So have you gotten it yet? Waiting to hear how it does with those Sens. Don't have it yet, the Emotiva site shows it will begin shipping Nov 7, so about another week before I get it! Update: Just got home from a long day of work to find an e-mail from Emotiva saying my A-100 shipped. Looks like they're shipping four days ahead of the date on the A-100 product page!

Since this puts out 440mw at 300 ohms and the HD600 is rated at .2 Watts this should drive them fine with plenty of headroom to spare. Can't wait to hear your review about the pairing. I have the HD650's. Looks like the HD650's are rated at 500mw long term max input power. I always thought the 600 and 650's were rated the same.

What counts are Impedance and Sensitivity. CNET lists the sensitivity of the HD650 @103db. I'm not familiar with the DISTANCE this implies, since 1 meter away is meaningless for headphones. Headphones, like speakers, do NOT 'have watts'. 500mw for most headphones would be VERY loud, indeed. Test Data for a LOT of different headphones. I think they use some kind of 'artificial head /ear' for these measurements. www.innerfidelity.com/headphone-measurementsSense headphones are so darn sensitive, I'd be looking at how QUIET any given amp was.

I heard novisnick's TA-100 this past weekend driving Tekton Pendragons. We used both the (Sabre) DAC in the Oppo BDP-105 and the ( Wolfson - excuse me - Burr-Brown) DAC in the TA-100. BOTH sounded most excellent! The Wolfson Burr-Brown had a tad more bass (a plus for most recordings). But the TA-100 is just amazing as a great value. I may eventually get one just to have as a backup. It impressed me that much.

Just got home from work and the UPS driver hasn't made it to my house yet, but the tracking says it's out for delivery so I'll patiently wait while my spaghetti sauce simmers a bit more!!!

............not to mention I already have the RCA interconnects hooked up to the outputs on the DC-1 ready to go.

I figured I'd post my initial thoughts on the A-100 that I posted in the other headphone amp thread in the "Headphones and Headphone Amp" section.
Well I've got the A-100 connected to the RCA outputs from the DC-1 using the Auto Triggering(Audio Signal Sense), source is a Tascam CD-200SB CD/Media Player. I've thrown in a few CD's I'm quite familiar with Billy Joel/Hybrid/Diana Krall/Al DiMeola/Aaron Copland, in other words an array of different types of music. I've not used the jumpers to bypass the resistors on the headphone output as of yet, and already the A-100 has WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more control of my HD600's than the DC-1 had at any and all volume levels. This just makes me wonder what the full speaker output signal will do with even less efficient planar magnetic headphones. KeithL is right, the A-100 is super quiet, noise floor is what I'd say as non-existent, as I can't hear any hiss at all when idle. I'm thinking that the true signal of the transport and DAC are what I'm hearing and that the A-100 is as neutral as all other Emotiva amps I've heard. I believe I'm hearing small nuiances in the music that were there already there but are now more than sufficiently being amplified, thus hearing it more clearly.
While I'm absolutely no headphone amp expert, the A-100 has by far exceeded my expectations thus far and the control it has over my HD600's is quite impressive.

Hot diggy dog!!! 1.3 watts @ 300 ohms!!! $200?!?! SWEET MOTHER!!!! BTW, in normal mode how come the power output looks lower on the lower impedances but rises to 300 ohms. Is that because of the resistor?

lonnie, I was wondering if the background noise will be below audible level with sensitive In-Ears such as my Westones at high SPL. Thank you beforehand for sharing your expert opinion on this.

I have a set of Westone in ear monitors and I didn't hear any background noise when playing with the unit. Just keep in mind that this thing has a lot of horse power behind it, so carefully bring up the level the first time out. With IEM it won't take much. Lonnie

8.5 watts into 50 ohms sounds more than adequate to drive the He 6 (50 Ohms, 83.5 db sensitivity), and that's the good news. Headphone/Amp synergy is, however, not merely about power on tap, and that is the rub. I would reallylike to hear the impressions of someone who gets to try the He-6 on this unit. The mini-x A-100 was excellent for the Hifiman He-500, when the headphone is hooked up using speaker taps. Is the A-100 tuned the same way as the mini-x A-100?

AMP QUIETING is KEY. A noisy amp will just be annoying. And don't forget that for speakers, sensitivity is measured at 1 meter, clearly WAY too far for headphones. Headphones are measured using some kind of 'artificial head'. The coupling of ear to driver is very 'intimate'. www.theheadphonesguide.net/headphone-sensitivity/Headphone sensitivity is at ONE MILLIWATT. 8500mw into an 83.5db sensitive ear speaker? Crush Your Head.
