You know? INSTEAD of wood veneer? A SMOOTH finish in Piano Black is cool......but a fingerprint monster. Likewise? Same finish in any of 1000 colors also works. Robins Egg Blue? Candy Apple RED? You name it. And you can get a good color chart at PANTONE......an industry leader. www.pantone-colours.com/For the Automobile guys? Porsche Red or even British Racing Green......And I'll let YOU look up my favorite. CELESTE......Used by Bianchi the Italian Bicycle builder and racer...... At that point all you need is an industrial size PAINT BOOTH and a shooter / mixer........ I helped a paintshop do the setup of semi-clean areas outside the booth....a seperate room INSIDE the big room. I made certain recommendations which they actually FOLLOWED......Move the prepared car into the PRE clean room, do the final preps, wipedowns and detail masking. Than roll into the paint room....maybe class 100 or class 1000? All sorts of rules concerning these booths, but I was ONLY concerned with the preparation areas, not the booth itself.....

I agree with most of what you say. However, I would like to flesh out my previous comment about ‘disappearing in the room’. A speaker can be very noticeable and ‘disappear in the room’. All objects in a living space have one essential purpose. That is to complement the most important part of the room – The People who are in the room. When The People complement the Objects, something is ‘out of balance’ – Pun intended. One additional thing is certain. I DO NOT like Green Eggs and Ham! The ultimate way to make a speaker disappear - a BIG speaker, even - is to buy a pair of Magnepan 3.7i or 20.7i and aim them 45 degrees to the side wall. When placed precisely, sitting at the MLP all you see is a dark edge about 2" wide. The speaker is essentially invisible. Then, if you have nice hard reflective side walls within 3-4ft of the speakers, you turn on the music ... and your mind is blown! While PaulBe is busy NOT liking Green Eggs and Ham? I do some of my best work on my Big Green Egg. Everything from 20lb Turkeys to Pork Should (6 or 7hour cook) to Burgers and Dogs? Even PIZZA which is as good as you can get.......I make doughballs up the day before and let them rise overnite than knock 'em down to 'discs' and add the goodies. 15" or so at about 600f and change and you are GOLDEN......

I’m a Autobody painter, I’m actually preferring some of the new matte finishes on speakers over the gloss finishes. But the good thing is if there is a speaker I like but don’t like the finish, I can finish it the way I want, this is definitely a perk I m grateful for

You know, JBL did reissue of the 'classic' L100, which I think is very similar to the 4311, which I have some experience with.....
Nice speaker.....'BIG' sounding. Wacky grill. I traded my RSL3600s.....a PERFECT and some ways superior.....copy of the 4311 for a pair of Magnepans
maybe 45 or so years ago......
A modern version from somebody besides JBL? The Klipsch Heresy or Forte or Cornwall......All up to Revision IV and sounding pretty good......And are fairly
high sensitivity so a GOOD amp of 100 a side will get you evicted......
I have a buddy with L110s and he will be buried in the box they came in......

When placed precisely, sitting at the MLP all you see is a dark edge about 2" wide. The speaker is essentially invisible. Then, if you have nice hard reflective side walls within 3-4ft of the speakers, you turn on the music ... and your mind is blown! marcl has hit upon a neat setup. I've experimented with 'em all over a period of 35 to 45 years....Listening to EITHER side in EITHER L / R orientation...(that's 4 ways) Near to wall.....far from wall....... Even extreme toe IN or OUT......But never corner loaded with the listener facing into the apex of a corner..... The ONE way I tried that Marcl may enjoy? I FACED my MG-1 panel AT one another maybe 30" or so apart.....Certainly no further than 3 feet. I layed down with my head between the panels At some outrageous late hour with the house totally asleep? Turned on some music about 3 clicks from 'zero' and it was terrific. Since the speakers were nowhere near a boundry? I got nearly no reflected sound. It as like the ULTIMATE Open Air Headphone..... And Keith? With his preference for 'speakers that look like speakers? I had to laugh. What the heck does THAT mean? Gotta have cones? Some plain grill cloth? No...for ME....speakers are potentially a decorative item. And FUNCTIONAL. Just like anything else. EVERYONE can have preferences. I'm personally tired of the 'tower' paradigm and multiple smaller woofers. Give me a BIG woofer / Passive or proper porting......High sensitivity and decent power handling.....that gives high potential dynamic range..... If I were sending an audiophile 'Yute, off to college? Maybe those KEF LS50 in 'latest' iteration......and a small integrated amp. Use iPhone / Spotify or WHATEVER as a source......Heck! My Radio Shack Minimus 7 would do in a PINCH. They have stood the test of time....and for a 'found' item? Really NOT bad at all. And Keith doesn't LIKE piano black or similar finish in White......and I'd tend to agree EXCEPT that in the proper room with the REAL decorator touch? MAYBE....... Just THINK of the pallet of colors available. All those REDS. Hundreds of BLUES. Greens to make you swoon. All sorts of combos and mixes. Want something different in 'wood'? Find a link to PLYBOO and check out some of the alternatives. I think they sell veneer, but also 3/4" sheets of Bamboo Plywood. Back the plywood with some kind of Void Free 3/8" plywood? You'd end up with OVER an inch of Pure Inert..... www.plyboo.com/products/plywood-veneer/plyboostrand-bamboo-plywood-and-veneer//The Strand version in NEOPOLITAN is beautiful and dramatic. And DURABLE. I've got some samples around here somewhere and it it the real deal.....

