Overall, the upgrade is good. Emo is aware of the 176.4 kHz issue and I hope they resolve it soon (like, before Christmas would be nice!).

Hello Friends! Here is our UMC Feature and Issue Tracker solution. Please help us collect your issues and requests for the UMC product by using the input form. This will make it easy on all of us to see in one central repository all the needs from the UMC customer base. This will only work with your support and thank you for your consideration. Please press the access icon to open the UMC Tracker Input Form. Once you fill it out please press the submit button. Once you have entered your issue or new feature request you can view all entries by pressing the UMC Tracker View All Entries icon. The master database spreadsheet is secure and can be accessed by Emotiva to add their comments. All entries are immediately viewable. Emotiva can sort the data in several ways for us. I hope this will make our ability to share and view our constructive commentaries on the UMC-1 much easier for everyone. Thanks I updated the theme and added the v07.00.19 Firmware so we can track and then let Eric know it is there for his reference. I can add other options just let me know or add more values to a picklist et cetera. I made a copy of the old problems and the report will start with new ones. Since this was a rewrite of the code it makes sense in my view to start with V07.00.19 as the new baseline. As always thanks for your support. Hi all. I try to keep access to the Form and Report as we advance the pages so folks know where it is. Not sure of a better way to do other than always going to page 1 but those that come into this at page 14 would not know so anyway this is keeping the icons available on each thread page.

I have the "pop" with volume increase issue that many others are reporting.
I also was watching Tron Legacy last night, had the movie paused for a while, then went back to watch and the audio came out very quiet and distorted. I paused and restarted and audio was fine.

So I just got my UMC-1 tonight from a fellow forum member. Browsed through quite a bit of forum blogs and havent seen my issue, so on day one, here is my first error posting!
I have new Mac-Mini. It is the current model that was just realeased ( no built in CD available any longer ) I have it hooked up via HDMI for audio and video. While switching from my PS3 to the Mac Mini (where I had iTunes playing) the audio began playing out of the on board speaker in the mac! then it would stop, then play again, then stop. I'd get audio out of the UMC, then stop, then finally settle in to the way it belongs. REALLY odd! I also noted the first time I tried using my PS3 with the UMC-1 I was fine until I started a game that is Dolby rated ( Battlefield 3 for those who are inquisitive ). The game went to start, and the screen went black with the UMC stating it was in stereo audio mode, with no video. I switched around a bunch of times before finally shutting down and restarting the PS3. I have since changed audio output on the PS3 to Optical with video through HDMI and have had no issues since. Not a problem as I am running a 5.1 system, but it would be aggrivating if I had a big 7.1 system and couldn't use the last 2 channels! I am told by the guy I bought from it has the most recent firmware on it as of about 6 days ago.

Are all updates installed on the Mac? Any HDMI audio options in the settings?

