Well I played around with everything at Emo headquarters. Cathy and Big Dan let us loose The first room we were in had a ERC-2, XDA-1, XSP-1, 4!!!! Yes I repeat 4 XPA-1's and the X-Ref towers. They were the 6.1's or .2's. Sorry I can't remember what Eric said. The XPA-1's were bi amping the towers. Next to each tower was a X-Ref 10 We listened to some local tunes first then some nirvana. The clarity was bone chilling. Bass response was very smooth and accurate. The second room was the theater. 7.1 setup I believe. UMC-1 using a UPA-7 for power. X-Ref 12's in this room Eric turned Transformers on. The bass was like nothing I've ever heard. It was like my chest was moving in and out lol. Hard to explain. But so much bass Sorry it's been a long day Dude, we haven't even tuned the systems yet. Tomorrow Nick and I will be tuning all the systems so just wait till you hear it all agian! ;D I am sorry I didn't have time to do much more than say hello, so I look forward to seeing you at the show.

Up until last week I thought I was happy with my HT system I knew I wanted to upgrade my sub down the road to something like the SVS but justifying the money was an issue. Now I see the X-ref 12, with the specs and Emo's great customer service and fair shipping prices to Canada it has me wondering ;D I will of course wait until I read some reviews, but I think I found my next upgrade. I can give you a quick review, they rock! Seriously though, these are on a whole new level of performance over the U series. Sound quality, output level, power, versitility and tunability are fab. I think you will love them.

Man I wish I could be there. Those are some pretty promising initial reports from Matt. Sounds like you guys did a hell of a job, Lonnie.

Lonnie, I wish for once you'd LIE TO ME and say they weren't any better! I just got a pair of Ultra 12s a few months ago. I don't know if my marriage can another upgrade in that department so soon!
That reminds me... I need to put on some Jonny Lang.

I don't doubt I could swap them without her noticing. But she would definitely notice the credit card bill.
Anyone have any good tips on how to launder money ?

Spouses should have their own credit cards just is case one is irresponsible, that will not affect the good credit of the other. Also, just in case one spouse passes away or there is a divorce, that aspect of your life will not be adversely affected. Life must go on. Reality check!
I am keeping my 2 U-12s and adding 2 XRF-15s. I can use the 2 U-12s to augment my 2 channel rig and the 2 XRF-15s for the 7.1 theater. Otherwise, use all 4 subs for both 2 & 7.1 playbacks. Isn't great to have several excellent choices? ;D

How big was the room that housed the X-ref 12's? I was going to use my old monitor audio as100 as my rear sub, but I'm thinking I might go 2 Xref 15's for front and maybe a 12 for the rear.

Now, if Emotiva offers the new X-Ref 12 for a "limited time introductory price" that's the same as the Ultra 12 -- because they want to be nice ;D -- then I'm on the phone this afternoon ordering one! You have to say pretty please. When you order. That usually works Sadly, it appears as though this isn't actually the case... I tried getting some type of price concession via email and over the phone -- being very polite and professional in the process -- but the answer was the same either way; that's our price, take it our leave it (not quite that blunt though). I even tried convincing them it was merely a personal Labor Day sale but still no luck. Guess they aren't really as accommodating as initially thought.

The specs are published on the Emotiva web site.
Ultra 12 goes a little lower (22 hz vs 25 hz)
The X-Ref 10 goes a little louder (112 to 115 db vs 110 to 113 db).
Both specs published as typical in room response.

The specs are published on the Emotiva web site. Ultra 12 goes a little lower (22 hz vs 25 hz) The X-Ref 10 goes a little louder (112 to 115 db vs 110 to 113 db). Both specs published as typical in room response. Right, but the specs don't give any frame of reference (+/-3dB for example), and as you said, are listed as typical in-room response. If you look at the measurements in the Audioholics review, the Ultra 12 rolls off sharply just above 30Hz... Based on owner feedback, and as expected, the Ultra 10 appears to roll off even higher. Some users were not getting in-room response down to 22Hz/25Hz with the U12/U10, which isn't surprising given how variable room gain can be, and how sharply the Ultra subs roll off on the low end. I'm curious if the X-Ref10 has a similar response with a sharp low end roll off, or if Emotiva utilized the DSP to get more extension, or perhaps a shallower roll off in the low end.

This subwoofer has really caught my interest. The specifications for the 12 look insane. I can't wait to hear some detailed customer reviews about the X-Ref 12! (*starts saving my pennies. hehe ) May I please ask a question? Is 'typical in-room output' the same as continuous SPL?

I was at EMOFEST and was amazed at the power and sound of these new subs! I bought the X-Ref 12.
I have no doubt that it will do my system justice not to mention that I got it at EMOFEST for $499 ( discounted show price plus $50 in emo-bucks in the emo swagger bag)
Great two days, can't wait till next year!
