Well, each time I run Emo-Q I get much different results. It always wants to set the fronts to 250 and it always sets the sub x-over high (over 100). It also wants to push the trim of the sub up t max. Not really sure what is going on here. I just set the speaker trim with my trust RatShack Meter and the trims are definately different than any of the Emo-Q trims I'm getting. Is this with the FW update? Yes, it is.

Just a note for people running the update. The initial install of the update application to a long, long time. I killed it twice when it was "looking for previously installed components". This step took about 5 minutes, which is really a long time. Once I let that go through, everything worked as expected and the update took about 9 minutes.
Why exactly did you use winrar as the archiver? It just seems odd since every version of windows since XP has an unzip application built in...
Also I ran EmoQ for the first time, and I think it's interesting, but ended up with everything bass heavy. I'll have to test it some more to see if I can get some better results.

Not a dig on anybody....but How is that Emotiva is seemingly doing the FW at their place with much better luck..?? Is it possible that the procedure is dependent on the exact same setting that their PC's are using?? Although I do have a special loader that will do a force dump of the code, I don't need it. We have the same software and loader program on all most of the computers here and it just works. So I suspect it has a lot to do with the OS and more importantly, what is running in the background and what firewall etc is running that may prevent the driver from installing.

hey Lonnie, one more question. Is it ok to leave the USB connected to the rear of the UMC after the update? It would surely make life a bit easier for future updates so im not moving the rack back and forth Yes, this is not an issue.

would love to know whether the option for all channel stereo is still there. Sorry but no, the stereo setting was all channel stereo and people didn't like it, so it was changed to basic two channel stereo. Am I missing something, or is Lonnie saying that the UMC-1 had NO 2 channel stereo mode prior to this update?

If it is consistanly reporting 250 for the fronts then that is what it is reading as a the first -3db. Becuase of the high xover on the mains it sets the sub to higher xover as well. Give me a call tomorrow and I can go through the whole process of what it is doing and how it works. I really need to write up a paper on this for everyone, but I just haven't found the time yet.

FWIW, I just ran the update from a 32 bit Vista laptop and had no problems. The only confusing part is in step 17 it says "you will get a message when the update succeeds." Really all that happens is the progress bar reaches 100% and there is a small message in a field on the bottom that says download complete but it's not totally clear that that means the full update is done. I let it sit for 15 minutes to make sure it wasn't doing anything else. From the instructions I expected a pop up stating update complete. Yes, that sounds dumb and nitpicky, but with all the problems people are having, I wanted to make absolutely sure. P.S. - I can also confirm the screwed up inputs.. the names are whacked out and they've scrambled positions. Just do a factory default and load in your settings or run Emo-Q and you good to go.

UMC1_V102_001 seems to update OK. Umc1HDMI_5.46.07_100208 starts but stops after about 10 seconds. No error message, but the status bar indicates: "Send "reset 0" command no response!" Any ideas? I've tried this update on three different laptops (Dells of various vintage) with Vista and XP (all 32-bit) and get the "Send "reset 0" command no response!" message every time. Finally I decided to drag the UMC-1 over to the den and try it with a desktop PC...AND IT WORKED!!! The computer is a DIY AMD-based PC with 32-bit Vista installed and has the exact same software load as one of the laptops. ;D ;D ;D

I wonder if we have a hardware compatibility issue? Is the UMC coming up as a 2.0 or 1.1 USB device? Not all ports on a laptop or PC are 2.0. Some are 1.1 only.

I know my fronts go SIGNIFICANTLY lower that 250 I believe they're rated to about 32-35. I will try to call tomorrow, as I have a short day and the benefit of being a couple hours ahead as well. I really appreciate the offer.

Alright, here we go.I got home read the update Dan posted, then came here to read for any"easy way "to do the update.I ate while thinkin'this don't sound easy and everyone that actually knows how to operate a computer is having problems I surely will.I type with one finger,I'm not a computer wiz by a long shot.I printed the instructions.I downloaded the extractor,as my usual widows version didn't work.I made a folder(god knows how,my first one)ended up with a page that looked like the instructions.I did all this on a Lenovo 510 laptop(I only use to surf while relaxing)nothing special,Vista.
I followed the intructions very carefully, everything happened and looked just like the print out. From start to finish, from the time I plugged in the usb was about 10 minutes, the first few following instructions,it did the rest.
I ended up in stanby mode,I turned it on,went to set up,things were mislabeled as noted,I did a factory default as noted(thanks to whoever did). After I went and set up speakers/levels and inputs.I'm now listening and everything sounds great.I was already happy with the sound,it stilll sounds great.I'll get through the issues that concern me,and post what I find as I do.
I just wanted to give some hope to those that think it's looks or is hard.I thought it was much easier than it sounded.

