IP based command not IR @keithl Did you follow the link, the network API is also on that page, it uses xml to query and send IP commands.

Though not 'new', it's new to me, just got my first M1 based Mac, kind of cool being able to run iOS and iPadOS apps (like the Emotiva Remote) on a laptop.

So I haven’t got the app to work at all.. The problem is not my network per say.. I have great coverage and speed. No issues at all with my RMC-1 or any other device in my network. I can ping RMC without losses. I use Dirac with it and it has NEVER once failed to connect to Dirac.
I have all my devices with reserved IPs locked to their MAC addresses. Pretty much every ”special” feature turned off in the router.
My issue is simply that the app doesn’t find my RMC-1 at all.. There is something with the UDP lookup that doesn’t seem to work in my network. I have several apps that control devices I have that works just fine but not the Emotiva remote. I have other devices that uses UDP that works fine. But this seem to be some issue with UDP call from wireless to a wired device in the LAN.
I have tried with three different ASUS routers, both with ASUS original firmware and the improved Merlin firmware.
I have been in contact with Mr Lesniak but we have not been able to find a solution to why this doesn’t work in my setup.

Yes, I've only tried a few, Emo Remote, Harmony Remote (setup may not work as it calls the browser), Unifi Network Management, it is cool 😎. I'm only trying the ones where the iOS / iPadOS app offers something you can't do on macOS.

What I've seen is that sometimes my RMC-1 'disappears' on the network when it gets busy. It used to do this a lot, but rarely happens any more, in the past it would happen if I was watching a 4K / Atmos disc, or something else challenging. I did notice it the other night as I was bouncing around in TV, the remote sort of went blank and dumped me back to the main menu -- and the remote name was blank (I assume this is what you see?). Then I did a refresh and it came back, so very short lived. Have you tried a network port scan on the address of your RMC-1? If I run one I see ports 22 & 7100 open, I assume the remote talks through one of these but I've never looked on the wire for the packets. I also use DHCP reservations for all devices.

Those ports are always open.
I have never noticed any network drop. I used to use the old app which worked just fine. Even during heavy usage (4k+atmos) it simply worked every time.
This new app, I guess, could work just as good. It's just that it won't find my RMC-1 to get it started. It's a problem with the discovery process with UDP broadcast from wireless (my iPAD) to wired (my RMC-1).
I would need to do a full network log fail test of the router to see what's happening to the broadcasts from Emotiva remote. They simply seem to disappear on the way because RMC-1 doesn't seem to react at all to the app. I have tried to force the router to open ports from UDP via port forwarding but with no luck. The broadcasts just seems to be ignored by the router.

The remote API uses UDP in the port range 7000-7004. It's primarily unicast traffic, not broadcast. I think the broadcast is only used for discovery and is optional if you know the IP address of the system. It's all detailed in an interface description that is posted in the forum.

Yes, I know… My problem is with the discovery. UDP broadcasts which seem to disappear on the way to my router. Or discarded by the router. I have been in talks with the app author Mr Lesniak. He has explained how the app works and also provided me with a couple of betas which he thought could have fixed my problem. Among those a version which let me set the processor IP. I don’t know of any way to set IPs in the original 3.0? Do you have a link to the post with the interface description?

Is there someone that owns an newer ASUS router, use the Apple version of the app and get it working?
I own the RT-AX86U. Although I have tried with RT-AX82U and RT-AC86U also.
Mr Lesniak also hinted in his last email that my wireless devices would send its UDP broadcasts outside of my local network. Would this mean it could be something with my ISP rather than the router discarding the broadcasts? This I find strange because have no setting that keeps my wireless devices from my intranet. Unless I use the guest network.

One troubleshooting step I can think of would be to get your hands on an M1 based Mac where you could run the iPadOS version of the Remote App v3. You could then hardwire both the Mac and RMC-1 to the same switch and eliminate the wireless, if you statically addressed both the RMC and the Mac you could even get rid of the router (though if assigned DHCP doesn't work that could be an indicator). I'm not sure where you'd go from there, but it's something. You should even be able to do the same thing with any of the iPad Pros having a USB-C port (since 2018), then use a USB-C to Ethernet adapter.

Ahh, Then I agree with your post entirely. I use the Emotiva App on an M1 MacBook Air. Works great. I love being able to use mobile apps on the computer.

I don’t know what Mr Lesniak changed in the discovery process in 3.0. But either ASUS has some UDP broadcast bug. Or.. I have something very special in my setup that stops this from working, although I don’t understand what could cause this. Especially as the Dirac remote box has the same discovery code, although connected by wire, and works fine. Or.. There’s something my ISP does preventing the UDP broadcasts from reaching the LAN.

Have you enabled IGMP snooping on the wifi? Or other devices that needs it enabled in you network where traffic will pass. www.asus.com/me-en/support/FAQ/1011438/I did try some different settings and noticed I was not able to find my XMC-2 when IGMP snooping was turned of in my AP's and switch.
