+1 to garbulky. Given the original post was on AVS, it has very little credibility to me at this point. It may turn out to be true, but I have seen a lot of misinformation over there. So to the OP here...just call them yourself if you want to hear for yourself.

This was the last official post about Dirac and the upgrade. Here's the latest about Dirac.... This is the latest information as of Friday - anything you may hear from Big Dan in Atlanta supersedes it The XMC-1 will come with a version of Dirac Live that will do its thing just like the full version, BUT WILL BE LIMITED TO ONE PRESET ROOM TARGET CURVE AND ONE RESULT CURVE. * This version comes with the XMC-1 - at no additional cost. * You will only be able to use this version with the XMC-1 - not with other devices or as standalone software. * It comes with a single preset target curve - you can't change the target curve and you can't add or create other target curves. * It uses a single room result curve - you get one "result" when you run it, which you can use or not. (If you run it again, the new results will replace the original results, which will be discarded; you can't save multiple result curves and pick between them.) There will be an "upgrade version" available - for $99 (latest info there - as of yesterday) * You will still only be able to use it with the XMC-1 - and not with other devices or as standalone software. (It is pretty much the full version - only "locked" to only work with the XMC-1.) * This version WILL allow you to edit or create multiple target curves. * This version WILL allow you to save multiple result curves and choose between them. (You can run multiple times with the same target curve, but with different equipment or microphone placements; and/or you can create and run with different target curves.) You will be able to run the XMC-1 with the "full, commercial" version of Dirac Live (which will list it as a "supported device".) * The full commercial version WILL run as standalone computer software. * The XMC-1 will be listed as a "supported device". Had to go back to the old Dirac PC thread for this tidbit from Keith..... "The Dirac software itself is done, but our software guys and their software guys are still working out a few details. (We're going to make sure that the version of Dirac you get in the XMC-1 does everything it needs to; they want to make sure there are at least a few reasons left why you might want to upgrade to the $900 "premium version." Originally he said that there would be one (or possibly two) preset cutves early on. Now it looks like there wil only be one offered on relaese. Can someone at the show pin them down on the upgrade availability and pricing for the full Driac Live? Thanks!

Not being privy to the conversation that might be the source of this rumor - - it is possible the employee said the $99 upgrade may not happen, and simply meant the upgrade would cost more.

Here we go again.. unsubstantiated rumor appears, people start commenting, some already assume it is true, speculation runs rampant. Someone may suggest to call Emo to get this cleared up but no one does. Instead they keep speculating then demand that Dan appear to straighten this out and when he doesn't, it gets uglier and uglier. WHY DOESN'T SOMEONE JUST CALL EMO AND FIND OUT instead of believing someone at AVR who may have some sort of anti-Emo agenda? Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't but speculation isn't going to prove anything. Me, I don't own an XMC-1 and don't intend to so I don't care, but I do get tired of reading the same old threads where people squawk and squawk instead of doing something constructive like attempting to find out the truth from the source.

Geeze - I just asked a question...
I also pointed out that a lot of the info over at AVS has been wrong. misleading and with an anti Emotiva bent - I merely asked for clarification since the poster was saying the info came direct from Emotiva.
I also explained why I posted vs called.
You can put down your torches and pitchforks now...

Well you did start a thread about a pretty touchy subject which just happened to be a rumor. Did you not think you would get a reaction?

Wouldn't the best clarification come from contacting someone in authority at Emotiva and getting the scoop straight from them? I am not criticizing you but with all the responses that your post generated, it seems that the best way to handle it would be to get an answer directly from Emo. With all the speculation, we might as well have started a poll asking people if they believe there is a delay or not, and then the majority answer wins.

The post was an attempt to prevent speculation - that's why I asked the question in the first place.... I already covered my reasoning on posting vs calling last night.... I could call and get an answer - and then it's another anonymous poster on the internet saying "Well I heard that's not true". A clear concise answer from Emotiva staff here clears it all up for everyone with no room for BS - and note the post was a question not a statement. I'm digging the XMC-1 a LOT and was looking forward to purchasing this Dirac upgrade. But my all means continue to sharpen the pitchforks... I'm a happy customer who's already paid for an XMC-1 and wanted clarification - I think your seeing malice where none exists.

I haven't read anything to the equivalent of torches and pitchforks, people just disagree with your method. If anyone here knew anything different than what has been posted (that there WILL be a $99 upgrade) there would already be a thread or announcement, you won't get an answer here and in effect you are just spreading a rumor. You don't need to get defensive, just call, if it's true you should get the same information. If not it's an unsubstantiated rumor.

Some folks react to anything less than positive regarding the XMC-1 as if it were a personal attack against their child. Comical actually. It is obvious your question was just that, a question, and there was nothing malicious with your inquiry. Silly you for thinking you could resort to asking something regarding a product on the manufacturer's very own forum! That doesn't make sense at all.

I'm a happy customer who's already paid for an XMC-1 and wanted clarification - I think your seeing malice where none exists. I don't think anyone is saying you are malicious. What I am saying is that the best way to answer a question about something is to go to the source that would have the most accurate answer. In this case, that would mean calling Emotiva and asking someone high up enough in the chain who would have the knowledge needed to properly answer that question. If you had done that and so stated in another post what that response was and from whom it was received, I think people would believe you. I would. Then it would be up to the reader to decide if they believed the actual response from Emo or not. It's like if you were wondering what grade a classmate received on a test. Wouldn't the best thing be to ask that classmate what their grade was? I suppose you could go around the class speculating with others what you all think that grade was and most likely someone would have a rumor about how they were in tight with the teacher and the teacher told them all the grades, but the best thing would be to just ask the classmate. Then it is up to you to decide if you believe them or not, but at least you got the answer from the source instead of speculating.

I agree, the question was simply that, a question. But that particular question was one that would generate a lot of interest and lead to a lot of speculation. My point in all this is not that it was wrong in any way to have made the original post, my point is that through all of this, none of the people who are so concerned about it bothered to pick up the phone and call Emotiva.

What else have I been wrong about in life ? The sky is still blue right ?

From another forum : "When I called Emotiva to delay my order (a few days ago), I was told the $100 upgrade for Dirac may or may not happen. If it does not happen, the product becomes even more of a boat anchor." Is that true - if so it would be very dissapointing ? Just trying to nip rumors in the bud before they become internet "Fact"... I'll chime in and clarify that we did not tell a customer on the phone that Dirac may or may not happen. It was definitely a misunderstanding if the caller heard it that way. What mostly likely happened is that he asked about an ETA, and our customer service/sales person probably said he or she didn't have any info to share yet. We can squash this rumor now. The $99 upgrade for Dirac is on track. We'll share an ETA and more information about it as soon as we can. If for the any reason the Dirac upgrade, or any other product or program was changed or cancelled, you'd see a public announcement from us here on the forum and in a podcast. It would never be something that was shared in passing on a sales/customer service call. We may not be perfect, but we try very hard at being upfront with our customers. If you are ever curious about rumors, we are happy to take your calls and emails as well.
