Nice! It's a little surprising that the XRef-12 is only 6 pounds heavier than the Ultra-12. It looks great though, and has twice the power of the the Ultra. Can't wait to hear it at EmoFest!

They look good. I will be looking forward to reading about how they perform. For me I am committed to Rythmik. Emo was too slow with their 250v subs.
Dave.

Interesting! Will there be a 15" X-Ref offering?

Does anyone know if these are servo controlled or not?

Waiting to hear what people say at emofest this year about this. I need to add the two units to my system.
I guess these aren't the units that Lonnie was talking about that had the built-in room correction?

Now I guess we know what the "Movie" and "Music" trigger outputs of the UMC-1 were intended for... ;D

I guess these aren't the units that Lonnie was talking about that had the built-in room correction? Well... maybe. From the spec sheet: "• Fully configurable two-band parametric equalizer for optimal flexibility and precise room matching (variables: Q, frequency, gain)"

They're disappointing to me, their enclosures are still way to small for my OCD about subs. I wouldn't put a 12" in anything smaller than 3cf and have it vented. Probably doesn't matter for music but for HT there are too many compromises. I won't indulge in a discussion about "slow" vs. "fast" or group delay at this time. I think the size issue is largely one of shipping. It just costs to much to ship anything bigger than 3cf.

Looks good but is surprisingly lightweight. Too bad I didn't know it was coming out this soon or I would have waited and tried it out. I guess that's just the downside of the new policy of not releasing product info till ready to ship. Don't blame Emotiva for that though, after getting beat up about the delays in bringing their Pre-pro to market. It's kind of a danged if you do, danged if you don't situation. The sub looks great though and I look forward to hearing it at Emofest.

Hmmmmmmm. I just received my Ultra 12 a couple of days ago. The DSP feature and larger amp seem pretty damn nice.
Decisions, decisions. Anybody care to guess the kinds of actual differences you should expect vs the Ultra 12. I understand the DSP feature is a pretty nice. What kind of difference is the larger amp going to make? The db is only a couple higher than the Ultra if I am looking at it correct.
I am fairly noobish when it comes to subs.

I understand what you're saying but please understand that your concerns are just not universally valid. The size of the enclosure is determined by the T/S of the driver (primarily Qts, Vas and fs) and that there are MANY drivers out there optimized for smaller enclosures. Indeed, if you put one of them into a large enclosure you'd end up excursion limited with a chance to over-drive and damage the speaker with relatively low power input. It's not all about size, it's about using the RIGHT size for the system's requirements. Oh, and then there's EQ...

I just confirmed on phone with Emo. The Xref. 12 is the same driver as the Ultra 12. Is that good or bad? Same size, same driver, good or bad?

I just confirmed on phone with Emo. The Xref. 12 is the same driver as the Ultra 12. Is that good or bad? Same size, same driver, good or bad? Well, according to the Audioholics review... the Ultra 12 is amp limited, and not driver limited, in it's performance. "Based on my measurements, it's clear that the USub 12 is more amp limited than driver excursion limited. It would be interesting if Emotiva were to up the amplifier power a few hundred watts in their next version offering." - Gene DellaSala, Audioholics So it seems it's a quality driver capable of more performance, which appears to be exactly what you're going to get from it in the X-Ref12 with the more powerful, DSP amp.

Very nice indeed ;D I was thinking in the next few months about getting the Klipsch RW 12D for $550. This seems to have better specs. Of course I would love to buy a high end SVS sub but I don't have the funds to spend $1500 on a sub, this seems to fit the bill perfectly. I will of course wait until there are some reviews by fellow members Ive never actually listened to an Emotiva sub but if it can put the same smile on my face as my UPA 5 it will sound great

if choice was between the velodyne dd 10 and 12 plus or the emotiva xref 10 and 12 cost was no consideration on paper? which would one choose Anybody care to guess the kinds of actual differences you should expect
