I too am watching this space for the ERS subs with outboard amplification. I have a feeling that it'll be a very interesting holiday season! Now I've got to behave so Santa notices...

If Emotiva keeps the same design they showed two years ago, the outboard amp mounts on the back of one of the sub woofers. There would be no need to find space in your equipment rack. This was for the ERS-212, a duo enclosure sub using an external DSP Control/Amp. The last I heard, it will have a very robust 1.25 KWatt class D amp. Are you salivating yet? ;D ;D

Yes, something about putting amps in vibrating enclosures with no ventilation does not seem like a sound investment to me. I want to get 4 subs, and I want that investment to last. Hopefully the amp will match the existing Emotiva look...

My 2 Ultra-12s are serving me just fine. Therefore, I have the luxury of waiting patiently for what I want. Right now, the X/REF-15s are on my menu. If they don't tickle my pallet, I'm going to take a serious look at Rythmik. I heard that the ERS Series will have outboard amplification. I just dont have the space and ventillation in my cabinet for additional power amps. Anyhow, based on the reported improvement of the X-REF-12 over the U-12s, I feel pretty confident that the X/REF-15s will not disappoint. I'm with you on this. I recently picked up two X-ref 12's and awaiting for 1 X-ref 15. I also can't afford to add the extra amp into my rack as I'm limited on space with the 6 amps already occupying so much space. If the X-ref 15 is good but i require a little bit more, i would add an additional 15 and stack the 12's for the rear.

But, a 1.25KW power amp mounted on the outside of the enclosure could pose problems such as accidental spills and baby fingers. I am going to have to limit my salivation to the X/REF-15s. ;D

supposedly they have received their shipment of products, including the EARS I have been long waiting for. I think they are testing everything to make sure it's all kosher.

Why so many SUBS?
I'm using 1 Emotiva 12 in my home theater. I had 2 but decided to go much bigger.
My new setup will be 1 Emotiva 12 and 2 JL Audio 13W7AE in a sealed 2.5 cubic feet per sub box. The box will look like a coffee table when I'm done.
The 2 extra subs will be powered by a Behringer EP4000 amp. rated at 2 x 2,000 Watts into 2 Ohms.
For my general listening 1 Emotiva 12 was great. For the times i want to show off or just had to much to drink. I have the the JL Audio subs.
If anyone has listened to these subs they are very musical, even at very high output. They are also the same sub that is used in the Jl Audio Fathom F113's that sells for about $3000 a piece and is highly rated. One of these subs should produce more Clean SPL than 4 Emotiva 12's I purchased mine refurbished 2 for $500. My amp Was used for $200 from a friend. My box will cost me less than $100 when I'm finished.
You are spending allot of money on all those subs in you system.
Just trying to give you another option.
I will keep my Emotiva 12 till it dies it is much more efficient and i had to put the Behringer in the closet due to the fan.

Two more months...and counting. Well, at least I have something to ask Santa for again. Hard to believe these things have been in development for what...well over three years now? On the positive side...the paint in my Home Theater is now four years old. I wonder what's going to happen first - the release of my l-o-n-g awaited subwoofer, or the need to paint the room? Hmmmm..... Ugh....

I have wondered why Emo releases product lines out of order. For instance the Reference speakers and Ultra subwoofers. Why not reference and reference and ultra and ultra? Just a thought..

nothing in the 12/31 podcast either! I've been waiting 2 years for these... and within the last month I have liquidated my sub inventory in anticipation of Emo ERS subs.... If there is no solid announcement by 1/31.... I'm moving on to Rythmic, eD, SVS, Epik, or maybe even Velodyne - I can wait no longer on Emo to come thru. I have an Ultra in my daughters room/system. These are lacking in performance for the big rig in the man cave. The X-Ref's lack some hookup, flexibility and convenience features I desire. Perf. wise, they might suit me. But I want the total package - performance, convenience and setup flexibility. If the ERS' are anything like discussed, hinted at, speculated... they will meet ALL my needs and requirements - but the wait has gotten more than painful, its unbearable!

This time last year is when I finished my wait and exercised another option. I really have been pleased with my ported SVS, but will consider this dual subwoofer option from Emotiva whenever it has it's debut. In the mean time, I'm enjoying the clean room filling bass that the PB12-DSP Plus puts out, and haven't had to be without.
