The college education side of me, applied mathematics and applied statistics background, piqued my interest in this movie/documentary. Because of the nature of its background I won't be discussing it due to the Lounge Rules of Politics & Religion. I will however say if you are at all interested in factual statistics, this is an interesting watch and recommended. This post in no way sanctions a discussion on the subject and I will delete any such attempts at doing so. I as well enjoyed the film and even wrote a review on Amazon. I applaud the narrator's intellectual curiosity as he dived deeper in attempts to understand the who, what, where, and why in historical context for the basis or premises supporting the logic that is in our country's founding documents. I give this documentary 5 stars up there with Clarence Thomas' documentary, "Clarence Thomas, in his own words". That is, because both establish correct and honest principles and methods of interpretation - exegesis - if we may ever learn what the original authors meant to convey rather than ourselves or eisegesis.

James Bond Tomorrow Never Dies Blu-ray
I saw this film a couple of times since 1997, but never “heard” it until now in its lossless remastered glory....great sound if you’ve got the gear for it! 7 or 8 more Bond flicks to plow through (happily) since the Holidays last Xmas when my bride got me the complete Bond Collection. An old story but I bought Never say Never Again separately, since ownership rights kept that one out of the box. There is of course the yet unreleased final Craig installment.
Even Doctor No, was surprisingly good with the 1962 sound re-engineering.

Far and away a superior film. Almost broke my heart watching it realizing how bad the 2017 version butchered this film. Arcs for every character vastly improved, particularly for Cyborg and the Flash. Film actually made sense and had direction. Would love to see this continued.

This was definitely "An Edge Of Your Seat" type movie. If it doesn't make you re-think the way you drive your vehicle, I don't know what will. If you have Amazon's Prime Video it won't cost you anything extra. Highly Recommended!!!

Tonight we watched "The Joy Luck Club" based on Amy Tan's book. I wasn't wild about the book (or the movie) but must comment on the movie experience:
My rig is currently:
Yamaha disc player Emotiva TA-100 stereo receiver Klipsch RP-600m speakers with R-12SW sub
The Yammie was in charge of down mix of the surround into stereo. The result? AMAZING dialogue clarity with pinpoint imaging. In the scenes of the Chinese population fleeing the advancing Japanese army, the distant artillery was not only realistic, but almost shocking in its dynamics. In short - no, I didn't miss surround sound at all. Will the results be as satisfying with other movies? I don't know, but plan to find out.

Had a Black Widow mini-watch party last night and another bigger watch party tonight. First my thoughts, as I've now watched it three times now. The Dolby Atmos track is quite engaging and makes really good use of the surrounds and height channels, this really surprised me because of the streaming aspect as opposed to a UHD-bluray disc(which I will be buying when available). On the video side, Dolby Vision on my new Sony 77in OLED(XR-77A80J), is absolutely stunning. My guests were absolutely WOW'ed by the picture, the deep bass scenes and the surround effects and left with there jaws dropped. Luckily for me, there are no plans by Disney to stream the upcoming Marvel movies on release day, so we'll end up taking a trip to the movie theaters or just wait for the disc release and stream release on Disney months later. I personally enjoyed the movie, plot/backstory, and acting, and it definitely fits into the Marvel movies while giving you hints of what could be down the road, and I won't ruin the "post credit scene" for those of you wanting to see it for yourself. Anyhow, Black Widow is most certainly a must see for Marvel enthusiasts and I highly recommend seeing it, whether paying the extra Disney+ streaming cost or going to the movie theaters.

I also watched Black Widow. Although there was a story in there, it was kind of hard to get to through all the chase scenes, bombs going off, fight scenes, and close escapes. Did I enjoy the movie? No. Maybe I'm just not a Marvel fan at heart?
Not much in the movie was credible. But credibility was never the intent of the Marvel universe. It's based on comic books, after all. When I was a kid, I did like comic books. But that nostalgic "like" just hasn't survived the transition to the movies.
Was the movie spectacular? Yep. But sound & special effects just aren't enough, by themselves, to catch my attention. I wouldn't want to watch this one again, and am kind of sorry I spent the time to see it the first time.
I'm aware that I'm definitely in the minority regarding this movie (and the Marvel movie series, for that matter), but it is what it is.

PS: I watched this movie down mixed to stereo. Dialogue intelligibility suffered tremendously. To hear dialogue I had to increase the volume significantly with my finger continuously on the "down volume" button in case a boom came along (which they did with monotonous regularity). This is an artifact of the "Dolby Atmos" encoding. Movies without the Atmos sound codec are perfectly fine with dialogue when down mixed to stereo. But every single Atmos movie I've heard has severe dialogue dropout when heard in stereo. If this becomes the default movie codec, I may be forced to buy a cheap Atmos AVR (just for movies) and add a center channel again (which I really don't want to do. Anyone know of a better workaround?

And although they don't qualify as "movies," per such, I've enjoyed "The Expanse" from beginning to end. And, unfortunately, the end is near. Amazon's announced that the final season (out this Fall) is to be the last. I'll miss it!

Unfortunately, they tried to top this finely crafted finale from 1998 with the 2008 Bomb 💣 “I want to believe”… I want to believe they never made that flop and revisit this one that brings it all together. No better example of the pitfalls of sequels IMHO.

I couldn’t sit through it. Was the ending worthy of your time?

It was a bit odd and you have to be in the mood for it. Yes. The ending was about right. Just silly entertainment nothing more.

Not a movie, but I really enjoyed the 1st season of "Truth Be Told" on AppleTV+. Season 2 started two weeks ago, and has once again drawn me in. Octavia Spencer is perfect in this role, and the supporting cast has been quite good in their own right.

Fury, great movie! UHD, Great sound at the battle scenes but unfortunately no Atmos. Hmmm… if you’re viewing the UHD 4K Blu-ray Disc, I’m almost certain it has a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. It might not be the default and, if not, you would have to specifically select it in the disc’s audio options. I agree that it’s an awesome movie… EDIT: I just confirmed using my own 4K UHD Blu-ray that Fury does, in fact, have a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and it “is” the default. I’m not sure why you didn’t get it, but suggest a re-watch and double check your settings.

"CODA" is a movie on AppleTV+ that I watched last night and just like every other show or movie on AppleTV+ the video and audio were quite good. Yes the audio was in DolbyAtmos and yes the video was 4K/DolbyVision as usual. This movie, as compared to many of the way less meaningful movies I've watched of late, actually had meaning in a way that most of us will never fully comprehend. CODA stands for "child of deaf adults", and reminded me of those things in life that are most of the time taken for granted. I highly recommend this movie if only for the different view of life as most of us know it.