Wanna start a war? chime in on 4311b vs 4312......
Just like RSL? 3600 was super copy of the 4311, had DOME, too.
Just like JBL....the orignal RSL3300 and L100 had cone tweets which were later 'upgraded' in the new model....
If I found a perfect and UNMolested pair of the 3600? Temptation would set in if I could afford.....

Temptation would set in if I could afford..... JBL released 50th anniversary edition 4312 with improvements for a measley $4000 a pair some 5 or so years ago. Hard to swallow given my pair was less than $500 a pair around 1985.😆. Still run them as mains in home theater, but looking at something newer with full range... Minimum 12" woofer though.

I'm not recommending? But a perfect 'fit' would be either of the 3 main speakers in the KLIPSH Heritage line. Heresy IV 12" 3-way / ported.....in the rear, so to speak. Forte IV 12" 3-way WITH 15" passive radiator. Sweet spot in the line, IMO......Keep it maybe 10" from the wall and 'toed' slightly? Cornwall IV is a 15" 3-way wtih best of the 3 bass response. 3 front ports. Seems to be same mid and tweet as the Forte IV...
New crossover designs? Steeper Slopes? Some minor but important driver improvements......
I heard the FORTE IV and LOVED it. Forward and direct. Not 'horn Shrill' and decent bass......VERY fast and highly sensitive Stereophile measured about 95db, 1 watt, 1 meter. SOME listeners love tubess, but I see reasons in the mesured data to consider Solid State......
Heresy is about 3200$ / Forte goes 5000$ (I know!) / Corwall 6600$
You COULD go upline to the LaScalla or Klipschorn (corner horn) or even the 40,000$ Jubilee, standing nearly 6 feet tall......
ONE minor 'help' is they are ALL available in a small but viable selection of real wood / bookmatched VENEERS......
For the L100 reissue? JBL retained that Uber Eggcrate Grill.....Maybe even in that rude Orange color?

If you look close enough, all finishes show fingerprints to some extent, just not as bad as a gloss piano black. All finishes show dust build-up, including matte finishes.

I think a POSSIBLE solution and subject to experiment and test would be found in the AUTOMOTIVE sector.
Car finish can be protected with CLEAR plastic which is stone proof and a lifetime coating.
Such finishes can also be had in tints and either a Satin or Matte texture......
Imagine being able to set your cold BEER on a speaker and NOT leave a ring of destruction?
Are these films ADHESIVE? Or SHRINK types?
Remember when the Vinyl Top was cool for your 1980 Lincoln? Or your Mid-70s Impala?
These items got a PREMIUM at the dealer. And cost the manufacturer LESS to install.....How's THAT!
No detail finish UNDER where the new top went. And labor was not the limit......

Emotiva revealed the look of there new speakers, I definitely like some of the changes. The front baffle looks very clean without any visible hardware showing. Sounds like lots of little updates to help with sonic improvements over its older model. My Emotiva front end is just waiting for a Emotiva real wood veneer 12” woofer 3 way model ! 🤞🏼😃🔈
