ratmice... ...and the old "middle" render version... Cool...forgot that one. The renderings are nice to see, but now we need to see the real ones... Mike

Lonnie, I've been looking forward to an Emo DAC for a long time now, so it's very exciting to see the progress. I have a few questions: 1) Is the volume control digital or analog? If digital, I believe that would lower the sound quality when not set at maximum volume, correct? 2) Does the DAC remember the volume levels for each of the sources or does it need to be adjusted every time you switch? (I ask that in hopes the volume adjust is analog. If digital, I wouldn't set it at anything lower than maximum) 3) Are there any plans to release a UDA-1 down the road? I already have the USP-1, so the volume control and headphone jack are a bit superfluous. Thanks in advance. Grant The volume control is digital and it is global. But being digital sources, there really shouldn't be a need for individual settings. At this time I am just working on this one. The baby version is down the road. Add a headphone output to the smaller chassis and it'd be a killer setup for a PC.

Lonnie
Two questions.
I have my PC that I built that I want to use the digital coax out for my flac files. I need to go 25' to the DAC. The DAC will go to the UMC-1 I only have one subwoofer connected to the SUB OUT on the UMC-1
Will this work ok without jitter Problems?
In the future is there anyway I can use direct mode and still have the sub output active?
That would really help a lot of us in incorperating the DAC with the UMC-1 to get the best SQ and still have the sub active.

I have a preamp and a headphone jack already!

I don't need all the extra stuff on the DAC. But the masses have spoken and they demand all the extras so they shall receive them.

The baby version is down the road. I'm happy to hear that the small version is still a potential product. As I said on page 2, I'd very much prefer something small with a few digital inputs and analog output, and nothing more.

I'm happy to see there are some like-minded individuals on here. I probably will hold off and wait for the smaller version because I don't like to have components I know I won't use. I think $300 is fair and affordable, but having the volume controls and headphone jack is a bit of a turn off. Simplicity is key, especially with separates.

You could always buy the XDA-1 now and get the lower end model when it comes out. that way you could get it sooner, compare the two, and i'm sure, at $300, you could probably sell the XDA-1 quite easily. Just an idea.

Here is the latest concept for you to enjoy. ;D Where did the power button go? I will probably be using the 12v trigger with my amps, but I also want a second one for computer use. Does it turn on and off automatically with a signal? With the headphone output, this could completely replace my iBasso D10 Cobra, unless the D10 Cobra is a better headphone amp.

Lonnie, thanks for making my day! I've been tracking this sucker from the day it was announced. I intend to connect a Wadia 170i Transport to the DAC and use my 160GB Classic iPod as a music server (all songs are ripped in Apple Lossless). I'm not sure the analog inputs on my Yamaha RX-V661 will do this setup justice, but it will only be temporary until the XMC comes out (also, I'm aware of the irony of having an iPod transport that costs more than a DAC- that should be Emo's next project).

For pennies more than the Wadia 170i (4,000 to be exact), you could get a 160GB Apple TV and an 8GB iPod Touch. The Apple TV has digital out so you don't need anything to bridge the gap between itself and the DAC. You can even stream music or radio off of computers in your wireless network. Now for the best part. The free Remote app on the iPod touch gives you an on screen access to your entire music library and internet radio stations and allows you to change songs and stations from anywhere in your wireless network. On top of all that, you don't even need to hook it up to your TV. Although I don't have an external DAC yet, I am doing everything I said above and believe it is by far the best music server solution out there right now.

Do you already own the Wadia? Not yet. I figured without a good DAC it wouldn't do me any good. Why do you ask?

Cool. Thanks for the info, Ghumbs. I'll have to give Apple TV a look. Regardless of what I use to stream my tunes, I'm excited about this Emo DAC.

Cool. Thanks for the info, Ghumbs. I'll have to give Apple TV a look. Regardless of what I use to stream my tunes, I'm excited about this Emo DAC. Yep, me too! I was in the same boat as you (as was forums user AarheadC) and we were trying to figure out the best way to store and listen to our digital music. Whatever it was had to store and play a lossless format and have the ability to bypass its own DAC to be used with an external DAC. We'd seen the Wadia but felt it was an awful lot to pay for something that did very little. One day he IMs me and says he has a solution and he can't believe we hadn't thought of it before. When he suggested Apple TV + iPod Touch, I thought it was too good to be true. But as I researched it, I realized it really was the perfect solution. What more could you ask for that having an interactive remote for your music anywhere in your house (not to mention all the other stuff it does)? It even displays album art, track timing, and playback controls. I'm sure I sound like a fanboy or spokesman but I can't stress enough how much I like using the Apple TV for music. I couldn't ask for more, I don't think (besides a better DAC, that is).

Any specs on headphone out? Opamp or discrete output?

I just doesn't look right if it doesn't have the (e) in the middle like all of the other gear. I thought that at first too, but considering it's more of a complementary device than a separate input device, and they could only fit so much in the center, I think they made the right choice.

Another way to stream from your pc would be Squeezebox or Playstation 3 both work okay. I have both and use the squeezebox and my iphone/touch as a remote.

I put the Musical Fidelity V Dac in my system last night to use until the Emo Dac is released. 2 channel sounds great going from the PC-DAC-USP-1. This is a definite improvement to the networked Integra DHC 40.1 I had been using. I do see though that the smaller Emo Dac would be more than sufficient in my case as long as I'm using the USP-1.
