon too.

I have an unusual problem with my XMC-2 and I wondered if any of you had experienced anything like it that might help me determine what is going on. I use an iMac with the Audirvana music program. A Synology NAS handles the music files and a microRendu is connected by ethernet to the network and by USB to the XMC-2. When I set the input on the XMC-2 to USB Stream and the Mode to Stereo the XMC-2 plays music on ALL the speakers I have in the home theater, not just my left and right front speakers. This does not happen in Direct mode.

I have had this happen but then switch to a different mode and back and then it plays through 2 speakers.

Are you using a streamer or a computer? If a computer what music playing software do you use? Thanks for your input.

Hey guys
First time posting!
I'm a new owner of an Xmc2 in Australia (it finally arrived here after months of waiting)!
I'm using the xmc in a 9.1.6 setup running the 1.7 firmware.
So far the unit is running well apart from a few small issues.
I'm having issues with the HDMI as others have said but this gets resolved by switching from input to input and back again.
The biggest concern I have is that when I skip through chapters using mpchd or Vlc media player different speakers make a loud pop.
I'm keen to get my hands on 1.8!

Hi, I purchased a Samsung Q90R TV and a Apple 4K TV. I connected the XMC-2 and Oppo BDP-93 and all was working fine. I went to play a Bluray yesterday and there was no video or audio. Strange as it was fine up to then.
I changed all the video settings on the BDP-93 to auto and I now have video. There is still no audio.
I have tried the following:
XMC-2 to HDMI 1.4 Standby - Set to video remains on CEC on all devices to off Tried every audio setting on the BDP-93 including auto, normally I have it set to Bitstream Backed up the XMC-2 and reset to default, then restoed settings. Tried 3 different HDMI cables
When I connect the BDP-93 direvt to the Q90R there is audio.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Dave.
