My son picked up an SVS SB-1000 Pro for his 2 channel setup last week; after an hour or so of trial and error finding the best location and fine tuning settings within the app, it blends and sounds great with his Wharfedale Diamonds. That was a great move! (I’ve been intrigued by SVS for quite some time) That said my Velodyne is still kicking, though the company has gone overseas

Day two... the tubes have been baking since 8am and so far so good. Besides various music playing in the background, I paid close attention to these three songs and to be honest, I'm really really impressed thus far. Once 50hrs are complete, I'll provide more insight, so give me a few more days...

SVS makes good subs. In fact I have two SB-2000 Pros to help with my planar-magnetics' low-end. I even vinyl-wrapped them to match my mains.

Warming up the Shuguang Treasure CV181-Z... so far so good... Alright... just sat down for 1 song that I am extremely familiar with, raised the volume and closed my eyes... once the song ended, I was like... holy Schiit... can't be... and played the song again. Same reaction, but this time I had a big smile on my face. SO.... tomorrow night I plan to spend quality time with these tubes and will post my opinion. If initial impressions are any indication of what tomorrow holds, all I can say right now is that I'm glad I bought these and I can see myself buying a single tube for my Lyr 3.

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel?

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel? I sold my HT gear when we move into our new home, original intention was to buy a new HT setup, but plans changed and I opted for a 2 channel setup. Zero regrets... but after living with a soundbar and small sub for the last 3 years, I'm starting to get an itch for an upgrade.

Warming up the Shuguang Treasure CV181-Z... so far so good... Been comparing these to one of my favorites.. and to be totally honest, these CV181-Z tubes are very very good. Detailed, yet not fatiguing, vocals have a warm natural sound to them, acoustic guitar is simply fantastic, soundstage is deep and wide and over all, regardless of genre... I prefer them to the Sylvania GTA 3 Hole BB Plate Chrome Domes that I have on hand. The Sylvania tubes are indeed great tubes, but my ears simply prefer the CV1810-Z sound signature. When they are warmed up, they put a smile to my face and I get lost in the music... I simply enjoy what I hear. I plan to compare them to the Baldwins during the week... more to come.

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel? Not many come over to listen to two channel, so that's mostly just for me. But HT gets lots of sharing opportunities on Movie Night! throughout the year. So long as my residence remains unchanged, so too will its usage.

Agreed... as COVID hit, my HT room plans morphed into a home office and 2 channel setup. Been having the itch to move my desk elsewhere in the house and getting back to my HT plans... we'll see what 2022 has in store; at the moment it's to early to tell.

“HT gets lots of sharing opportunities on Movie Night! throughout the year. So long as my residence remains unchanged, so too will its usage.“ I LOVE the sharing aspect of Home Theater 🎭! Some of the most memorable times we’ve had in this place are from sharing movies and “live” surround sound performances with our friends and my daughters friends also!

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel? I'm not selling off anything yet, but will not be buying any more or do upgrades to what I have. (surround sound equipment) I find it's a rabbit hole and I quit digging. During this economy, I find buying higher end products 2 ch cost prohibitive. My thoughts are there will be bargains in the not so distant future in the pre-owned market. Plan to be very thoughtful about any spending at this time that is not necessary, and not just audio gear. What I do buy will be a bargain, I flipped audio gear before and did well. Surround sound is fun, but music is much more important to us.

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel? The HT? I don't miss it a bit! Eliminated two XPA amps, the Denon 4400X, the OPPO BD, SVS Ultra Speakers, TT, two hundred feet of cable, huge audio stand, etc., all gone. I did keep the two SVS SB3000 subs though. I thought of replacing them with a couple of new REL x7's or x9's, but decided to keep them as the control the SVS app offers is second to none. And they get really really LOW. ;-) My new system is in my signature... I am still playing with it, I just downloaded Audirvana Studio and Qubuz today to use on my 2018 Mac Mini via USB to the Cambridge using the AudioQuest Cinnamon S/PDIF coax out to the Schiit Gungnir DAC. I have the Schiit Freya S preamp doing double duty with the Cambridge, all via XLR cables. AudioQuest Cinnamon USB cable from the Mac to the Cambridge. I was not going to keep either of the Schiits in the chain, but hearing them with Audirvana and Qubuz, they may stay. But, the sound is now a bit on the bright side with the speakers. Before Audirvana and Qubuz this was not an issue with the preamp in the Cambridge or the two Schiits. Comparatively the sound was a bit veiled, the Audirvana really did some magic, along with Qubuz. To my ear, the game changer was the Audirvana software, as that had the biggest impact. And the Audirvana iOS app, that is killer, you can run everything from either an iPhone or iPad as long as the Audirvana app is up and running on the Mac. The app turns your phone or tablet into a remote control over the network, you can still use your phone or other apps without disturbing the music. I just leave it on and I can hook up without even having to go near the Mac to do anything, no keyboard or mouse required, really slick. Tomorrow, when I get home from work, they are actually giving me a day off, going into my third month without one, seven days, 12 on 12 off... I am going to remove the Schiit and go direct with the Cambridge and see how that does. I think the DAC and preamp in the Cambridge will tone things down to my liking. At least I am hoping it does, as the Cambridge does naturally lean to the warm side. It will be interesting to hear the detail compared to the Gungnir DAC. Before adding the Audirvana and Qubuz it was a tie between the Schiit and Cambridge in sound, we shall see... I also have the original Schiit Freya in reserve if need be, that brings a bit of warmth to the table too... And if you guys and gals have yet to try Audirvana and or Qobuz, I recommend you give both a shot, it really did improve the clarity and gave the instruments much more separation vs Apple and Amazon music. It really added to the sound in a good way, except for that little bit of brightness at the top, which was rather fatiguing, even with the attenuation knob on the speakers. And, I know there is an EQ in Audirvana, I will mess with that too... I also have a Schiit Lokius on hand too, but I hate adding anything more into this chain. Also, the sound output coming out of the Mac is crystal clear through both the Schiit Gungnir and the Cambridge CXN V2 streamer, and I did install one of those ifi USB Purifiers at the back of the Cambridge. Does it do anything? Hell, I don't know, but the sound is very very good, but that could also be the Audirvana bit perfect software working its magic too. I just need to tame that top end a bit. So, if any of you guys have any suggestions, I am wide open for any advice or tips, all ears, as either would be greatly appreciated. I'm still a noob.

Considering the original thread title, how many have sold off their HT stuff in favor of high quality two channel? I’d actually like to do just the opposite, and let my HT system take over two channel duties. However, that would mean giving up my Maggies and upgrading at least the LCR of my HT, and while I’ve come up with ideas I think I could live with, my wife is very fond of the Maggies, and not crazy about the thought of the room without them.

Remember, Widescreen Review’s Home Theater reference system is all Magnepan. That was one strategy, I tried building an all Magnepan HT system several years ago, and while there were some qualities I liked, it just didn’t work for me, in my room (an oddly again, my wife didn’t like it at all).

Life gets in the way, so I stopped nit picking ever nuance and detail and simply started to enjoy... the Treasures CV181-Z in the Freya don't disappoint.
