I'm gonna write the guy that does my books before I call my Insurance guy. Good idea if not a deal-breaker expense.
Here in SoCal, EarthQuake insurance isn't a bad idea and you'd ALL better look up the definition of FLOOD as it pertains to insurance.

Ok, so now I have a question, Not really thread related, but since most all of the heavy hitters on this forum have responded to this thread and are likely to see my reply, I'm gonna let er rip. Insurance-wise, do you guys carry a separate rider on insuring just your electronics above and beyond the standard content insured value of your home so you have an extra buffer to ensure that you can replace your goods at market value? Just curious, as it seems that it could be something serious to think about. I do not. But, whether you need to or not depends on your policy and what you own and what type of coverage you need. Net, no amount of asking here will really help. In my case, my home owners policy is sufficient to cover the contents I have, including my a/v gear with no other policy. It is covered for fire, theft, major storm (tornado), etc. I am not at risk of flooding unless my creek rises 40' above base level or the Ohio or Miami Rivers rise above a few hundred feet. So, flood insurance? Uh, I would have bigger problems to worry about if I need that. Now, if I loved in a floodable zone, if I owned diamond encrusted gear with a million $ of bling on it, or if my basic homeowners policy was really low-ball for contents...then, I might need to look at a change. Mark

KLINEMJ, Look up the INSURANCE definition of flood. I suspect you'll be surprised.
According to the 'insurance dictionary'……..
**A flood is a general and temporary condition where two or more acres of normally dry land or two or more properties are inundated by water or mudflow.**
This can happen nearly ANYWHERE and even as a result of a broken pipe on neighboring property. it can happen in places that get virtually NO rain or rain so seasonal as to be laughable.

Look up the INSURANCE definition of flood. I did... it says the insurance won't cover floodings of online forum threads.

I was curious about that as well. I swear when it was first available it was for $199, then noticed the sale price of $195 was based off a pricing of $229. Either they originally priced it wrong, or they artificially inflated the regular price to make the deal look good

I swear when it was first available it was for $199, then noticed the sale price of $195 was based off a pricing of $229. Either they originally priced it wrong, or they artificially inflated the regular price to make the deal look good Hair Nick said he put the wrong price on the initial posting of the product on Emo's web site and corrected it yesterday. That said, I just received my A-100 (luckily purchased before they noticed the error) and even at the correct $229 price it is worth it, even more so at the current $195 sale price. I'll have a more detailed review up after the weekend but my preliminary impressions are highly favorable. The amp comes securely boxed, and inside the typical Emo protective bag. It looks expensive, feels very solid and robust and I like the versatility of its having a volume control and headphone jack (I bought it to use as a headphone amp), along with pass-through RCA outlets and a trigger that can be used either with a 1/8" cord or auto turn-on when it senses a signal. The volume control has a nice solid feel when turning it. I listened to several tracks last night with my Senn HD-800's and it drives them with authority. As others have said, it's very quiet. I haven't had a chance to compare it with my Schiit Valhalla 2 yet but just from my initial listening, I'm very pleased. The sound is clean, detailed, and bass is very well defined.

For the 200$ (give or take) ask, this amp is a nice START. Paired with appropriate speakers of good sensitivity and easy loading along with a good source, I don't see any problems. You could even send the kid to College with this as a 'core' component.
For such minimalist system, the pass thru might not be needed but for late nite listening or while studying? Headphones are a MUST.
I don't know of anything else in this space. Some cheaper amps (T-amps and such) while everything else is MORE.
The only way to beat this would be to get LUCKY at the local DAV or GOODWILL.

I knew that the A-100 would be available by now... so why did I check in here? I'm out $195 as of late this AM - it should get out today - and I'll see it Mon or Tues (I'm NE of Birmingham - ~150 mi from Emo-land!). It'll be 'in reserve' for my mini-X, which is nearly a year old now (Amazon: $149!). Right now, the mini-X is fed by an Onkyo C-7030 CDP and drives now a pair of '77-vintage Klipsch Heresy's. My year-old Klipsch RB-81ii's, replaced a month back by the Heresy's, are still in place - I could daisy-chain the line output to the new A-100 and run two more speaker leads... there, a use already - and before my CFO got home from work!
Damon at Emotiva checked for me - the headphone jack disconnects the speaker load (Relay?).
Also - maximum power transfer occurs when the source impedance is matched by the load. Assuming that the output impedance is then essentially the same as the 220 Ohm resistor, and the output voltage is 20Vrms, the power output would maximize at 220 Ohm load at 455 mW, and fall off as you left that impedance. The 20Vrms value would yield 50W at 8 Ohm load with the resistor shorted... 'potentially' dangerous with low impedance headphones (Pardon the pun!).
Another function of the headphone resistor is to require some advancement of the gain control to mask background hum and noise, whether from poor power supply filters, bad lead dress, or even gassy tubes!
Still no tracking number... I wonder if it will ship today?

Well, still no shipping confirmation or order number or tracking number - just my CC receipt, which was timed hours after I placed my order. During the ordering process and the call after getting the CC receipt I was assured that it would get out today and I'd have it Monday. Oddly, I just checked my order history - the last entry was last December. I'll call Monday. I know... patience is a virtue... it just doesn't happen to be one of my virtues!

The RULE is that NOTHING happens while you are examining it. Once you distract yourself (go to a movie or dinner?) things will happen very quickly indeed.

I'm mainly interested in the headphone use. I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD600's that could really use something good for it!

Emotiva used to be about overkill. Offering something just better in every way for the price. I felt like they had strayed a bit with their current line offering nothing of great excitement. But the Bas-X A-100 puts them back in the game with its headphone output! I just hope they got it right. Not many headphone amps out there that can provide this power at the price! Right now their current must have products - DC-1, , XPA-1 gen 2, Bas-x a-100 (still to be decided!) .

I've got a pair of Sennheiser HD600's that could really use something good for it! Won't be listening until later, but the HD800's are power hungry and the A-100 drives them easily. I'll try the HD650's with them later as well but I suspect those will be no problem either.

HD-800 is 100db sensitive @1mw input. Power Hungry? NOT. What is the impedance of the '800?
Try some Mid-80db sensitive Planars.
