“Pathetic” experts are an essential part in all of this Should have said "self made experts." Or, "those experts, if only experts in their own minds"

Looks like this thread is dead I never read in the forum rules one must reply to every post, so it's possible to just move on.

Not sure who posted that this thread is dead... hopefully it's not. I'm actually humbled that folks are interested in this 2 channel journey... 16 pages with 7,916+ views. That being said, I've been crazy busy with work lately... life got in the way for a while... hope to be back enjoying the music shortly.

Many of us have seen threads lay dormant for years at a time and then pop up again. I get a kick out of that…especially if I was in there someplace and then need a “refresher course” with what I had said.

hope to be back enjoying the music shortly. I hope so. Please update us on your tube comparisons/rankings, and please update us on your room treatment status! Been listening and enjoying my system, simply haven't been hangin around The Lounge lately... but I'll stop by from time to time. Couple of quick updates... The Bifrost has been sold and gifted the Rega to my son as he has a new interest in vinyl and I find myself streaming from Tidal and Qobuz more and more... simply more convenient.

Picked up a Cambridge AXA35 integrated for our son and we spent all weekend listening, talking, eating and compared notes... it was a blast!! I picked it up on eBay as a refurb unit for $230 directly from Cambridge. It comes with a 1 year warranty and looked brand new when we took it out of the box. As the center of a budget system, in my humble opinion, it's well worth the retail price of $350 @ the $230 refurb price with a full warranty, it's a no brainer. He's 21 and this is his 1st entry point into our hobby. He ordered SVS Prime, Martin Logan Motion 4i and Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 speakers from Crutchfield... the generous 60 day return policy made it a new brainer, but in reality all he needed was the weekend. He made a couple of play lists within Roon, Tidal and Qobuz was used for content with a couple of FLAC files on my NAS. We also connected a Rega P2 to the AXA35 and spun a few records. Within the first 30mins of listening, the Martin Logan's went back into their boxes and then the fun began... SVS vs Wharfedale. The Motion 4i's were simply outclassed by the larger bookshelves; they were even bested by our Emotiva 3B desktop computer speakers. In the event you aren't familiar with the 3Bs, here's what they look like and since they aren't sold anymore, here's a review with more details. Emotiva had a give a-way a few years back and I won them through the Lounge... been enjoying them ever since... thanks again Emotiva!! www.audioholics.com/computer-speaker-reviews/emotiva-airmotiv-3b-bluetooth-speaker-reviewIn the end he preferred the Wharfedale Diamonds as they simply sounded best to his ears; however, before we boxed the SVS up, we connected both sets to my system. After another long listening session that lasted into the late evening / early AM, his initial choice was solidified and we boxed up the SVS. It was a great couple of days and time well spent...

Since the Cambridge AXA35 was, in our opinion, a great deal, I purchased a refurb CXN v2 streamer. Picked it up for $749 on Cambridge's eBay store. It too came in brand new condition... similarly shipped in a genic brown box with new manual, new remote and new batteries... all in all I'm impressed with their eBay store, extremely fast shipping to Florida and saving $350 made it an even sweeter deal.
After a few days of listening, my son and I came to the conclusion that the DAC in the Node 2i can't compete with the Bifrost nor CXN v2. Although the Node 2i sounds great, you get a wider soundstage, clearer instrument separation and detail from the Bifrost 2 and CXN v2. Now the harder part... Bifrost vs CXN v2... although there were slight differences, I mean it could have gone either way, it was extremely difficult to justify the Bifrost as I only paid $49 more for the CXN v2. Did the Bifrost sound better?? In some instances we heard a difference, but it could have been introduced by our non-scientific listening tests; however, the differences didn't mean that the Bifrost sounded better... just slightly different. In the end, I decided to sell the Bifrost and simply enjoy the music that the CXN v2 provides.
For now I'm satisfied and enjoying the music... however... I can see trying a higher end DAC... a Holo May, Yggy or maybe another Denafrips... a Pontus or Venus. We'll see what happens in the future and I'll be sure to post my experiences here...

Are those DACs……or a list of Greek Goddesses?

My son picked up an SVS SB-1000 Pro for his 2 channel setup last week; after an hour or so of trial and error finding the best location and fine tuning settings within the app, it blends and sounds great with his Wharfedale Diamonds.