I have the "pop" with volume increase issue that many others are reporting. I also was watching Tron Legacy last night, had the movie paused for a while, then went back to watch and the audio came out very quiet and distorted. I paused and restarted and audio was fine. Pauly was having this very problem after completing the update about 4 times using the "conventional method" However, after doing the update agin this time using the "alternate method" from Sticksandstones, here is what he posted: Alright, FW is done, everything is set up again and...it's brilliant! Reg, thank you so much for posting this! The fourth time is the charm for me lol.
To start off, the update went faster than usual by about 4 minutes(it used to take about 18 minutes for me). Then once I got it set up, everything still works, but it's much better. Video and audio lock is slightly better than my previous .19 loads, I can now use DV on PLIIx and Neo:6 and it sounds great, I don't have the pops any more when going up and down through the volume starting at 50, and the slight crackle/static in the surrounds during certain commercials is now gone. Also, the audio lock with my DVR is fast enough that I ditched my optical cord.
But that's not all. I got very curious(and courageous)and decided to give EmoQ a run. As many of you know, EmoQ has always been terrible for me, and I've always avoided it like the plague. I've even told other people to pretend that its not even there lol. Anyway, I ran the test(still needed to rub my fingers together over the mic to get it to go)and unbelievably it almost nailed my distances for every speaker. The only things that were a little weird, was that it set my surround crossover to 130hz(they're full range towers that I'm using as temporary surrounds)and it set my sub level way down to -8.0.
So I decided to accept it, and made some slight adjustments to the 500hz setting on my center and mains, and took the sub level up to about where I had it before.
I was instantly amazed by how well it sounded with TV, so I decided to watch a little bit of "A Bug's Life" for a proper test. I can't believe I'm saying this, but it sounded amazing with EmoQ! Much much better than I ever got it with manual adjustments. Granted, I never used REW or anything else. The vocal clarity(even at very high volumes)is amazing, the surround info is the best I've ever had, and the bass is very dynamic with huge slam, and it's incredibly well integrated with no excess boom or bloated nastiness that I experienced before with EmoQ.
Needless to say, I'm amazed, and I will be keeping this EmoQ setting for a while. At least until I get the courage to run it again to see if it can improve lol.
The first three times I loaded this FW, it was a great improvement over the previous versions, but this update procedure that Reg has provided is the best thing since canned beer lol. Every new bug I got from .19 is now gone, and everything that was improved works even better now.
The only thing I can find wrong so far, is that it still won't default to "All Stereo" for my PS3. Not a huge deal. I'll keep working on it to see if I can get it to stick.
I can't comment on the True HD problems or the PLIIx problems that people are going through, since I can't bitstream with my fat PS3, and I don't run 7.1 so I don't use PLIIx on the high res codecs. « Last Edit: Dec 9, 2011, 7:07pm by Pauly » Be happy! ;D

clicked on submit and it took me to a pay site that would do a criminal background check on people. Does that mean the site is infected?

This was reviewed with Emotiva prior to launch as was the UMC 200 as without the occassional Emotiva review of the reports then it would not realize its potential value. I tested the icons and they link to googleapps as designed on page 1 and on this page. There is not a virus as this is a hosted app on google so google would have to be infected at their data center. We created the UMC-200 as a pattern to the UMC-1 so we could have a centralized repository where the forum members once they are sure there is no operator error can post an issue. On the same token it is a forum for idea collection. I for one am very glad to have the Emotiva endorsement and I held a web-ex with some of the Emotiva staff giving them the right permissions to delete entries or to comment. This is just another great way that Emotiva embraces an open relationship with its customers and our small way of trying to contribute in a constructive manner.

I would check your system. It is just about impossible to have any virus introduced by this hosted app.

Yes, we happily endorse the new UMC-200 tracker, but from what I understand, he was having issues with the UMC-1 tracker. My post was meant to explain that we did not create the tracker, so if there are any issues, we cannot troubleshoot them.

I understood your message. I did test the UMC-1 Tracker and it is fine as is the UMC-200 tracker. I pretty much try and stay closely aligned to you all on my efforts and glad we can work as a team like we do. I can comfortably state that the fear of creating or spreading a virus from this app has a very low probability of happening. I think the other gentleman is having an aberration on his device.

Hi...please forgive me if this question/problem has already been asked/reported. I had my UMC-1's firmware updated this march. I moved, and all of my equipment was boxed-up until recently. I connected everything only to find that the new firmware no longer supports 176k DSD playback. I contacted Emotiva and was told that if I could find WHICH firmware supported DSD (also 196 PCM from my PS3) they would send it to me so that I could "roll back" the firmware. So, does anyone out there have a UMC-1 that will playback 176 DSD (or 196 PCM)? If so, would you please check which firmware you have installed and post it? To check your firmware, on the remote you: 1) press "MUTE" 2) press "STATUS" 3) press "VOL UP" The firmware version will be displayed on the unit's screen. Here's a link in case my explanation isn't clear: emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/12877THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY HELP!!!
