Gentlemen -
I'm on the verge of buying one or two PSA SB-15 subwoofers. Before I do, I need to ask if Emotiva plans to offer anything comparable? I don't need specifics (nor an availability date), just a general statement that either "no, Emotiva will have subs, but significantly different in design," or "yes, you might want to wait before buying."
Thanks - Boomzilla

As usual I have very little to add..My understanding is PSA uses XS designation for sealed..SVS uses SB..

Yeah - I play fast & loose with model numbers! Even so, y'all know the sealed 15" model I mean.

Certainly Emotiva will eventually have a new subwoofer line. But if you need one now, you can't go wrong with Power Sound Audio. And then later you can always make a change if you choose.

I've taken Mr. Yohn's advice. When Emotiva has a product for sale, I'll assess it then. Mr. & Mrs. Garbulky are invited when the massive hulk arrives. Since I may yet prefer the Emotiva offerings, I've ordered but a single sub. In my room, it should work without issue. I'm still measuring the room for ATS room advice. Regardless of what ATS advises on room correction, the sub should compliment whatever speakers I eventually choose. Comments to follow re sub.
On another issue, Garbulky has commented several times that my room has "grunge." I believe he's right. EVERY speaker that I've tried has a "volume ceiling" above which the speaker becomes completely unlistenable. I know that not all of the speakers I've owned sound bad at high volumes. I also know that since I have had multiple sources, DACs, and amplifiers in the system that they're not the grunge sources either. That leaves the room. If every speaker tried sounds bad at high volume, then the room reflections are almost certainly contributing.
Although the room is fine for bass, and although a variety of ATS panels are installed, the room is also asymmetrical from left to right. I know that the reflections are unbalanced because when I play the "out of phase" test cut from the Stereophile disc, the left out-of-phase signal sounds almost 90-degrees out beyond the left speaker. The right out-of-phase signal, however, is only slightly beyond the right speaker. Hopefully, ATS can fix this.
So change is coming to chez Boom. Stay tuned for details.

Boomzilla, At emofest I seen a passive speaker sealed 18" speaker in a unfinished cabinet. I know that emotiva is researching a bigger line of speaker and this was one of the things that were a prime candidate to bring in house during the made in the USA discussion between Mark, Lonnie and myself. Mark did get a picture of the speaker. I do not remember if he posted it or not.

Tony - Yes - Mark was kind enough to post the photo of that 18" prototype (which I'm HIGHLY interested in).
pop - Yes - An HV15 is headed my way.
Subs, schmubs - The room acoustics are more important! I have high hopes for the ATS team...

You will need GARBULKY to help you get it in the house!

Subs, schmubs - The room acoustics are more important! I have high hopes for the ATS team... Me too! And with those subs....bass traps will be important (despite a relatively smooth bass sweep). I hope you mentioned to them that you were buying that sub. Nodes that were not excited by speakers that have less "PURE UNADULTERATED POWER" may rear its head. I really hope this works out well for you. And hopefully your house will resemble something like this: I will search for some amazing bass songs. Not the dubstep dance genre which though pounding doesn't get all the way down there. I'm sure N88dogg will chip in with some suggestions.

Oh, I've GOT some sub-test music - Everything from Don Dorsey to E. Power Biggs, to D.J. Magic Mike. (Yes, I like a WIDE range of music...). And yes, I will notify the ATS folks that sub(s) will be singing (grunting?) in the choir.
I've also had world-class subs in here before: M&K MX350-THX, Definitive Technology Trinity, etc. I know what they should do & will be holding the PSA sub to very, Very, VERY high standards.
Let the rumble begin...

You will need GARBULKY to help you get it in the house! Gar has a back not made for heavy lifting. Me? I'm big, strong, & stupid! (well, maybe not so much the first two anymore)... I do, however, have the kids at the UPS store to help me load into the mini-van and a good dolly to use at the house. If it's too much for me, a friend who is younger & stronger will be happy to work for beer & pizza. Cheers - Boom

Enjoy Boom, can't wait to hear your impressions. Seems like the XV15s have some stiff competition to hold up to. Let me know if you have any questions dialing them in.

If you have "Bass Bowl" the track "Here comes the rude boy" is KILLER for testing subs. I have been in cars that were difficult to sit in with that track playing. One of my referece tracks for testing bass output (and the durability) of subs.

Yes, we are planning to introduce some new sub models. No, there is no exact time frame yet. No, there are no details yet (we are still finalizing them).

If you want Bass….and I mean Rock Bottom…..try the Saint Saens Symphony #3 'With Organ'. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphony_No._3_(Saint-Saëns)The long tube on a pipe organ produces a MUSICAL tone of 16hz and is guaranteed system tester. Not ALL recordings of this piece are…or have….a reliable 16hz tone. The 'test disc' which came with my HSU sub DOES have a very good recording of this piece and it is a house shaker. WARNING: Start out a LOW LEVELS since many systems simply can NOT take this a high levels. Turn it UP gradually…and wait for the house or apartment to Rattle.
