I know one thing after today. There will be a Bob Carver tube amp driving these puppies as soon as I can get my hands on it I'm thinking that a pair of XPA-1Ls may be the ticket as the final amps. With the efficiency of these guys the 1Ls would seldom come out of class A. Chuck, make up your mind... ...

It will be some time out regardless of which I do. Crossovers are shipping Monday. At $850 for the pair I'm out of cash anyway! And, it will all depend on what Emotiva comes out with tube-wise.

Also got the static test data on the crossovers. This is done with static resistive loads. Note the interesting crossover slopes.

I understand the need to wait for Emotiva tube products, and I certainly understand being out of cash! ..

"Into resistive loads" (AKA simulated on a computer) because otherwise that crossover graph would be impossible.

"Into resistive loads" (AKA simulated on a computer) because otherwise that crossover graph would be impossible. No not simulated on a computer, I've had those graphs for weeks. These graphs were actual tests of the completed crossovers. Look in the Klipsch/Extreme-Slope/Low-Pass section of www.alkeng.com/ Mine are just modifications of this design with a crossover at 700Hz.

The actual crossovers were delivered by Fed-Ex this afternoon. It's gonna be a fun weekend! Note last photo is just a frame of reference photo with my usual reference.

That will be fun. I didn't know that crossovers smoked

Cool, but still, it's into resistive banks not actual loudspeaker impedance. I'm sure they will work great, it's just the slopes will be quite a bit different once connected to actual voice coils.

Absolutely correct. I sent measured impedance sweeps of the actual drivers to Alkeng to do the simulated design. Those graphs show various bumps due to resonance etc. as you would expect.

In preparation for putting the DIYs online this coming weekend, I pulled my old Cornwalls up from storage to run with all the new electronics. These are the speakers that I want most to compare to. The old '73s sure still sure sound good. In fact so good that I may rethink my desire for a tube power amp!!!! Should have pictures of the new ones at the end of the coming weekend. Please note that the Cornwalls were half way through a rebuild when I decided to switch to the smaller Heresy IIIs on my HT, so excuse their looks.

Wow! Monster it is! You could probably read by the glow of 32 tube filaments in a stereo pair!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK Chuck, I like you too much to let it slide - Any chance of you quitting the cancer sticks? I'd hate to lose the best Klipsch expert I know due to lung cancer.
I know it's none of my business, but if I didn't care I wouldn't bother...

Finally DONE! OK, nobody can accuse me of going too fast! Got my replacement driver in and everything seems to be OK. Only need to get my XDA-2 back and I can try the entire new system. As soon as I change the lab back into a living room I'll take pictures of all.

Almost there, Chuck.
Where'd you find those K28s?

Almost there, Chuck. Where'd you find those K28s? See PM. Only issue with the K28s is that they are 4 ohm drivers. I had to wire in series.
