I like this feature, but there should be a resolved column where the problem reported has been fixed. Next to that, a column should indicate which version of the firmware was used. Also, I would like to change the sorting - have the newest dates on top and the old ones listed at the bottom.

I am in the early stages of setting up my UMC-1. I got the OSD to work thru component, and was watching cable (Comcast) thru the Moto 3200 box. I was watching a HD movie and things seemed to work right. However, during a commercial, I thought I'd surf the guide and see if something else was on. I picked another HD channel, to take a quick look at MJ's "This is It" video. I watched it for a minute or so, then I get a OSD display showing "Analog Copy Protected Mode (Type 1)". My video went to blue screen, with the OSD on top. The OSD told me to either use HDMI (which I don't have right now) or change the resolution to 480 or 576(?). Once I got this message, I could not get rid of it. (It would disappear on it's own, but I still had a blank blue screen.) Using the remote for the cable box, gave me no change. I could change channel, and get audio, but still the blue screen. I finally went to the cable box and changed resolution to 720 (on the way to 480) and video returned. I have only been working with the UMC for a couple of hours, so I have more setup to do.
I am running the cable box, component out, into the UMC, and component to the display.

I am wondering if it is something particular with the video itself. The Jackson's probably have a real tight lock on MJ's stuff, and maybe it has some sort of copy protection. I am going to see if I can duplicate the problem.

Further to my entry on the DTS versus DD LFE level, the bass in general was bothering me and I traced it to the Emo-Q-set subwoofer (well LFE) EQ setting. I set the LFE EQ flat (removing all the + and -10db settings) and now the bass is much smoother and more defined in both DTS and DD (as it was/is with music). Why the setting should affect DTS more than DD is another question.
The other curious thing is that when I was setting the subwoofer (LFE) EQ using the RTA in REW, which seemed to end up with similar +/- 10db settings as Emo-Q, moving the sliders all the way from + to - 10db only seemed to affect the (all channel white noise used) RTA graph by +/- 3 to 5db.
This may be where the problem lies with how Emo-Q is testing the LFE level too, perhaps a tone-sweep or Pink PN noise (which worked really well for tuning my sub using its PEQ) or some combination of those or other tones would yield better results?
It does seem to show that what appears correct for white noise does not necessarily translate to sounding right.

Also, I would like to change the sorting - have the newest dates on top and the old ones listed at the bottom. Well if you scroll to the right on the tracker form, you will see columns that could contain comments and info like you suggest. You will also see them all blank for the last 4 months.

Nothing wrong with the UMC-1, it's doing what it's suppose to do, block HD content upscaled to 1080 over component. You can thank Hollywood. I am going to run an HDMI cable and a Cat 6 (just in case) to the display. I have figured out a way to run the cables in some conduit, outside the house and along the patio out of the way. This is the best solution, in the long run. I had forgotten about this device, but for about the same price as some conduit and cable, I can have no other 'devices' in my signal path.

I may have missed a thread on this but since I update to B3 I now occasionally am not able to power the UMC all of the way down on the first try. When I hit the off button the unit shuts down the front panel display and the video and audio signals but the front panel power button remains blue and the amp does not get shut down. Pressing the off button on the remote again does nothing. Pressing the front panel power button powers the unit up.

I have had the UMC not shut down entirely a couple of times. I have noticed that if you hold down the off button for a few seconds (less than 5), the shut off seems to work fine.

You mean the button on the remote Jeff or on the front panel? Thanks EDIT: Afterthought... I guess that you mean the remote as there is no "off" button on the front panel, per se.

I did notice something quirky, when you press the off button the "Power Off" message will come on, and then it will do a quick "blink" before powering off. I don't see the quick "blink" when the unit does not power off.
This makes me wonder if there are actually two signals coming from the remote to power down successfully, and if the UMC doesn't get the second signal it gets "stuck" and doesn't power off completely.
I usually just press "on" switch inputs, and press "off" again to get it to power down, but I make sure to keep the remote aimed at the UMC, just like when my universal remote is powering on or off a bunch of items.

The button on the remote. Make sure that the remote is pointing at the UMC and hold it down for 3-5 seconds. Since I have been doing this, no problems.

Thanks Jeff. I will try that. I have not had a problem yesterday or today so far since I have been doing this but it was intermittent before. I will continue to do it this way and report my findings.

I had an unusual situation arise tonight. On another thread, I addressed the "analog copy protection" message I received from the UMC, while watching a cable tv show. I am using the Moto 3400 cable box, HDMI out from that, to the UMC, and component to the display. (I must run a new HDMI cable to the display as I do not have one at present). I received the same message tonight, while watching a movie for several minutes (5 to 10) and then the screen went blue, with the "analog copy protection" message. At this point, I could not get any video on any channel, without changing inputs and re-connecting to cable. I could not watch the particular movie (Good Will Hunting) on that particular channel. I would assume that this message is being generated because the incoming cable signal is telling the UMC that there is a copy protection on this particular channel/movie. I don't understand, however, how I can watch it for so long, and then get the message. Has anyone ever had this type of 'message' come up on another brand of receiver/processor? Is it just an HDMI thing or a UMC thing?

My DirecTv box did this until I ran the HDMI cable. It would play some programs for a few minutes then display the error, other times the error came right up. I had to reboot the DVR each time to watch anything once the message came up. Very irritating and all DTV customer service could tell me was that not all programming is allowed over component cables now.
In my case it was DTV that was sending the error.

Pressing the off button on the remote again does nothing. Pressing the front panel power button powers the unit up. Do you think it's possible you might accidentally have zone 2 "on" without knowing it intermittently? If you power down the main without first turning Z2 "off" if it happens to be on, what you describe is what the unit does to let you know Z2 is still on. Next time it does that and the power button remains blue after you power it down, hit the zone 2 power button from the controller and see if the unit power button doesn't change to amber.
