Time certainly flies by... 15 months in our new home and it's been a fun ride thus far! Zero regrets moving down to Florida's Gulf Coast! During the last few months, as I'm sure others have experienced, life has thrown a monkey wrench into my original plan, see below... no complaints, just need to shift gears a bit and figured an updated post was warranted... Original Plans:emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/53614/new-home-smaller-ht-space COVID-19... both kids, actually young adults, are now home and taking college courses remotely. I need an office space as I'm getting tired of working from the dining room; therefore, we decided to convert the den into an audio room / office space and put the HT conversion on hold for now. Before going DIY for HT speakers and subs in our previous home, I posted my journey in the Lounge, see below. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/41054/opinions-help-needed-which-speakersAlthough the DIY speakers more than satisfied my HT needs, I wasn't truly satisfied when listening to music as they weren't as detailed nor as open as my B&Ws... however, the B&Ws couldn't match them in terms of HT dynamics. Below is the DIYSG 893 speaker sitting on it's stand... an 18" sub. Massive and yes, they were in our living room. Since the den will be geared towards 2 channel, I figured best to change things up a bit, yet keep HT as the end game. Time will tell, but I will probably depart from the movie theater look in the room as most of the choices I make now, will need to stay... I did mention that we have 2 kids in college. The den is an empty canvas again, was used for storage, so as things evolve I'll post updates...

I'm waiting on a bunch of gear to arrive, so we're deciding on paint color and reviewing fabric choices for the acoustic panels. Not sure if I will go DIY or purchase from ATS or GIK. Since the plans for the room have changed; instead of HT seating, we decided to go with a leather loveseat. Kinda funny as I posted this question in the past... so it seems that I went full circle on seating. emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/49263/home-theater-seating-recommendationsCouple of contenders... still deciding on leather color. I prefer the look of the lighter colored love seat, wife prefers the darker one. Both are powered recliners with adjustable headrests and are equally comfortable, so the decision will be based on which style is preferred... fingers crossed I win, but we'll see as my wife enjoys this hobby as much as I do. Speakers... I originally considered the Buchardt S400; however, they don't offer them individually so, I wouldn't be able to reuse them when I go down the HT path. So... I decided to take a massive leap of faith... going to give Arendal 1723s towers a shot. They get rave reviews overseas, have THX Ultra certification, won a bunch of awards, and with their 60 day try and buy, I figured why not give them a try. If you had the chance to listen to them, please let me know... besides a couple of Youtube videos, not many reviews in the states. arendalsound.com/1723-s-thx-series-speakers/

Get a pair of Human 88-41s and enjoy what ensues. www.humanspeakers.com/human/8841.htmCan create center and surrounds with matched drivers from Huw’s line. Rythmik subs to plunge the depths.

?
Human loudspeakers are finished products. Yes, they are also available as kits. Your superficial reading of the website was wrong.

You bash the Arendal website indicating it takes 10mins to load and now you indicate I didn't dig into the Human Loudspeakers website enough... if this is all the feedback you can provide, I appreciate your time... no need to rain on my parade if I'm not open to consider speakers from Human loudspeakers.

So I’ll bring some sunshine; good luck with your search! It can be difficult and time consuming to get it right, or at least good enough for satisfaction. Huw’s stuff isn’t for everyone, but he’s a heck of a story and guy.

The Vidars have been delivered 9 x 13 x 4, weight 22 lbs, 100W x 2, and they’re AB! Will you bi-amp or bridge?

Yup... Class AB, but actually... 8 Ohms: 100w x 2 4 Ohms: 200w x 2 Mono, 8 ohms: 400w Build quality is very good and I'm happy they are assembled with parts made within the US. I chatted with Schiit and they say in mono they will handle 4ohm loads... at insane volumes the protection circuit may trigger. I plan on using them in mono; hence the XLRs as that is the only way to engage the mono circuitry.

Took my Oppo BDP-103 out of storage and will be using it for CD playback... yup, I still have some of those, so might as well enjoy them. Got a good deal on a slightly used Rega Planar 2, sold some stuff on eBay and picked up a Bluesound Node 2i to compare it to the Pi Roon endpoint... I think my audio sources are complete...
