I have had the 103 on my future upgrade list for a while to replace my 83, but I went ahead and ordered it last night.
I have been waiting on the XMC-1 like so many others. A couple of weeks ago the video out on my Onkyo SC886 died. Running video dirrect to the displays was my work around. But now the audio out on it is also failing. Though there may be some limitations, I am hoping to use the analog outs of the 103 dirrect to the amps instead of using any processor til the XMC ships. The STB will need to feed into the Oppo since my TV is only a monitor. For Roku I guess I need the streaming stick plugged into the front imput.
Your thoughts on this plan please...
Ann

Ann My son is currently feeding his UPA-500 directly from a 103 and it's working very well but not a versatile as a full fledged processor. In a way, he's waiting for the XMC as well because when I get one, he's taking the UMC. If you have any plans of playing DSD material direct to analog, forget about it. The Oppo will not control the volume of a DSD signal converted directly to analog. Just make sure you set SACD output to PCM and all will work fine.

Thanks Geebo,
I looked locally to see if I could find anything used that would do the job temporarily, and could not find anything less than $200. That's to much if I only need it for 2 months.

Ann If you think like a mathematician...and you're considering the XMC-1... Get a UMC-200. With the 25% upgrade card for the XMC-1, you're basically getting the UMC-200 for $100. Use it until the XMC-1 arrives and then repurpose it or sell it.

I will say that if you want to have just the player and amp setup then the 105 would be the way to go. I have one connected directly to a UPA-200 and love it. If you want to connect to a pre-amp/receiver via HDMI then stick with the 103. For me, I love the sound I get from the 105, no matter the source, blu ray, DVD-a, SACD/DSD, cd's, HD-CD, hi-Rez FLAC, DSD downloads, mp3, iTunes no matter, that player hasn't let me down yet. Good luck and keep us posted.

The actual reason to not talk about the DC-1 is if you don't own one... several here have expressed their opinions having actually tried the DC-1 (both positive and negative) and they haven't received a "site beating".

Just unboxed and used my 103D for the first time today. Haven't taken the time to play around with the darbee features or any of the other settings yet, but I can say I am thoroughly pleased with the loading speeds of bluray compared to Visio and Samsung bluray players I've used. This thing flies! Especially compared to the Vizio. Almost have time to pop a bag of popcorn before that one loads the movie.

stoudtlr, If you read anything in your life at all, PLEASE read the instructions to your new toy. (103 ) It will allow you to fully utilize all of the advantages of owning the Oppo 103D. This is the best advice I can give you,,,,and the most useful, and well worth the time to do it line by line. Did I stress that anyone making this purchase should read the instructions line by line?,,,,,,,,,,,, Peace, Nick

Anyone know if Oppo has plans of adding Amazon Prime streaming? Hard to say. Oppo is pretty tight-lipped when it comes to new/added features. If you must have it, you could get the Roku streaming stick which plugs into the front HDMI port.

roku stick is an option, just keep in mind it cannot piggy back the oppos Ethernet port. you are stuck with a wireless only connection. depending on location, it may not matter to you. for me, I demand an Ethernet connection for streaming as my HT is in a basement with poor Wi-Fi.

Does the Oppo 103D automatically change inputs when a bluray disk is inserted or do you always have to do so manually(assuming rear hdmi is my default)?

Today I went to the 2015 Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Imagine my surprise when I saw this OPPO BDP-105 sporting “TIDAL” in the display. I learned that OPPO released beta firmware in August that supports TIDAL.
Tonight I updated my OPPO BDP-103D with the beta firmware. This must be done manually because it’s a beta release. Here is the beta firmware for my OPPO BDP-103D. Release date: August 10, 2015. Category: Latest Public Beta Test Release Main Version: BDP10X-79-0711B Loader Version: 6U1000 or 7B1400 (BDP-103), 7B1400 (BDP-105, BDP-105D, BDP-103D)
The TIDAL icon makes it’s first OPPO appearance.
It takes two free software components to make this work. One is the OPPO beta firmware and the other is the OPPO MediaControl App v4.0 on your smartphone or tablet (iOS or Android). After the MediaControl App is installed, open the app, select TIDAL, enter your user ID and password and start streaming. As you can see, the user interface looks very similar to the TIDAL app, at least on the iPhone 6. The MediaControl App controls the TIDAL programming on the OPPO.
Here’s what the TV displays.
It seems to work best if you Exit the OPPO MediaControl App first, when you're finished streaming.
I decided the beta software was acceptable for use after a two hour test drive with the OPPO and XMC-1. Because the OPPO sounded comparable to the SONOS Connect while streaming TIDAL, the SONOS was moved to the office to accompany the DC-1 and Airmotiv 6s’.
Happy streaming…

Figured I'd point out 2 interesting observations as I own both the 103 and 105 for nearly a year. 103 in the theater and the 105 in the upstairs 2 ch room.
103 has been a solid machine but I've had 2 substantial problems with the 105. (non Darby)
1. Any cable longer than 20' and the picture either looks awful or shows a blue/blank screen. I've tried many types of different cables, signal boosters, HDMI repeaters etc. Same results. The 103 has 25' cable and picture is flawless.
2. The 105 often freezes at the :04 mark when I put in an audio or SACD.
I've done firmware upgrades, hard resets to factory defaults etc. Nothing has changed any of this. I suspect the freezing is a bigger issue and will be sending it to Oppo when I get back in town. Scott

Scott sorry to hear about issue #2. I have two 105's one Darby and one non Darby and I've never experienced either of the issues you mentioned when it comes to disc playing. I use SACD's DVD-a, XRCD, HDCD, CD & Blu-Ray audio (as well as movies) and have not had this issue. did you always have this issue with the 105 or did it start recently or did it happen once and a while but is now happening a lot? have you contacted oppo about it yet, if so, what did they say? please keep us posted.