But not the same USB chipset. I wonder if we have a hardware compatibility issue? Is the UMC coming up as a 2.0 or 1.1 USB device? If it doesn't talk well with the 945 intel chipset, Emo is in for a very bumpy ride. I hope this isn't the case. True, they are likely different chipsets. I don't know if it comes up as a 1.1 or 2.0 device, I've already put it back in my theater. It would be a pain to get it back out again, but I will do it if you think it might help somebody.

All the properties box tells me is that it's Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Intel Pentium 1.60Ghz What do I do!?!?!?!?

Mine had a few glitches getting started with similar load failure errors. I had to disable Windows Firewall and Symantec Endpoint Protection, then it installed smoothly. I power-switch rebooted, loaded system defaults and reconfigured my inputs. I ran EMO-Q without issue. went in and reset my adjustments, and it works beautifully. I'm watching HD content via Direct TV and there is no loss of audio sync. Excellent.

Ok. I've still got problems with this updater. From what I gather, there is no 64 bit version of the updater. You were simply saying to use winrar 64 bit? correct? I really don't see what the difference would be since winrar 32bit should run the same in win 7 64, though slightly slower, perhaps. In either case it's a non-issue since I had winrar 64bit installed long before the umc was even released. Everything works fine until I hit step 6. My computer simply will not except this driver. First it would get stuck trying to load the usbexpress device driver. I found a usb to ps2 adapter and was finally able to get past the locked usb using cntrl+shift+ esc and ctrl+alt+del. I click on the box that says install driver anyway and it does, but windows still does not recognize this device. In the device manager it shows the usbexpress device with a yellow exclamation point. when I click on properties it gives me a paragraph or so under device status about an improper digital signature and ends with Code 52. I have tried numerous ways to correct this. uninstalling reinstalling, safe mode, bypassing the updaters automatic driver install and going with exe under the driver folder (which doesn't require me to hit ctrl shift esc, etc to get to work for those that might be interested), update driver in device manager and point at the x64 directory for the drivers (it tells me the best ones are already installed or it can't find any.) I downloaded XP virtual machine only to find out that my computer's hardware doesn't support it and Microsoft, in all of their infinite wisdom, provides nothing but vague clues as to what "hardware" my computer is missing to get it to work. I'm down to about two options. 1.) Move my entire vista desktop within range of the usb cable 2.) or unhook the umc and take it to the vista machine. Neither one is appealing. I might have one other option where I can use my router as a middle man, but I've never had much luck getting that to work before. Any other thoughts on what I might be missing? Are you doing the driver install with the desktop or another unit? I ask because the instructions state to have the USB hooked up before doing the install of the drivers. Your message indicates that you do not have the UMC connected to your desktop. If this is the unit you are using I assume this would cause issues. BTW, I would move the umc to the PC but depending on your set up either one might involve as much work. You're correct. It's not hooked to my desktop. It's hooked up to my HTPC which is sitting 3 feet away. ;-) I've followed the directions to the letter. I've tried installing and restarting everything between each step. I've tried installing the drivers, then connecting the umc. I've done the run as administrator from about 4 different angles with the same results. I've also done all of that on a small tablet laptop running xp tablet edition. On the laptop I can get the loader going and get it to partially update the unit before something goes wrong. Basically where I'm stuck is that the little connection icon will flash the red x on and off randomly. The laptop only has 2 usb ports. One is completely borked, and the other works as long one holds pressure on the plug in just the right direction... so that could be an issue, but even when holding consistent steady pressure it seems to lose the connection. I have another laptop running vista 32 that I'm going to try. When last I used it it was running fine, except for the fact that it was overheating... burned out cpu fan I think. I've got the back cover removed and a fan handy to give this another shot. If that fails, I'll try rolling my main rig over and give vista 64 a shot. If that tanks, I'll try borrowing my dad or my girlfriends laptop. Both running xp prof I think. I'm going to crack this if it Fraking kills me!!!

Indycolts, Be sure and plug your usb cable into the port that is marked usb data on the back of the umc-1. The instructions say to use a type A usb cable, but the cable you need is a type A to type B usb cable. That's the cable you use on a printer among other things. Don't plug into the usb port on the back of the umc-1. Please someone correct me if I'm wrong.
