Lonnie I were burning a fatty and talking about amplifiers and I had a crazy idea... Let's build a BIGGER amp!!! 600 RMS into 8 ohms sometimes feels inadequate... what if we build an amp with even more power?? Like x 2?? So, the game was on!! We've got a plan for a 1,200 watt into 8 ohms, 2Kw+ into 4 ohms, fully stable into 2 ohms, Differential Reference Power Amplifier that will knock you on your butt's!! I'm thinking $2,500.00 each. I figure the big McIntosh mono block amps retails for 25k a pair, so $5k from Emotiva seems about right. BTW, XPA DR-1sd is the working name. The sd stands for SUPER DUPER!! Any takers??

Call me crazy, but not if it’s built on your current platform, I’d want level meters like the xpa-1 or xpr

Can’t tell if this is real or not 🤔 But if it is real that is interesting to say the least. Of course the big issue would be who actually would need that type of power. The DR-1 at 600 WPC is more than 99.9% of speakers can handle. For the most part anything g more than that is just for bragging rights.

Make it a High Bias design. Something like 60 or more 'A' watts at transition to A/B. Amp will go 100lb + and be a BEAR to move.
I can understand pknaz wanting meters. I'm sure others would like' 'em as well. IMO a useless piece of eye-candy.
Keep adding heat-sink until it is no longer 'hot' but still kicking out the heat. Maybe some kind of active cooling solution included?
You'll have to recommend NO MORE than 2 of these on a single 20 amp circuit.
To keep weight down, you may end up with a switcher. That's OK, i guess, as long as the RF issue is dealt with. You may not be able to get much headroom out of such a design, either, but with that kind of power on tap? Probably won't be missed. With an 'H' type PS and topology, you could make the low voltage rail good to the Maximum 'A' power with a 2nd rail kicking in for the A/B portion. Maybe even end up with a 3-rail system?

Sounds great but myself I'm good with the measly PA 7-350 Also I say DR-1hd not DR-1sd people may misread that as standard definition Lonnie I were burning a fatty and talking about amplifiers and I had a crazy idea... Dan, is it going to need a separately plumbed power supply in the house ? I'd love more powerful monoblocks, but not if I have to connect it up to the 220V clothes-dryer socket :-).

The question is, how heavy will those mothers be.......bad Jason...you don't need more damn amps!!!!! Besides I am only buying one more audio component(speakers don't count) and that will be the RMC-1

Dan, I bought the DR-2 and I don't need that much power, 550 wpb 8 ohms!! I won't personally need any more power. I am still not sure why I even bought it, although It sounded amazing with my very efficient Klipsch La scala II's.
My vote would be for an exceptional Emotiva TT, and a kick-azz music streamer.

We aren't consuming too much alcohol there are we Dan I seem to recall that back in 2013 the reviewers/testers were having problems measuring the XPR-1's power output and they were ONLY 1,000 watts. Trying to imagine what all 5 of my 250/200 watt amplifiers would be like coming at me from just one speaker is frighteningly scary. I have this picture in mind ................. Cheers Gary

It wa a mental “fatty”... not the real thing. Lonnie doesn’’t indulge, at least not in semi-legal smoking!
