How about CPO Sharkey with Don Rickles, anyone remember that one? The funny thing about that is that I recall next to nothing about the show, except an image in my head of Don Rickles in uniform! That clip I brought up of Johnny Carson invading the set with his busted. Cigarette box is really the only thing I remember… Probably because it was so funny I played the thing back a dozen times over the years Rickles was simply comic genius … Yet besides all of that, his first role was a serious one as he played quartermaster in the infamous submarine movie with Clark Gable Run silent run deep. (Also starring Burt Lancaster.)

Seen the Carson / Rickles clip and it IS very funny. This one will leave you breathless......and resulted in a film career since JOHN WAYNE saw this and had a flash of insight. www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXTqWOx1dOQThis is from the Groucho Marx TV show.....'You Bet Your LIfe'......now being done poorly (IMO) by Jay Leno

Don Rickles was in the '58 submarine movie 'Run Silent, Run Deep'. in a serious type role.
Very talented fellow can be seen nearly at the start of his career.....

I woke up thinking about a particular TV show.
RAWHIDE from the 60's was the entry vehicle for Clint Eastwood....He worked a LOT before the '59 start of the series and the rest is 'history'.... But the character? Rowdy Yates. Great name for the master of 'understated'
Next Up?
Gunsmoke. This ran for 20 years and Would have gone longer but for a network decision. James Arness? Brother of Peter Graves. Arness was in an early SciFi classic....and played 'the monster' in 'The Thing From Another World'......Great method! Remade a couple times.....but I still like the original.
My brother was a Big Fan of 'My Friend Flicka'.....another Oater. Earlier a feature film from a book
At least 50 or 100 MORE Westerns....many from the Golden Age, which just for the sake of discussion might be from '53 to '68....give or take.
Any fans of Bat Masterson? Or Have Gun Will Travel?

And now for something completely different. Monty Pythons flying circus! Stumbled across it on public television in the early 70's when I was a lad. Been hooked ever since! NI!

The Steve Allen Show. Although he had a show, like the "Tonight Show" in the mid to late 50s, Allen had another show on KTLA in Los Angeles late 60 early 70s I believe. Would religiously watch every evening. So funny and great guests, Louis Nye... Tim Conway.. Don Knotts..and a slew of old time comedians. Some great stuff. Yeah, Im old, haha
