Has anyone here tried the Roku streaming stick offered by oppo? If so, how was the picture and sound quality? We are Amazon Prime members so we could stream movies free - or should I say, my wife wants to stream movies because PQ/SQ isn't super important to her (we differ in that regard). I would of course be roped into watching streamed movies with her and really don't want to complain if the quality isn't reasonable. Thanks! Watching a trailer now, sounds and looks just fine through VUDU on the Roku stick. You should be happy with it. Nick

I reckon we will try it then. I have a cat 5 plugged into oppo, do you know if the Roku feeds off that or does it only stream from the wireless?

Got a blu ray pure audio last night and my 105 will not out put the hi Rez off of the disk through the coax. I'm guessing the blu ray is protected and makes you use the analog outs only.

These can only be passed through HDMI - SPDIF does not provide copy protection for the digital formats, nor does it have the bandwidth for the high-res mutli-channel stuff... You can decode+convert high-res audio within the player itself and output as analogue ...but for digital high-res, you gotta use HDMI

I just got my Oppo 103D yesterday along with the Roku streaming stick. I don't use my Amazon Prime account very often for streaming videos, but I think I will start now! The sound quality and video quality are very good, as good as vudu from what I can tell. Everything is being fed into a UMC-200/UPA-700 (all new as well ... the emotiva black friday/blue monday sale was too good to pass up). My only complaints about the Roku stick are: 1) it plugs into the front of the unit therefore sticking out awkwardly (prone to damage)... it also looks very ugly (a minor to major point depending on your preferences), 2) It is only able to stream wirelessly even if the Oppo is hardwired via ethernet. For reliability purposes I wish it could utilize the hard wired internet.

Question for all of you: I have a xantech IR repeater system. I previously hardwired a connection into the IR input of my BDP-83, and it worked well (I used the BDP-83 specific mono to stereo 3.5mm plug to go from my repeater into the back of the 83). Everything worked great. With my new 103D, I replaced the stereo to mono 3.5mm with a standard 3.5mm mono cable per the requirements in the user manual (the new Oppos do not require the oddball stereo to mono cable that the 83 did). Unfortunately, this doesn't work.
I was able to to turn the 103 on using the repeater and then it would only inconsistently respond to IR commands very sporadically. Thinking it may be an issue with the xantech system not playing nicely with the Oppo, I instead used the IR output from my UMC-200 (which is also hardwired to the Xantech repeater and works perfectly). Same thing, very intermittent, difficult to predict functioning of IR commands, basically not functional, when sent through the IR repeater system. BUT, this system worked fine when I pointed the remote at the UMC-200 directly (bypassed the repeater and bypassed the Oppo IR receiver... the user manual states the IR sensor on the 103 is disabled when a cable is plugged into the rear IR input). This, to me, is the really weird part of this equation. Based on this scenario, the IR input on the 103 is working, and the cable is not damaged. IR codes are transmitted perfectly to the UMC-200 (so the repeater system is working). I am perplexed about what might be going on. I am going to give Oppo a call tomorrow and see what information they can offer.
For now I have an IR emitter stuck to the front of the 103 and this is working well, although I prefer a wired connection.

That doesn't solve the aesthetics problem but definitely helps with the sticking out problem. I just put in an order with mono price a few days ago, but I will have to put in one more it seems . Thank you!

You're very welcome! Make sure to order the 270 Degree adapter I linked to and NOT the 90 degree as that will point it down and not clear the height (or lack of) of the oppo.
The aesthetics don't bother me as it's pretty much out of sight when the door is closed. You could always paint it black to blend in...... Good luck!

Bluray player literally just crapped the bed. To finally pull the trigger on the Oppo103 or not?

hey people, your Crazy Uncle Solarrdadd just ordered a 105. i am curious, this question is for 2 channel analog folks only.
do you have the 2 channel analog output connected to a pre-amp or direct to an amp?
if you have tried both, which did you prefer and why?
please state the pre-amp & amp brand and models. for good measure, throw in the speakers too!
mine will be connected via RCA'S to either my with USP-1, UPA-200 & Polk Audio SDA-2 speakers
OR
RCA's direct to UPA-200 & Polk Audio SDA-2 speakers. it will also be connected to my network for hi-rez FLAC & DSD streaming.
thanks people.

How is the oppo app for the 103/105? I mean in regards to listening to music via attached storage or dnla. For me it would only be a sometimes thing, not a daily driver.

From a purely audio perspective, both two channel and surround what would be a "better" purchase?
Marantz av7701 (1099.00 refurbished) or oppo 105 (1199.00 new) I know they are very different products, but oppo seems to have blurred the lines. I understand there will be no room correction with the oppo, so I guess I just don't know what product will offer the best performance as a preamp.
Is there other options in this price range on par with the audio performance?
Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions

I use the app on an Android tablet. I like it because I don't have to turn the TV on to select songs. It's faster too because you direct select the file rather than scroll to it for selection. It also includes a remote for the Oppo.
