Right, and the 3rd gen models also have a TOSLink connector for more audio flexibility. Apple TV 4K is terrible. I’m struggling now that I’m doing 4K. I’ve never had any problem with ATV 4K. Do you have a defective unit? Is it up to date? What can we do to help?

Apple TV 4K is terrible. I’m struggling now that I’m doing 4K. I have a 3G, 4G, and 4K — the 4K is working well with my V3 board, what problem are you having? The Apple TV 4K is fickle. It might be my HDMI cables. But I’m getting nothing - no picture no sound. This isn’t because of the XMC2. I had this issue with the Apple TV 4K and my LG C7 using the Theta and Sony receiver. I’m gonna order new hdmi cables as this seems to be the culprit in many cases.

Most likely HDMI cable issue for the ATV 4K. Try two new ones, test a few times using the ATV test, then run the wire out of sight.
I had to change HDMI cables for mine as the first started to have problems with the ATV. After that, it is pretty much solid.

FWIW I have about 4 AppleTV 4K's and two of them have had issues when trying to do 4K HDR. One of them I bought for my father in law and I was able to just swap out at bestbuy. The other was a little older so I just installed it on my patio TV and turned off HDR and used a different AppleTV4K in the theater room. Cables do play a part, but once you have the right cable it basically eliminates it down to the appleTV.

Really looking forward to this but been hearing a lot about Emotive pros being glitchy ?!? There were issues in early firmware but we are very happy with the latest code that comes in the unit. All the processors run very solid now.

My question is for KeithL , is the XMC-2 using the same USB C-Media audio chip as the previous XMC-1 or it's newer one that doesn't need a specific windows driver?

I received my XMC-2 yesterday and had a little time to play. (9.1.2) setup with 4k and no Issues with my FireTV stick 4K, Oppo 203 or my HTPC in limited testing. I setup my distances, levels and without tweaking anything else (Tone controls or PEQ) it sounds and looks very good in my space. ATMOS, Dolby Vision and HDR all worked/passed properly and no issues with changing sources.
I have a UMK-1 Mic and plan to play around with REW, hopefully this weekend.
So far so good!!!
PS I also plan to connect my RaspPi/Roon End Point to the USB DAC input to test that as well.

A through professional review/comparison between the new XMC-2 and the upcoming Monoprice HTP-1-16 will make for some very interesting reading.
In comparing the backside of both processors, it looks as though the XMC-2 has a few features not included on the Monoprice.
Specifically, the XMC-2 has:
• One balanced (XLR) input
• One additional HDMI input
• One additional non-balanced analog stereo input
• AM/FM Tuners
• OSD Menu and Volume display
The plus side for the HTP-1 includes:
• Roon Endpoint
• Stated support for up to 5 subwoofers (Not sure if this is a meaningful difference)
• Wi-Fi with Google Chromecast
If I understand correctly, the HTP-1 will not include an OSD but rather will be IR remote and/or app controlled. For me, not having an OSD Volume indicator would be a negative.
Given the XMC-2 is a grand less expensive than the HTP-1, it looks like Monoprice is in for some stiff competition from Emotiva. What am I missing?

What am I missing? I don't think you're missing anything. I would never buy anything expensive from Monoprice. Even if the XMC-2 were a grand more expensive than the HTP-1, I'd get the XMC-2. Just waiting for the trade-in program with the XMC-1 to begin.

Just waiting for the trade-in program with the XMC-1 to begin. I do not think that is fair to monoprie. Their Monolith amps (although made by ATI) and especially their Monolith THX Subs have been very well received. Sure they are not as expensive as the HTP-1 will be, but they are not bargain bin units either. And just like Emotiva, monoprice being a player in the higher end audio sector only helps. It keeps competitors cost somewhat down, and very likely in the case of the XMC-2 (going form 7.4 to 9.6) it keeps Emotiva somewhat honest to their mission statement of affordable high end.

... Given the XMC-2 is a grand less expensive than the HTP-1, it looks like Monoprice is in for some stiff competition from Emotiva. What am I missing? Sounds like you got the main points. Something else I don’t see on the MP is the IR IN/OUT, I send IR to my processor from the Harmony Hub and find this feature very valuable. I also see a pet peeve that they seem to arbitrarily have changed the practice of putting the Left channel on top for L/R pairs. Audio Research does this too, and I find it annoying. It will be interesting to see how their USB, and network works, also firmware updates. As (I think) this is their first processor we don’t quite know what to expect. Edit: Oh, the MP also lists eARC, I’m sure not everything in the spec, but probably the important stuff.

Personally I just find the HTP-1 to be plain ugly! That alone precludes me from even considering it.

I'm assuming Dirac is not in the units released now and will be a add on later ? Below is part of the latest RMC-1 firmware version 1.5 notes from Emotiva: “We are continuing to move forward on preparing the RMC-1 to work with the latest version of Dirac Live Room Correction. While we're still waiting for final code from Dirac, we have made significant progress on the development work necessary to integrate their code into our firmware. We will continue to keep you updated as the situation progresses.”

Now that it looks like Emotiva finally has the platform 95%+ stabilized I am once again considering their processors. I was going to get the RMC-1 but after it was constantly delayed I chose a Denon 8500H and 6200W for my theater. Looks like it was the right choice at the time since it has taken a year from the delayed launch to get the RMC-1 about where it should have been on day #1. Anyway, instead of the RMC-1 I am now thinking the XMC-2 or possibly the RMC-1L. Either of those should satisfy my wants and needs (9.x.6) and Dirac will be a bonus. I will use Emotiva amps to power everything; XPA-2 for the mains (3 HT-12's), and (2) A-700's for the surrounds (14 RSL C34E's). Any known connectivity issues to a JVC RS540 projector? Anyone see a flaw in this plan?

I’ll swap em and see if there is a difference I’d compare the two using the best cable you have, directly into the TV. When you're certain the ATV4K and cable are good, then throw the XMC-2 (and another cable) in the mix.
